I would love your lady’s thoughts…
My husband and I can’t wait for our first little boy but are having a tough time with his name. We both love, love [name]Lucas[/name] (for sure calling him [name]Luke[/name]) but can not decide if it sounds silly with our last name. So here it is …
[name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name]

I think ridiculous is too strong a word, but [name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name] really is too much “[name]Lu[/name]” for my tastes. In other words, it’s not the worst fn-ln combination ever, but I would keep looking.
Oh man I was having similar issues with [name]Lucas[/name]! My last name is [name]Long[/name], so he would be [name]Lucas[/name] [name]Long[/name] and I ultimately decided against it. [name]Lucas[/name]/[name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name] is even more of a mouthful I’m afraid. I think it’s doable and there are definitely worse sounding names out there but it’s a stretch. [name]One[/name] good thing though, people will remember him! Good luck, L last names are hard to work with.
It’s really close to [name]Lex[/name] [name]Luthor[/name] in Superman. You could do [name]Lucian[/name] [name]Luther[/name] but I still think that is a little too much -lu. [name]Marcus[/name] is close and I think would sound much better with your last name.
I thought about [name]Marcus[/name], nn [name]Marc[/name]/[name]Mark[/name] too. They’re very similar to [name]Lucas[/name] and [name]Luke[/name], but they’re less common and wouldn’t cause any problems with the last name [name]Luther[/name].
It it very heavy on the “lu” but it’ll help if you give him a long middle name with no prominent and big L and U sounds. Here are some suggestions:

[name]Lucas[/name] [name]Gregory[/name] [name]Luther[/name]

I think if you really love [name]Lucas[/name] that much, go for it. On first glance it does look like a little too much “[name]Lu[/name]” but it doesn’t sound like it at all (to me). I think it sounds just fine and the middle name [name]Jordan[/name] goes well with both.
I think [name]Lucas[/name] [name]Luther[/name] is doable. I like the suggestion of [name]Marcus[/name]…but then again [name]Marcus[/name] [name]Luther[/name] sounds a lot like [name]Martin[/name] [name]Luther[/name]…
I agree. I’ve also heard of [name]Luke[/name] as a nn for [name]Luther[/name] so it’s definitely too close for me. What about something like [name]Jonas[/name] [name]Luther[/name] or [name]Silas[/name] [name]Luther[/name]?
