I am in desperate need of help, for my dear little son has arrived and days pass while he remains unnamed.
We didn’t find out his gender during my pregnancy, and for some reason almost every day someone told us they thought we would be having a girl. [name]Even[/name] without evidence, this sort of sunk into our consciousness, and we focused all our naming interest on narrowing the field of girls’ names.
I had stashed away the name [name]Silas[/name] and assumed if the baby turned out to be a boy, we could just use that. I didn’t, however, do any research on this, and so on his arrival, I started to poke around and realized much to my shock and dismay how very popular [name]Silas[/name] is.
Now I feel stuck without a name, and my husband who is notorious for his disinterest in even things of great import is of no help, however he is quick to pooh-pooh names and indeed the entire discussion. He is fine with [name]Silas[/name], though.
I have a daughter [name]Clara[/name], 20, and a son [name]Gideon[/name], 7, who are the siblings of this new baby boy, and of course, I would like the new baby’s name to fit with these, and that will give you an idea of the sorts of names I like, which it seems are unfortunately gaining much traction right now.
Is [name]Silas[/name] too trendy? I have spent countless hours now poring over naming sites and forums and I am just baffled.
I’m not an expert so I’m not sure how helpful my suggestions will be, but nonetheless here are the names I think sound nice with your children’s names:
congratulations on your new little guy!! I really like [name]Silas[/name], and while it might be getting popular, it doesn’t seem like it will become epidemic. I also think the name has enough history and substance to keep it out of the flash-in-the-pan trendy group.
I agree with this. I’ve never met a little [name]Silas[/name], it can’t be THAT popular. What about [name]Miles[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Luca[/name], [name]Davis[/name], [name]Elias[/name]? Best of luck to you and your new baby!
[name]Silas[/name] does seem to be popular, but it’s still a great name and it fits well with [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name].
If you are looking for something different and not as popular, here are some names that are similar:
[name]Cyrus[/name] (rising in popularity though…)
[name]Jonas[/name]
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Moses[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]
[name]Darius[/name]
[name]Justus[/name]/[name]Justice[/name]
[name]Magnus[/name]
[name]Titus[/name]
Congratulations and Good luck!
P.S. I only know one [name]Silas[/name] under the age of 5
I am not sure where you live, but never as long as I have been around, have I ever met a [name]Silas[/name]! The only [name]Silas[/name] I have ever seen/heard of is on TV.
I think you could easily use it and not worry about him being [name]Silas[/name] #7 at any point in his life!! (Out of 50,000+ babies born in my Province, only 24 boys were [name]Silas[/name], a drop in the ocean!) [name]Silas[/name] sounds great with his siblings names.
Definitely love [name]Silas[/name]! I think it is a name that people are familiar with, but not really popular. It may be increasing, but it is nowhere near [name]Jack[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Owen[/name] etc. [name]Silas[/name] sounds great with [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name]!
I love [name]Silas[/name], and I don’t think it’s trendy at all! I think it’s perfect with [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name]! [name]Clara[/name], [name]Gideon[/name], and [name]Silas[/name] is the perfect sib-set!
[name]Silas[/name] may be Nameberry popular, but that does not translate into real world popularity, and in the mid-100s for boys I wouldn’t even go so far as to call it really trendy. I’ve met and heard of several Claras and a couple Gideons, but no Silases.
I am loathe to suggest other names because I think [name]Silas[/name] goes perfectly with his siblings and is a wonderful name. But here are some ideas just in case you really don’t want to use it:
I haven’t met any little boys named [name]Silas[/name]. If you really love the name, and it fits with your little guy, go for it. Those are the two best criteria for naming, in my opinion.
I’m surprised to learn this name is popular! Not because it’s a bad name – I love this name!! And I think it goes perfectly with [name]Gideon[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] (also great names!). I’m curious why you think it’s popular. Are you thinking it will end up being a trendy name and you’re trying to identify that and avoid using it if it will be? If that’s the case, don’t drive yourself crazy. I did the same thing with our son’s name until I realized there was no way I could anticipate all the trends of the next 5 years or so. If you’re worried it will be the next [name]Aiden[/name], I really don’t think it will. And it won’t be the next [name]Jennifer[/name] either. The key, I’ve been told, is choosing a name you love. If you love the name [name]Silas[/name], you’ll still love it even if it moves up a bit on the charts. Focus on you and your son and what his name should be. You can’t control the rest. Let it go. It’s a great name.
Also, I concur that [name]Silas[/name] is rockin’ and you should just relax and enjoy your well-named boy. What if he was named [name]William[/name] or [name]Alexander[/name]? He’d have a very common and popular name, but would still be the same baby. There is no way that [name]Silas[/name] will ever reach the *aden stratosphere, although the long i sound is going to be pretty big, [name]IMO[/name].
I agree with everyone else keep [name]Silas[/name] it sounds amazing with [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name] and I have never ever heard of a [name]Silas[/name] here in Australia.
I love [name]Silas[/name] and I don’t think it could be that popular since I don’t know anybody with the name! I think you should stick with it, to be honest.
