Help! Baby on Friday, no name as of today

Dh and I are due to have #4 on Friday but don’t have a name picked out yet. We don’t know if we are having a boy or girl. We are taking a list of potential names to the hospital but neither of us are sold on any of the names on our list. So, I am looking for suggestions, here is the challenge…

My husband tends to like classical names ([name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is one of his favs) while I despise them (I have a classical name and always felt it too heavy for my personality). He likes names that are common whereas I prefer names that are not well known and dare I say (gasp) trendy. I really prefer girl names that are unisex which he is fine with as long as they are not too out there.

Our other dc are [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Camden[/name_u], and [name_m]Kason[/name_m]. I didn’t realize until after the names were chosen that they were all 2 syllable N names but now it seems weird to break that trend. We chose these names b/c they are surnames.

Our biggest challenge is an impossible last name. It rhymes with [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]. So anything that ends in a hard e, or has ll’s in it sounds bad.

Here are some names on our list, I would love to have other suggestions…
[name_u]Austyn[/name_u] (I do not like varied spellings but with [name_m]Austin[/name_m] being such a well known boys name, I think we would go with this spelling or [name_u]Austen[/name_u])
[name_m]Emmerson[/name_m]
[name_m]Callahan[/name_m] (love the name but too heavy on l sounds, also the nn would be [name_f]Callie[/name_f] [name_f]Dolly[/name_f])
Embree
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] (don’t like it rhymes with our ln)
[name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] (again, too heavy on l’s and dislike nn [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is so common)

I like [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f].

Suggestions:

[name_m]Sutton[/name_m]
[name_u]Auden[/name_u]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]

[name_u]London[/name_u]
[name_u]Hayden[/name_u]
[name_f]Hadlee[/name_f]
[name_u]Devyn[/name_u]
[name_u]Payton[/name_u]
[name_u]Leighton[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_f]Brilee[/name_f]

[name_u]Austyn[/name_u] - I really hate this spelling, I’m sorry. [name_u]Austen[/name_u], the last name of romance writer [name_f]Jane[/name_f], would be a much more pleasing, feminine choice.
[name_m]Emmerson[/name_m] - Prefer [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] spelling. Not my style, but a viable girls’ name option as the -son endings go.
[name_m]Callahan[/name_m] - All boy.
Embree - Sounds like a tryndy version of [name_u]Emery[/name_u].
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] - Not my favorite, plus it doesn’t go with your last name.
[name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] - Prefer [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].

[name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] is a familiar Welsh name that sounds feminine and classic enough for your husband, maybe, but bright and modern enough for your taste. Fits in line with goodkarma’s suggestion of [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] might also work, though it’s more in your husband’s style.

I think an -er name could do the trick; you like unisex names, and it’d flow really well with an -olly last name. [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_u]Fifer[/name_u], [name_f]Aster[/name_f], [name_f]Emer[/name_f], etc.

Your style isn’t mine but that’s ok. For a girl, I would spell it [name_u]Austen[/name_u] (the y is awful). I guess you wouldn’t mind another name ending in "
n"? Also, maybe a name ending in "er"for something different.

Other Suggestions

[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_u]Adair[/name_u]

[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u]/[name_u]Skylar[/name_u]
[name_m]Quinlan[/name_m]
[name_u]Easton[/name_u]

here are some names that might work:
For a girl:
[name_f]Kimber[/name_f]- no nn but doesn’t end in e or y sound & isn’t as trendy
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]- a great compromise since a nn could be [name_f]Emma[/name_f] since your husband likes classical names
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]- a common name in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] but fairly unknown in the us, also means divinely beautiful
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]- diminutive of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] another compromise option since [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is classical, nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]-
For a boy:
[name_u]Bentley[/name_u]- a version of [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] & a car brand, nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m]
[name_m]Alvin[/name_m]- nn [name_m]Al[/name_m]
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]- modern version of [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] or [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]- shortened version of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped!!!

In keeping with the surname trend:

[name_u]Regan[/name_u] ([name_f]REE[/name_f]-gan or [name_u]RAY[/name_u]-gan)
[name_u]Ellington[/name_u]
[name_u]Jamison[/name_u]
[name_m]Chapin[/name_m]
[name_u]Reeve[/name_u]
[name_u]Riley[/name_u]

Other suggestions of names that end with “n”:

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (pronounced “line” or “leen”)
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] ([name_u]ASH[/name_u]-lyn – this could be a compromise since it’s a classic spelling but it’s a trendy name if spelled differently, plus it’s surnamish)
[name_f]Wren[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Taryn[/name_f]
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u] (TEE-gan)
[name_u]Rain[/name_u]

[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] is my choice
or
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]

Here are the suggestions I came up with keeping with your ending in n and somewhat unisex names trend:

Aniston
[name_u]Ashton[/name_u]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
Aven
[name_u]Brynn[/name_u]
[name_u]Carson[/name_u]
[name_m]Dawson[/name_m]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_u]Fallon[/name_u]
[name_m]Grayson[/name_m]
Halen
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_m]Janson[/name_m]
[name_u]Jensen[/name_u]
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]
[name_u]Laken[/name_u]
[name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_m]Madden[/name_m]
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_f]Taryn[/name_f]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_u]Zion[/name_u]

If I were you I’d probably want to keep on with the 2 syllable “n” name as well. Unless the other 3 are all boys, then I don’t find it odd if the girl has a different sounding name. My two ideas were already listed, [name_u]Auden[/name_u] and [name_u]Linden[/name_u]. Good luck

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Reagan[/name_u]
[name_u]Riley[/name_u]

Some suggestions for you - [name_u]Braylen[/name_u]/[name_f]Braylan[/name_f], [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], [name_f]Ryann[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_m]Caelan[/name_m], [name_u]Peyton[/name_u], Taylon/Taylan, [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], [name_u]Teagan[/name_u], [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_u]Laiken[/name_u] and Liadan. All the best in finding the perfect name for your little one.

I like [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] for a little girl but not so much on a boy. I also like [name_u]Addison[/name_u] and [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]. [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] fits well with your sibset and fulfils your criteria [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Good luck!

[name_f]Addalyn[/name_f] is the only one on your list that I like.

[name_u]Austen[/name_u] is my favorite from your list but I HATE the [name_u]Austyn[/name_u] spelling :frowning: Sorry
