My taste in names over the last couple years has evolved to a style that is fairly consistent—I like pleasant-sounding, uncommon, yet not unheard of names that have a European sort of traditional vibe to them, yet offer a bit of whimsy.
#1 boys name for us, should we have one, is [name_m]Mattias[/name_m]. It’s a family name and we’re pretty set on it. I would like any girl of ours to have a similarly-styled name.
I love my list, but I also feel like some of them I wouldn’t be able to use in the same sibset, because they’re too rhymey or similar. Can you help add to it so I’ll have more options to dream of for potential sibsets as our TTC date approaches?
Oh, bonus points if you can think of pairings for twins. (They run in the family.)
I love your naming style! [name_m]Mattias[/name_m] is one of my favorite names (in addition to [name_f]Maelys[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]). [name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_f]Violetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Amadea[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizaveta[/name_f]
[name_f]Calais[/name_f]
[name_f]Genoveva[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorena[/name_f]
[name_f]Boheme[/name_f] (Maybe too hipster, but I love it)
Euhh ‘‘European-Inspired’’. Collectively using ‘African’ or ‘[name_f]Asian[/name_f]’ is insensitive to their vast amount of cultures but sure, European is fine.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] and [name_f]Iliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lisette[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
Here are some more of the ‘European’ names you’re after…
[name_f]Tatiana[/name_f]
Annalena
Hrefna
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemonde[/name_f]
[name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
[name_f]Katerina[/name_f]
Katrinka
Siofra
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybella[/name_f]
[name_f]Clodagh[/name_f]
Why would referring to “African” or “[name_f]Asian[/name_f]” names would be insensitive? If it’s an African name, it’s an African name. Maybe it’s specifically a [name_m]Kenyan[/name_m] name, but using the word “African” doesn’t make the term some sort of a slur. Or, if I were looking for [name_f]Asian[/name_f] names, and not just Japanese names, what would be wrong with saying that?
What I mean by “inspired” is that they don’t necessarily have to be of European origin, but are stylistically compatible the ones that obviously are (like the very Germanic “[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f],” for example).
I really like some of your suggestions. Thank you.
I love [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] (see my sig) and was pleased to see [name_f]Hannelore[/name_f] in your list. I’m originally from Germany myself and can maybe contribute some more obscure (but still lovely) romantic [name_m]German[/name_m] names in the spirit of [name_f]Hannelore[/name_f]:
[name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] - pronounced [name_f]ROE[/name_f]-zuh-mar-ree, [name_m]German[/name_m] form of [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], nns. [name_f]Rosi[/name_f], [name_u]Romy[/name_u] Heidemarie - pronounced [name_f]HYE[/name_f]-duh-mar-ree means [name_f]Heather[/name_f]-mary, nn. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Lieselotte[/name_f] - pronounced lee-zuh-[name_m]LOTT[/name_m]-uh traditional compound of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], nns. [name_f]Liesel[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] Elfriede - pronounced el-[name_u]FREE[/name_u]-duh, means friend of elves, nns. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_u]Fritzi[/name_u] Wendeline - pronounced [name_m]VENN[/name_m]-duh-leen, nn. [name_f]Wendy[/name_f]
