HELP! Baby is *three weeks old and nameless!* Go with husband's choice?

I actually really like [name_m]Booker[/name_m]. Obviously my first reference is [name_m]Booker[/name_m] T. [name_m]Washington[/name_m], which I think is a very cool association. I also think that [name_u]Bo[/name_u] is a great nickname, and that it fits very, very well with your other kids. And in terms of the potential negative associations of booger and hooker, yes, I am sure that would happen, but I try to remember that that teasing is usually pretty localized in just one small period of life (adolescence) and he will be an adult with a really cool and memorable name for far longer than he will be a teenager with a weird name.

I also think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a really good option. It doesn’t matter that you don’t have a personal connection - your connection is that you love the name!

I would go with [name_m]Booker[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] so that your husband also gets the name he loves. That way if he really hates any one element of his name he can easily switch to another or a nickname.

Throwing out some ideas (maybe starting with a clean slate would be helpful?):

[name_u]Barrett[/name_u] ([name_m]Bear[/name_m] or [name_m]Rhett[/name_m])
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] ([name_m]Wells[/name_m])
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] ([name_u]Kit[/name_u])
[name_m]Malcom[/name_m] ([name_m]Mac[/name_m])
[name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] ([name_m]Thatch[/name_m])
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] ([name_u]Freddie[/name_u], [name_m]Fritz[/name_m])

You’ve both got to be happy about the name!

Whether we use it or not, it warms my heart when people like the name [name_m]Booker[/name_m]. I think the [name_m]Booker[/name_m] T [name_m]Washington[/name_m] association is awesome. And my husband is a university professor, so naming him after the founder of the first black university is an extra appropriate connection for us. I’m surprised at how many Americans haven’t heard of him (we discovered this after choosing the name); I thought he was a pretty standard figure learned in US schools.

Thank you! I’m half afraid to consider any new names this late in the game, and half feel like I have to if I don’t love any.

This list is on point with our taste, because most of these have been on my list at some point.

DH’s father and both grandfathers are named [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], and all the men on my dad’s side (from my brother up to my great-great-grandfather) are named [name_m]Bernard[/name_m]. Both [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] mean bear. Since he doesn’t feel like an [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], and I’m not a fan of [name_m]Bernard[/name_m], I was hoping to find a third name that means bear. [name_u]Barrett[/name_u] is the only usable one I could find, and sadly it sounds horrible with our last name (one syllable ends with a “T”).

In case you all can’t tell - STILL deciding. [name_m]Little[/name_m] guy is 4 weeks on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] and I may just draw out of a hat at this point.
