Ok, so we’ve already had a baby, a sibling to Leon and Scarlett, it’s been 3 weeks and we’ve named him Oliver (yet to register him officially). But here’s the problem - I don’t love Oliver on him. Originally, we wanted something that is two syllables, maybe ends with “n”. Our options were Aron, Damon, Evan, Kian, Kieran, Louis, etc. but we went with Oliver partly due to it having “l” in the name and partly because of pressure from our mothers. So now I’m plagued with doubts. Any thoughts on a name that might fit better with the sibset? Please? Before we finalize this and make him officially Oliver?
Is it possible to take more time to think about this?
That’s what I would do personally. If it’s legally possible, there’s no rush to put a name on the birth certificate.
It seems you are conflicted and confused, something not unexpected during an intense time like right after having a new baby! I would advise you to take your time and really think about which name feels right for your family.
I don’t think you should stress about patterns. Whether the name has “l” in it, or whether it’s two syllables. Those patterns in a sibling set probably won’t even be noticeable to other people. Just focus on finding the one name you love the most.
I’d also advise you to work on this with your partner only, to avoid others’ opinions pressuring you towards an option that might not be right for you.
Thanks! Unfortunately, it’s very difficult not to take parents’ opinion into account as they are super adamant about their points of view.
I can definitely relate. Fortunately my mom is amazing and doesn’t push her own beliefs onto me at all, but my mother in law definitely does. It’s really hard to stand your ground, but you have to remember that it’s YOUR baby, not theirs. They already had their time raising their own children, now it’s your turn. If they love you then they will understand you wanting to do what’s right for you and your family.
It’s hard to stand up to pushy opinionated parents when you don’t like conflict isnt it? I usually would advise leaving the name be and seeing if it grows on you but it’s sounds like you REALLY don’t like [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] on your son so I think you definitely need to change it. And because it’s his first name change it soon before everyone else becomes too entrenched in calling him [name_u]Oliver[/name_u]. Discuss it with your partner and give yourself a timeline of say a week to choose something else you love and then if nothing is standing out to you I’d shelve the idea and revisit it later.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the name [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] in itself? [name_f]Believe[/name_f] me when I say that a name makes a person, a person doesn’t make a name.
I think it may be leftover hormones from pregnancy TBH. I’d wait a little bit to register him
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.
This is tricky. [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] is a darling name & it’s super cute w/Scarlett & [name_m]Leon[/name_m]. But if you don’t love it, then don’t register it. It’s quite popular anyway (for a good reason.) Maybe if you tell your parents that you’d like something more unique so that he’s not one of three Olivers in his class at school. [name_f]Do[/name_f] any of the names from your original list seem to fit the little guy? I like [name_m]Aron[/name_m] (or Aaron) & [name_m]Louis[/name_m] a lot w/Leon & [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].

That’s such a tough situation. Definitely name him what you and your SO want to name him - don’t worry about other’s opinions. If you two don’t like [name_u]Oliver[/name_u], change it. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_m]Leon[/name_m] feel like old soul names so here are some suggestions:
[name_u]Nelson[/name_u]
[name_m]Dalton[/name_m]
[name_m]Cullen[/name_m]
Pierce/Pearce/Piers
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u]
[name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] (Gabe or Abe)
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_u]Jasper[/name_u]
Since you’re yet to register him and you’re not loving [name_u]Oliver[/name_u], I’d go with something else.
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] from your list fits well
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and…
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Jasper[/name_u]
What about making [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] his middle name? He could be [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] or something like that. Then you and your spouse’s mother’s are pleased (hopefully) but you don’t have to give him a name you don’t like
So 2 syllables and contains a L
[name_u]Daniel[/name_u]
[name_m]Micheal[/name_m]
[name_u]William[/name_u]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Colton[/name_m]

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_m]Waylon[/name_m]
[name_u]Tyler[/name_u]
[name_u]Bentley[/name_u]
Sorry but grandmas don’t get to name babies. They got to name their kids. Now it’s your turn. What name do you and your husband love and what fits him best?
[name_m]Lucien[/name_m]
[name_m]Tannen[/name_m]
[name_u]Grayson[/name_u]
[name_m]Gavin[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Bowen[/name_m]

[name_u]Walker[/name_u]
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]
[name_m]Kevin[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]
And don’t consult the mothers again if you change it! Tell them after the fact and they will live with it! And come to love it. It’s YOUR baby go with your heart and your gut, it’s not too late to change it!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! [name_f]My[/name_f] advice is that if you aren’t convinced with [name_u]Oliver[/name_u], then change it, before you regret it. I see this forum was like a week ago so I would love to know what you decided to do!
Anyway, here are some suggestions:
[name_m]Clement[/name_m] (goes amazing with both [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], i love it; definitely my fav)
[name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] (love love this name and I think it goes really well with [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and specially with Scarlett)
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] (can never go wrong with a name this beautiful, and I think it goes great with [name_m]Leon[/name_m]. Plus, it ends with n)
[name_u]Florian[/name_u] (okay this is my fav name ever and I think it goes amazing with your kids’ names but I don’t know if it’s really your cup of tea. It ends with n tho)
Could put more but I really really love [name_m]Clement[/name_m] for you kid!
And from your list I love [name_m]Damon[/name_m] and [name_u]Kieran[/name_u], they go really well with both [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
Good luck!
If you haven’t made a decision yet, have you thought about [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]? It feels more similar in style to [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], but has in common with [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] the “O” (of course), the “l,” and the number of syllables. It was the name that popped into my head when I read your post, so I thought I’d share. However, I’m with other contributors 100% - you should absolutely choose the name you and your husband love for your son!
