Help! Due in 2 weeks and can't decide between 2...

So I am expecting girl #2 on the 29th and my husband and I just can’t decide between 2 names. They are:

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Josie[/name])
[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Tillie[/name])

[name]Every[/name] time we think we have settled on one we change our minds the next day. I was hoping to have the name picked out before her birth but at this rate I am not too optimistic.

Our 3 year-old daughter is named [name]Amelia[/name] so we have been trying to come up with a name that not only do we love but also goes well with [name]Amelia[/name].

I would love to hear any and all opinions!

My gut instinct is that [name]Amelia[/name] goes better with [name]Matilda[/name], though I am slightly put off my the fact that they both end in an “a.” Joesphine, while a lovely name, seems more stiff to me. If you don’t mind the double repeated “a” I would go for [name]Matilda[/name].

I prefer [name]Josephine[/name] just because I love that name and I don’t like the name [name]Matilda[/name]. I do think [name]Josephine[/name] goes better with [name]Amelia[/name], though.

I think you should just wait until she’s born and see which one seems to suit her best! But on name alone I’d go with [name]Josephine[/name]. I’m seeing [name]Matilda[/name] on a lot of people’s final choice lists, and I think it could get really popular. [name]Josephine[/name] is an underused timeless classic and I’d love to meet one. I also prefer [name]Josie[/name] to [name]Tillie[/name]. But really you have two great choices there.

Thanks for the input. I myself have been trying to figure out how popular [name]Matilda[/name] is exactly. I do see it popping up on nameberry somewhat frequently, definitely more frequently than [name]Josephine[/name], but are people actually ultimately using it? In 2010 it was in the top 1000 but somewhere in the 800’s I think? I think that [name]Josephine[/name] was actually somewhere around 180 or so.

[name]Just[/name] wondering!

The one name your using that I adore is [name]Elizabeth[/name], which seems to be the only one you and dad seem to like equally, and have so many endearments to ogo with it. That said. I think you should look at the baby and see if she looks like a [name]Josephine[/name] or a [name]Matilda[/name]. Maybe youll have her, look into her eyes and she will say “Hey Im [name]Mattie[/name] nice to meet you”… you have two possible definites, I would suggest waiting till she is born and seeing what she looks like. My little sister was supposed to be [name]Erin[/name] and ended up [name]Megan[/name], and another sister supposing to be an [name]Angela[/name] ended up being a [name]Kimberly[/name]

[name]Just[/name] my personal opinion here… I really don’t care for the name [name]Matilda[/name]; it just doesn’t have a pretty sound to my ears - but that’s just me. While Josiphine isn’t exactly my style either, I really do love the nn [name]Josie[/name]! So, my vote goes to [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] - [name]Josie[/name]!

If [name]Amelia[/name] grows up and wants you to call her [name]Millie[/name], you would have a [name]Millie[/name] and [name]Tillie[/name] sibset!! I think [name]Josephine[/name] just for that reason

I love [name]Josephine[/name]! It is in my top three for a girl. [name]Matilda[/name] is nice, but I personally feel that [name]Josephine[/name] is beautiful, so it gets my vote. [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Has a very nice sound to it as well!

I love them both! I think I like [name]Josephine[/name] a little more just because it wouldn’t have the repeating “m” sound that [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] have.

One of my friends named her baby [name]Matilda[/name] last year. I think it’s definitely getting a lot of use. One of my other friends named her baby [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], though, so those are popular as well AND I think go together quite nicely!

I think [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] are a better sibset, but either name is pretty.

I love both names [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] but I think [name]Josephine[/name] would be better paired with [name]Amelia[/name]. [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] both have prominent “m” sound in their names and the same “a” endings. [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] are a distinct but complimentary pair. Good luck, [name]Mischa[/name].

[name]Josephine[/name] for me, [name]Matilda[/name] is popping up everywhere. And more scope for nns if you want. My fave is [name]Posey[/name].

I vote for [name]Josephine[/name]. Personally i’d choose nn [name]Posy[/name] but [name]Josie[/name] is nice too.

I actually vote for [name]Matilda[/name] - I know she has repeating “m” and “a” sounds like [name]Amelia[/name] does, but I think [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] make such a cute sibset!

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I do love both names, and it is so hard to choose!

I am a little worried looking at the message boards because it seems like [name]Josephine[/name]/[name]Josie[/name] keep getting mentioned in people’s posts. I hope that we don’t go with that name and then all of a sudden it is everywhere! [name]Posey[/name] is a cute nickname for [name]Josephine[/name], but I think that if we don’t end up using [name]Josie[/name] as a nn my husband will insist on using [name]Effie[/name], which he loves.

My mom wants us to use [name]Matilda[/name] because she is in love with the nickname [name]Tilly[/name]/[name]Tillie[/name]. I am not too worried about my daughter [name]Amelia[/name] deciding to go by the nickname [name]Millie[/name] because she seems to love love love her name as it is!

I guess I am in the minority because I am firmly in camp [name]Matilda[/name]. I agree with the poster who said that [name]Josephine[/name] sounds stiff. I think of an old woman with a over-starched collar rather than a little girl. I am actually swayed by your thought of [name]Posey[/name] as a nn rather than [name]Josie[/name]. [name]Josie[/name] makes me think of that movie [name]Josie[/name] and the Pussycats that was not exactly an Academy Award winner. Posey is a cute, underused flower name, which is always good in my book.

I agree that [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] sound similar, but I think that they just GO together. Plus, the vowels are different. I prn it uh-MEAL-ya and muh-[name]TILL[/name]-duh, so the main vowels balance it for me.

Maybe this is just my bias because I don’t care for [name]Josephine[/name]. I should like it in theory as a traditional, formal name, but for some reason it just sounds stuffy and inaccessible to me.

I think it depends what “feel” you are going for. [name]Amelia[/name] and Matiilda is vintage/chic where [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] is classic. Let us know what you pick!

I much prefer [name]Matilda[/name] over [name]Josephine[/name], and I also think that [name]Matilda[/name] fits beautifully with [name]Amelia[/name]. The nickname [name]Tillie[/name] is also much cooler than [name]Josie[/name]!

Okay, so to update this, we are also now considering the name [name]Althea[/name], with the nickname of [name]Thea[/name]. My husband has loved the name [name]Thea[/name] since the very beginning but I have been adamant that we choose a longer name and shorten it to [name]Thea[/name]. Of the possibilities, [name]Althea[/name]-[name]Theodora[/name]-[name]Dorothea[/name], [name]Althea[/name] was always my favorite but I have been trying to stay away from A names since we already have an [name]Amelia[/name]. But I am just not in love with [name]Theodora[/name] or [name]Dorothea[/name]. We are also still considering [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] but just can not commit to either one for some reason. I also keep on seeing [name]Josephine[/name] on the message boards so that worries me that it is becoming too popular.

So:

[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Tilly[/name])
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Josie[/name])
[name]Althea[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Thea[/name])

Please share your opinion with me because I am now due in less than 2 weeks and it seems like daughter #2 is never going to get a name!
