Help Berries! Expecting again and I’m lost:

The names I’ve always loved are now fairly popular. I’m not entirely giving up on them, but just wanting feedback.
( Also even suggestions of similar names ect.)
Style might be described as shorter classics, or nicknames that are now names. [name_f]My[/name_f] first’s name is not popular and I honestly don’t expect it to be.
Older Sibling (now 2yrs) :
[name_u]Scott[/name_u], called [name_u]Scotty[/name_u]

Potential [name_u]Baby[/name_u] girl:
Top names-
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] ( middle name Ann)
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] ( middle name Ann)

[name_f]My[/name_f] less popular choice, but sort of plain [name_f]Jane[/name_f] choice-
[name_u]Jean[/name_u] (middle name [name_u]Louise[/name_u]- maybe nicknamed [name_u]Scout[/name_u] )

I say I don’t mind trending names, but how trending are we talking here???
You all would know better than I. Nameberries tend to have a good feel for just how trendy a name is getting. And is [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] really more popular than [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], that surprises me?!
I really would feel relief to hear some say, “ I hate [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as a name or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is just awful!”
:joy:I mean every name is polarizing to some, right?
[name_m]Genuine[/name_m] feedback appreciated!

I don’t like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] but [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is growing on me. Does that make you feel better? Lol

Hey there!
I really like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (Ann), it sounds super lovely!
I think it would also work well with [name_u]Scott[/name_u].
Personally I’m not a fan of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
Other suggestions that would go well with [name_u]Scott[/name_u] might be:
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Jolie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Zalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Delta[/name_f]
x :hugs:

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is my #1 girl name so I have to vote for that. I just love it.

I don’t think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] are the kind of names that you’ll see a lot of in her cohort. They’re also both timeless which is a real bonus in my books. For example, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] was a really popular name in my cohort ('88) and yet it doesn’t feel dated to me at all. I also know a small number of Eliza’s around my age or older but it feels particularly fresh right now. I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] might be slightly better matched with [name_u]Scott[/name_u], but [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] jazzes up the sibset somewhat. [name_u]Jean[/name_u] I wouldn’t even consider except as a middle, but [name_u]June[/name_u] I would. [name_u]Scout[/name_u] does seem a bit close to [name_u]Scott[/name_u]?

Some suggestions based on your style:

[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Junie[/name_f]
[name_f]Bea[/name_f]
[name_f]Gracie[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]

For a better idea of style, what’s their middle?

I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], but prefer it as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I’m not really a fan of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], although [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] flows better than [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] in my opinion.

I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (and I only know one, I know about 15 Lucy’s)
[name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] would probably get loads of To Kill A Mockingbird questions, in all honestly I can’t imagine a kid called [name_u]Jean[/name_u] though, but I guess it depends how often you’d use her nickname

Congrats :partying_face::partying_face:

I think both names are timeless therefore I wouldn’t worry about that trendy aspect that you seem concerned about as I feel that even if they gain in popularity they wouldn’t be trendy like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] for example. Also both work with [name_u]Scott[/name_u] and the middle name [name_f]Ann[/name_f].

Personally I dislike [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] all I hear is the word loose which just isn’t an attractive word. I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] that’s upbeat sweet and vibrant. I think [name_u]Scott[/name_u] & [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] sound great together.

I adore the spiky, fresh [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] but I also love the strong but sweet and literary [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]!

I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has the slight edge for me

If I’m being honest I don’t really care for the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but it does remind me of that cool Beatles song, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] in the [name_u]Sky[/name_u] with Diamonds. I think I would prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. In my opinion that’s a pretty name. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is refreshing, cool, and spunky. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is really nice.

Well, I’m not much help because I loooovvve [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]! Maybe it’s more popular than [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] where you live? But even [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] accounted for only 0.244% of baby girls born last year. 0.133% were [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. So that’s about 1/500 girls, and 1/1000 girls!
You’re concerned about trendiness, so let’s look at some well-known time-stamped/red-hot names: [name_u]Harper[/name_u] debuted in the top 1000* in 2004 at #887. Last year, she was #10. [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] debuted in the US top 1000 at #891 in 1971, and reached #3 by 1991. [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] entered the top 1000 in 1938 at #997, and by 1948, she was #151. She reached the top 10 in 1966. [name_f]Karen[/name_f] entered the top 1000 in 1906, stayed very quiet for twenty years, but proceeded to climb from #953 in 1926 to #15 in 1946.
*(I say they debuted in the top 1000, but I can’t find a change over time list for the years 1880-1899, so this is from 1900 on.)
Now let’s look at [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] over a twenty-year period: From 2000 to 2020, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] climbed from #306 to #49, and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] climbed from #379 to #115. Not nearly as alarming. I’m not saying [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] won’t be tied to this era; they’ve both seen some years out of the top 500, and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] even slipped out of the top 1000 for a few years in the ‘50s-‘60s and in 1971. But both have hundreds of years worth of usage in the US behind them! And they really are beautiful names! Feminine without too many frills, spunky, smart, they’re awesome!
Onto [name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]. It sounds like you don’t like this name as much. And To Kill a Mockingbird names are also enjoying a moment in the sun right now. [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] are really trending, and even [name_u]Scout[/name_u] entered the top 1000 in 2018 and returned last year. And [name_u]Scotty[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] seem very, very close to me.
Sorry for the essay, but I had a lot of fun with this! I may come back and suggest some names later! Good luck!

I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] for sure. I love several of the longer [name_m]Luc[/name_m]- names (Lucia! Luciana!) but [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] by itself feels a bit too sweet for me, somehow. I would nickname [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Cece[/name_f] and [name_f]Luciana[/name_f] [name_f]Lana[/name_f] or something along those lines because [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] on its own doesn’t really appeal to me.

I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] though, on its own and next to Scott/Scotty. It feels regal yet down to earth and zippy!

[name_u]Jean[/name_u] (at least where I live) would be an outlier for sure - I don’t know anyone under age 70 with this name but it hasn’t come back around yet. I would love to see [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_u]June[/name_u] in its place. I agree with a PP that [name_u]Scout[/name_u] is too close to [name_u]Scott[/name_u] for siblings.

Congrats on your soon-arriving little one!

[name_u]Scott[/name_u] is so fresh and interesting on a little guy; I’d love to see a name like that on your daughter too.

I like both [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], but prefer [name_u]Gene[/name_u] on a boy than [name_u]Jean[/name_u] for a girl, for some reason. [name_m]Just[/name_m] for fun, here are some suggestions for Scotty’s sister:

[name_f]Peggy[/name_f]
[name_f]Sheila[/name_f]
[name_f]Megan[/name_f]
[name_f]Danica[/name_f]
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]

We have similar taste! I have two girls - [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Sue[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (nn Annie) [name_u]Jean[/name_u]. I considered [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as a name as well, but ultimately went with the shorter name that fit our long mouthful of a last name better. Obviously I’m biased but I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]! It was my #1 girls name. She is 3 now and I’ve met a handful of Lucy’s in her age group but nothing crazy. Good luck!

I fell like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] goes with [name_u]Scott[/name_u] pretty nicely! [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] not so much. Both are very pretty names!!!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I think that they’re both great names. But I do like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] more. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is just 100% charming & adorable. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] I can see being a little bit too saucy. Probably not, but if I’m being picky to narrow down! Also, I feel like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is getting popular because of [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m]. And that bugs me when names get popular because of pop culture. :woman_shrugging: But I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] too! I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] more, but [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is less common. And [name_u]Scotty[/name_u] & [name_f]Janie[/name_f]? Super cute. [name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is really fun, but [name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] nn [name_u]Scout[/name_u] is just…I don’t know. She’s a great character, but since the nn doesn’t even make sense, it feels a bit too much like wanting your daughter to be too much like her…like it’s an expectation? I think just [name_u]Jean[/name_u] nn [name_f]Jeanie[/name_f] would be pretty unique & good w/Scotty too. Also, [name_u]Scotty[/name_u] & [name_u]Scout[/name_u] are awfully close for siblings.

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is nice and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Scott[/name_u] sound good as a pairing. Another name that would go well with [name_u]Scott[/name_u] is [name_u]London[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f].
