Wow [name_m]Eliyah[/name_m] Khai and [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] are such beautiful names! I do like [name_f]Samara[/name_f] better to be honest and I think (depending on where you live of course) Sulamay may have some pronunciation issues. I like the nn [name_f]Mara[/name_f] but I think you could also use [name_f]Sula[/name_f] as a nn by itself. I know many people who have nn’s with nothing to do with their actual name…I saw a movie recently where the older sister [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] kept the nn Beezus which was what her younger sister called her when she couldn’t say her name. [name_f]Samara[/name_f] isn’t too far off from [name_f]Sula[/name_f] and I agree [name_f]Sula[/name_f] is pretty adorable…why not? I like it.
Congratulations!
I originally voted for [name_f]Samara[/name_f], but after the background, I change my vote to Sulamay! It’s gorgeous and sounds so calming
Plus [name_f]Sula[/name_f] is a lovely nickname
I prefer [name_f]Samara[/name_f] for its exotic appeal and special meaning. Sulamay reminds me of the name [name_f]Salome[/name_f] so I’m not crazy about the spelling. Peaceful babies can change as they grow up! I know I certainly did.
I love the meaning of [name_f]Samara[/name_f] and I think it is fitting for this baby based on your story.
I see now that I am in the minority having voted for Sulamay. It jumped out to me immediately and seems more meaningful and direct as opposed to [name_f]Samara[/name_f]. I feel like [name_f]Samara[/name_f] would get lost in today’s world of girly, unique names. Also, [name_f]Sula[/name_f] is the most adorable nn I have ever heard. [name_u]Love[/name_u] love loveeee it!!!
I quite like Sulamay, it has a better sound than [name_f]Samara[/name_f] to me… Sulamay sounds so serene and unique. I love the name Sulamay.
I love the sound of Sulamay, though prefer it as a double first name: [name_f]Sula[/name_f]-[name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Sula[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]. That’s a personal preference though so ignore as you like.
Congrats!
Hmmm… I would consider naming her [name_f]Salome[/name_f] if not for the biblical baggage. Not for the dance of the seven veils but for [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_f]Salome[/name_f] who was a [name_m]Saint[/name_m]. One of the amazing aspects of this birth is that a midwife saved our lives. We have have a friend who is a midwife who came to check on us in early labor and heard a high fetal heart rate we would have never known about. The fact that she had us rush to the hospital got the baby out just in time. So I like the idea of recognizing her… Also my mother is [name_f]Susan[/name_f]… So I especially like baby being “[name_f]Sula[/name_f]”. I admit that most of the attraction to Sulamay is being about to use “[name_f]Sula[/name_f]” as a NN which I like more than “[name_u]Sammy[/name_u]”. I agree that the spelling for Sulamay looks unfamiliar and kind of hard to grab. [name_f]Samara[/name_f], is more “clear”. I thought about “Sulamae” or I really like “[name_f]Saloma[/name_f]” but could not sell anybody on that. Are there any versions of a [name_f]Salome[/name_f] name that you like?
[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the feedback.
Very appreciated!
Thanks! I thought about spelling SulaMae… is that even more strange? I am really attached to keeping [name_f]Mozelle[/name_f] (“from the waters”)so it can’t just be [name_f]Sula[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] Berkowitz. (part of the story is that I just knew that this baby would come when the rain finally came to the Northern [name_u]California[/name_u] draught- she did and it has not stopped raining since her birth !) She is an aquarius who was so happy in my belly every time I went swimming.
Are there any other spellings you suggest as being very pleasing?
Somehow I hit the wrong one, correct for one more vote for Sulamay. I like [name_f]Samara[/name_f] too, nn [name_f]Mara[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Sula[/name_f] is very pretty and unique, and sounds more meaningful to you.
I agree with another poster who said [name_f]Sula[/name_f] could definitely be a nickname for [name_f]Samara[/name_f]. I think it totally works!
