Help choosing a second daughter's name?

[name]Hi[/name] berries! I’m a long time lurker, first time poster. In need of your advice, please!

We are expecting our second child, a second girl, in [name]January[/name]. We had a heck of a time naming the first as we have very different naming styles. DD1 is named [name]Marlo[/name] [name]Agnes[/name]. No flow (I love names, so that still kind of bugs me), but it is what it had to be. [name]Agnes[/name] is a cherished family name, and [name]Marlo[/name] - well, long story  Suffice to say that after tussling over the name list for months, when she finally arrived it was clearly what she was meant to be called.

So now we have to try to find another girl name we agree on…that also goes with [name]Marlo[/name]. Neither of us like frilly, romantic names (though for some reason I’m partial to both [name]Tallulah[/name] and [name]Emmylou[/name]). [name]Nor[/name] do we like made-up or creatively spelled names. There the similarity ends. He likes short, nick-name sounding names. I don’t like names like that, but would be ok with a nickname that came with a proper name. He doesn’t like unusual…I like unusual (I’m a [name]Sara[/name], bo-ring). I don’t like boy names on girls, and am so-so on unisex names. Given that we also don’t like overly girly names, that doesn’t leave a lot! Also, we have no family name for a middle this time around.

The only name we both like at the moment is [name]Hadley[/name], but I’m afraid of that name becoming super popular. Other names I like, but don’t love: [name]Tamsin[/name], [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Naomi[/name]. Nothing seems to fit with [name]Marlo[/name] either

This is getting long so I’ll stop there - any suggestions for a sister to [name]Marlo[/name]? Fabulous middle names??

Thanks for your help!!

[name]Tallulah[/name] & [name]Emmylou[/name] are adooorable! love em! I think they go with [name]Marlo[/name] [name]Agnes[/name], too.

[name]Tallulah[/name] [name]Molly[/name]
[name]Emmylou[/name] [name]Jane[/name]

gonna throw a few more out there…

[name]Coral[/name] [name]Theresa[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Helena[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Orla[/name] [name]Florence[/name]
[name]Golda[/name] [name]Joan[/name]

Any strike you?

[name]Marlow[/name] is currently our top choice if this baby, due any day now, is a girl. Her big sis is [name]Charlie[/name]. Not [name]Charlotte[/name], just [name]Charlie[/name].
I personally think they make for a nice sibset.

Out of curiosity, does your [name]Marlo[/name] get called anything as a nn or short name? I cant think of what a [name]Marlow[/name] might get called.

I like [name]Naomi[/name] and [name]Hadley[/name] is fine if you both like it :). Good luck!

[name]Emme[/name] [name]Louise[/name] ([name]Emmylou[/name]!)
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Norah[/name]
[name]Ireland[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]

Hmmm, [name]Hadley[/name] is cute. It has risen 743 spots in 10 years (178 in 2011), so becoming popular would be an understatement. [name]Marlo[/name] and [name]Hadley[/name] are adorable together, though.

Some ideas:
[name]Rowan[/name] [name]Athena[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] [name]Amaya[/name]
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Adele[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Iris[/name]
[name]Briar[/name] [name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Junia[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Bianca[/name] [name]Irene[/name]
[name]Nadia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

I love [name]Hadley[/name] and [name]Naomi[/name] with [name]Marlo[/name]. I think either would be adorable. I also love the suggestions of [name]Esme[/name], [name]Norah[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], and [name]Audrey[/name].

I love [name]Hadley[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name] or [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Juniper[/name]. I can also see [name]Hadley[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] or [name]Hadley[/name] [name]Wren[/name] working. I like [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Willow[/name].
[name]Hadley[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name] could be adorable. Or perhaps [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] with [name]Maggie[/name] as a nickname? [name]Marlo[/name] and [name]Maggie[/name]?

The other ideas that come to mind are-
[name]Edith[/name] ([name]Marlo[/name] and [name]Edie[/name] sound adorable together)
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]June[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Tillie[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Gwen[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]

I really like [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] as a combo, personally.

I think [name]Naomi[/name] and [name]Marlo[/name] are PERFECT. They sound very balanced and have a similar stlye to me, plus they look pretty together, not that that matters, but still  I love the suggestion of [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Clair[/name] but I’ll add a few more.

[name]How[/name] about:
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Adele[/name] — like this one a lot!
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Edith[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Piper[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Dove[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Adair[/name] — another favorite!

Out of interest; if you don’t like boys names on girls and you don’t like made up names or odd spellings… how did you end up with [name]Marlo[/name]? To me that’s a masculine, creatively spelled, technically made up (since it’s traditionally a surname) name. No offence intended, just interested to hear the reasoning behind it.

Wow you guys are on it! I’m amazed at how many of our previously considered names you’ve hit on - [name]Esme[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Orla[/name], [name]Helena[/name] and a few others. All were on our list for [name]Marlo[/name]. I’d thought we should leave that list behind and start over, since we couldn’t agree on any of the names on it…but maybe we need to consider some of these more carefully.

Also loving the new suggestions, and looking for a second surfer chick name is brilliant! As is [name]Emme[/name] [name]Louise[/name]…I’d never have thought of looking for a name to make [name]Emmylou[/name] the NN. I’m going to think more on this, as the informality of [name]Emmylou[/name] is what makes me doubt using it.

[name]Naomi[/name] is out, unfortunately, though I love it. Bad name association for DH.

Thanks everyone

Katinto: she goes by [name]Marlo[/name], but I’d thought we might call her [name]Lola[/name] for a nn.

Renrose: correct on all counts, lol. I can’t really explain it - it’s a name that I heard early on in our name search and just loved the sound of, especially the ‘o’ sound on the end. It bugged me that it was a made-up name, with no real meaning of it’s own. But I still loved it. I wanted to spell it [name]Marlowe[/name], which is a ‘real’ name, but DH insisted on [name]Marlo[/name]. And since it was my name choice and we’d had such a difficult time agreeing, we went with his spelling. Our other top option for her was [name]Esme[/name].

I like uncommon names with long vowels to pair with [name]Marlo[/name]:

[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Iona[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Shea[/name]
[name]Paola[/name]
[name]Nola[/name]
Solvay (variant of [name]Solveig[/name], an old Viking name meaning ‘power of the sun’)
[name]Thora[/name]
[name]Portia[/name]
