HELP! Cant decide on a baby girl name!

I have no idea what to name our baby girl. Im of all over the place with names and stressing because we need to pick one soon. I’ve been going back and forth on four baby girl names.
[name_u]Nesta[/name_u]
Mariam/Miriam
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]

I really like [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] but every person I’ve talked to thinks it’s better for a boy. Thoughts? Because of everyone distaste for the name I’ve become slightly iffy/insecure about it.

I also have been thinking about [name_f]Mariam[/name_f] but don’t like the NN Mari/Mary & my husband thinks it’s an old ladies name.

[name_f]Farrah[/name_f] I adore but a lot of my family members aren’t big fans. [name_f]My[/name_f] mother suggested [name_f]Freya[/name_f] instead but my husband and I both prefer [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] to it.

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] I have loved since I was 10 years old. For some reason I absolutely adore it for a little girl but don’t really like it as a boy name. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband thinks the opposite and has vetoed it but I’m still trying to persuade him haha. I’ve tried looking for similar names but my hearts been set on [name_u]Jude[/name_u] for years and can’t find any alternatives that I love just as much. I don’t like the names [name_f]Judith[/name_f] or [name_f]Judy[/name_f] with the NN [name_u]Jude[/name_u] either.

Out of those four which is your favorite? And do you have any other suggestions/Similar sounding names?

As for middle names were also very stumped on those too.
I really like
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariam[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariam[/name_f] [name_u]Noor[/name_u]
[name_u]Nesta[/name_u] [name_u]Noor[/name_u]
[name_u]Nesta[/name_u] [name_f]Neve[/name_f]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]

I love Jude for a little girl! I feel like you’ll regret not using it if it’s been your favourite name for so long.

I think [name_f]Mariam[/name_f] [name_u]Noor[/name_u] is especially pretty. I guess I’d offer [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] or [name_f]Maia[/name_f] as nicknames. [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] [name_f]Neve[/name_f] is quite pretty too. I suppose for [name_u]Jude[/name_u] I think it could work as is. Otherwise maybe Judea as an alternative

i like jude for you, but since your husband vetoed it, there isn’t much you can do. maybe you could use it as a middle and call the kid jude, while your husband calls them by their first name?

your family members’ opinions shouldn’t really matter on your kid’s name. if you and your husband both like and want to use farrah, you should

nesta is nice, and it doesn’t feel too masculine to me; it’s a varation of agnes after all, which is a feminine name

you could spell mariam as miriam to avoid the nns mary and mari. but if your husband doesn’t like it, i’d drop it

so of your names, i think farrah and nesta are you best options. i like nesta neve (pronounced neh-vay, i assume?) and farrah elise !

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is my favorite.

I think Nesta leans feminine sound-wise. I can relate to doubt being thrown on a name choice by the iffy reactions from family members. No one except me and my partner at the time liked the name we chose for my son, Beck, but nearly 20 years later, he likes his name and I’m glad I went with it. It gets lots of Berry love here, sometimes you just have to find your people!

I’m encouraging you to go with the names you and your husband like best and to consider how you’ll feel if other people don’t love the name you chose, or if you don’t love the name? I feel for you with your husband not liking your ultimate favourite, Jude. How would he feel about it as a middle. Farrah Jude and Nesta Jude both sound amazing to me, as do Farrah Elise, Nesta Noor and Nesta Neve. My favourites of these are Nesta Neve and Farrah Elise.

[name_f]Farrah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] gets my vote

In my opinion Farrah is a strong contender! I know it’s difficult to ignore your wider family’s thoughts but I honestly would try not to listen to them too much. At the end of the day, your and your husband’s opinions should be top priority here - no matter which name you pick, I’m sure someone in your family will have a negative opinion or prefer a different name, and you just can’t accommodate everyone.

I love @EdgeOfTheMeadow’s Farrah Jude suggestion - could be a lovely way to combine your favourites. :slightly_smiling_face:

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] and you could always use the nicknames [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] and [name_f]Mira[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

As a first name [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] I think was my favorite but was going to say for you Id choose [name_f]Farrah[/name_f]. But once I saw your combos [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] seated me yo see that as the clear choice. Such an amazing pairing.

At this point if you are down to the wire and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] has been vetoed by husband then I would just eliminate that as a choice. [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] I am not a fan of at all. It just makes me think of nestle chocolate.

[name_f]Farrah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is beautiful :heart_eyes: So cheerful and lovely!!

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Mariam[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are pretty too! [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] for a girl

A couple of similar names:

[name_f]Leila[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_u]Rue[/name_u]

[name_f]Nadira[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Esta[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Priya[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Leni[/name_f]
[name_f]Mira[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elin[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Mariam[/name_f] [name_u]Noor[/name_u] or [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. I also like the idea of [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as a middle, that would be great. I’ll suggest [name_f]Mayim[/name_f], as maybe you’d prefer the nn [name_f]May[/name_f] / [name_f]Mae[/name_f] to [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (or wouldn’t need a nn at all)?

I’ll also suggest [name_f]Samira[/name_f], a name I love

What about [name_f]Neve[/name_f] as a FN?

Honestly naming is sooooo hard and your head seems just as scrambled as mine did when I was naming my daughter! You will eventually find the perfect name but what I would do moving forward is keep your naming thoughts/suggestions/options to yourself & your partner so you don’t end being overwhelmed by others.

I found nameberry so helpful when it came to finding the perfect name it’s particularly helpful as everyone is super open minded. Anyways don’t worry you’ll eventually find the right name!

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts…
[name_u]Nesta[/name_u] ~ isn’t a personal favourite of mine I see the appeal she has a long Welsh history and is a quirky variation of [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] but I prefer [name_f]Agnes[/name_f].

Mariam/Miriam ~ I love this one! [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] from the two she’s a biblical classic that feels strong & delicate all at the same time. The overall vibe of [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is beautiful. Have you thought of [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] is sweet nickname. Also you could always modernise [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] with using a unisex middle name like [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] if [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is completely vetoed maybe [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] or [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_u]River[/name_u]?

[name_f]Farrah[/name_f] ~ lovely Arabic name that looks elegant and intriguing. The meaning of [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] being happiness is also awesome. If you prefer [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] stick with [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] she’s your baby and your mum will get used to the name. This to me is a strong contender as your both super positive about the name :purple_heart:

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] ~ it’s soooo annoying when your favourite is vetoed!!! I think if he’s proper vetoed [name_u]Jude[/name_u] then I would move on I was in a similar predicament and just moved on it sucks but means that you can allow yourself to fully think of alternatives and find the one. I would try and use [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as a middle name if your not using honour names though!

From your list of combinations my favourite is [name_f]Mariam[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] such a gorgeous name! I also like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f].

You’ve had a few suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Marisol[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Amara[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Fawn[/name_f]
[name_u]Jules[/name_u]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u]

Good luck

Out of your four choices, taking your concerns into account, I would choose [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] for you. Because it doesn’t sound like you or your husband have any reserves about [name_f]Farrah[/name_f], just family members. I would really try to get past, or ignore those opinions! [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of my and my SO’s family members have used names that I don’t love. When you meet the child, they make the name into something everyone loves! I would echo [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. Such a stunning name.

[name_f]My[/name_f] other favourite option is [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. So sad your husband is vetoing it. I do wonder if you/he would consider [name_u]Judah[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u]? I know [name_u]Judah[/name_u] is also considering a masculine name, but it does have the -ah ending like [name_f]Farrah[/name_f].

i think based on your husband’s views [name_f]Mariam[/name_f] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] are unfortunately out, which leaves you with [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] or [name_f]Farrah[/name_f]. personally i prefer [name_u]Nesta[/name_u], but my favourite combo is [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f].

[name_f]Farrah[/name_f] is a great name, and [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is simply beautiful. Your family might not be fans of the name now but it could grow on them after your little girl is born. I also love the meaning. Maybe you could do [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]?

LOVE Miriam!!!

I wouldn’t have ever thought Nesta for a boy, and I can totally picture it on a little girl! Don’t worry about what anyone else likes. If you and your husband love it, go for it!

Mariam is pretty, though I much prefer Miriam! It feels a bit more fresh, and the nickname Miri is lovely!

Farrah is so sweet! I immediately think of Farrah Fawcett, a lovely woman! Again, don’t worry about what other people think. A person makes the name, not the other way around!

Jude is okay, and if you love it, keep working on your husband!

Out of your combos, I think Mariam Eleanor is my favorite!!!

I love, love [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] for you. [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] [name_u]Noor[/name_u], [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] [name_f]Mariam[/name_f], and [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] are so pretty. Maybe you would like [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_u]Nesta[/name_u] [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]?
