[name]Hi[/name], All! So, I’m 17 weeks pregnant and husband and I believe we have a girl (just a hunch, though, as we won’t find out for a few more weeks). We’ve decided on the name [name]Paloma[/name], but we’re still struggling with a middle. My husband and I both have Spanish last names and we plan on giving both to our child, a la [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Garcia[/name] [name]Marquez[/name].
The problem is that it seems too crowded to have a middle name with two last names. Nevertheless, I don’t want to cheat my daughter out of having a pretty middle name. I really love flower names and old fashioned names, but I’m also interested in the potential of honoring a a family member. My mother was called [name]Babette[/name] by her french grandfather growing up, and so I was considering [name]Bette[/name]. I also have an aunt [name]Beatrice[/name] and was thinking of [name]Bea[/name]. The other issue, of course, is that my last name is a three syllable last name that starts with a hard C sound and my husband’s is a two syllable last name that starts with an L. To give you an idea, we’re looking at something like this:
[name]Paloma[/name] Carnales [name]Luna[/name]
For the sake of sound, I was thinking that either a one syllable or two syllable mn would be best. Ideally, I could find something with a hard C that would complement the Carnales. For example:
[name]Paloma[/name] [name]Colette[/name] Carnales [name]Luna[/name]
Or, I could stick with a simple, one syllable mn like [name]Paloma[/name] [name]Bette[/name] Carnales [name]Luna[/name] or [name]Paloma[/name] [name]Bee[/name]/[name]Bea[/name] Carnales [name]Luna[/name]
But, I don’t know how sold I am on [name]Colette[/name] or either of the two one syllable middles I’ve come up with. I just feel really boxed in, like I don’t have many options because of the complexity of our last names. What do you all think? Am I over thinking this? I would love a nice, two syllable old fashioned or flowery name that wouldn’t sick out like a sore thumb. Suggestions? Any input you all might have on the middles I’ve already considered would also be greatly appreciated! Thank you sooo much!
