Expecting our second baby (a girl) and my current favorite name has the same syllable as my 2 year old son’s name. Wondering if it’s too matchy matchy?
[name_f]My[/name_f] son = [name_u]Bowie[/name_u]
Name we’re considering for baby girl = [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
I’m worried the “ow” will be too similar in both names? I’d also like the have a third baby and if we do would I need to use “ow” again for consistency? Is this something other people would even notice or am I just overthinking it? IN ADDITION, my mom’s name is [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] and my name is [name_f]Marisa[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]. I kind of like the idea of keeping the “M/L” thing going with [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] but I also kind of don’t. I’m so lost! Thank you in advance for any advice/opinions!
As long as you don’t call her [name_m]Lowie[/name_m] for short. I think they’re absolutely fine as siblings! [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is a beautiful honorific name for your mom and you.
first of all - great picks!!! And I think they’re perfect for siblings, definitely not too similar. And personally, I don’t feel like you’d need to follow the “ow” sound for the third sibling. So I think you’re good! And again, love both names!
I agree with the previous posters, I think you’re fine! Any non name-nerd wouldn’t even notice the shared “ow” sound, and I definitely don’t think this would force you to use another “ow” name for a third baby.
If you’re unsure, there’s always the Marlo spelling of the name, or something similar like Marley, but I really do think that Marlowe is perfectly fine!
Oh I love [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] and [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] together!
And for a 3rd you could subtlety tie them all together by using a name with an O or a W or even an E in it, but not necessarily all those letters or in that order. Something like…
[name_u]Bowie[/name_u], [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] and [name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
[name_u]Bowie[/name_u], [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_u]Bowie[/name_u], [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] and [name_u]Esme[/name_u]
[name_u]Bowie[/name_u], [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] and [name_u]Wilder[/name_u]
[name_u]Bowie[/name_u], [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] and [name_u]Forest[/name_u]
[name_u]Bowie[/name_u], [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
Sorry I got a little carried away there! But I definitely think there are plenty of names (even ones without any shared letters) that will go well with the others!
Oh and I also think the ML initial thing is adorable!
i don’t think they’re close! i remember your one post about them being too similar and i said i named two of my cats [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] & [name_u]Harlow[/name_u] (b/g)! i love the shared sounds, i think it ties them together in a way :))
As others have said I dont think theyre too close.
As for the M/L theme I think its a sweet connection but I also think just using [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] itself kind of ties it in since [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] contains both an M and an L and you could use another middle of that is what you preferred.
It’s a great idea to consider 3rd baby options to see if you think the first two are too similar. It could work, but it could make you feel blocked in a little. We ended our first two with T, then transitioned to L and then a B. It was a little strange at first to not have no. 3 end in T but we’re on no. 5 and I’m so glad we deviated!
I don’t think the -ow is obvious enough that a third child would need to continue the theme. It’s not surprising both names have those letters since you love both names! I think they go wonderfully together! But I don’t think the -ow would have to be used for a third sibling. As for the ML initials, I think it’s a special connection and you may be really glad that you included your daughter on this little family tradition!
Not too similar. Cute together! Yes, overthinking . I like the M L but only continue the trend if you want to all 3 names would start with [name_u]Mar[/name_u] anyway so thats a cool link
I don’t think they’re too close. [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] and [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] make great sibling names! I don’t think you’d need to continue the ‘ow’ sound for a third child.
