Help! Husband and I can't agree on anything! Need suggestions!

I’m currently pregnant with our third child, a girl.

We have 10yo [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (goes by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]) and 8yo [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] (goes by [name_m]Liam[/name_m]).

We are having the hardest time agreeing on a name this time around haha! The rare names we have at least somewhat agreed on, we can’t use because of sounding too similar to siblings/cousins names. Example: we both like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] sounds too similar to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. I tend to like a lot of nature-inspired names that my husband thinks are too hippie or weird, and he tends to like more traditional names that are too generic for me.

A name we’ve considered is [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I like the idea of having a full name [name_f]Lucette[/name_f], my husband thinks it sounds pretentious. He would prefer just [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], I’m on the fence about [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] not being short for anything. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is definitely on the table but neither of us feel like “yes! that’s the one!” I love the musical connections, and I think it’s a sweet name, I’m just not sold yet. Without meeting the baby yet, I just feel like she needs a nature-inspired name, almost as if I feel like I’m naming a woodland fairy haha! But we just can’t agree.

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is a name we’d probably be set on if it weren’t for sounding so much like her sister’s name. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is definitely different for a girl, but it’s a family name and I love it for a middle name and my husband actually agrees!

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is on the table.

[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] (a play on the classical Für [name_f]Elise[/name_f] by Beethoven) is one I love but as my husband told me last night, it “still hasn’t grown on him” ha!

[name_f]Posey[/name_f] is a favorite of mine, as is [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. Husband isn’t a fan of either.

[name_f]Willa[/name_f] is one, like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], that we agree on but can’t use.

I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for names that cross the nature/whimsical and traditional divide?

p.s. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is a name on my mom’s side and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is one in the “traditional” camp that I’ve been considering.

I love [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]! [name_f]Viv[/name_f], V, and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] are such cute nicknames too!

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is a great name, very cute and girly. What about [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]? Could spell [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] this way like [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball’s daughter.

[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] nn [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]!

I loved seeing [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] on your list! It’s a name I’ve kind of secretly always loved!

First, some ideas for the names you do like already:
If you want a formal name for [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and hubby isn’t feeling [name_f]Lucette[/name_f], what about [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Luciana[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f].
You could do a formal name for [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and then call her [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] are cute as nicknames if they have very different sounding first names. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lillith[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillia[/name_f] (although that one is a little closer than the other two) are all possibilities.
[name_f]Posey[/name_f] is similar in sound to [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]. But [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is a bit more vintage feeling than [name_f]Posey[/name_f] is, do you like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] at all?
Similar sounding/feeling name to [name_f]Willa[/name_f], have you considered [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]? [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] could be a nickname for: [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], [name_f]Winona[/name_f], [name_u]Winslow[/name_u], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] or [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f].

Sorry for any repeats! What about a gemstone name? Gemstones are found in nature and might not feel as “hippy” to your husband. Here are some nature names that also register as legit, classic/vintage names:
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] nickname [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_f]Rora[/name_f]
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
[name_f]Camellia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cammie[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f]
[name_f]Coral[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] (or [name_f]Yasmin[/name_f] which also means [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] if the Disney association bothers you)
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] nn [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Junie[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nola[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mari[/name_f], [name_f]Goldie[/name_f], [name_f]Golda[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalin[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Zara[/name_f] (means “to bloom”)
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]

“p.s. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is a name on my mom’s side and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is one in the “traditional” camp that I’ve been considering.”

We are in exactly the same boat at the moment, struggling to agree on a name for our third child!

[name_f]Vienne[/name_f] (vee-yen) is the name I chose for my daughter three years ago, partly inspired by [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and partly by the lead character in Chocolat, [name_f]Vianne[/name_f].
It has the same meaning: alive, essence of life.

I’ve since found others (online) who have this name and I always get comments on how lovely her name sounds.
The only trouble for me is now picking a name I love just as much!

I love [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]!

[name_f]Corina[/name_f]/[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]/[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] ([name_f]Cora[/name_f])
[name_f]Camila[/name_f]/[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]/[name_f]Camille[/name_f] ([name_f]Mila[/name_f])
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_u]Josie[/name_u])
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] ([name_f]Vera[/name_f])
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] ([name_f]Evie[/name_f]/[name_f]Eve[/name_f])
[name_f]Irene[/name_f] ([name_f]Irie[/name_f])
[name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]/[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] ([name_f]Clara[/name_f])
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Celia[/name_f]/[name_f]Celie[/name_f])
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] ([name_f]Evie[/name_f])
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] ([name_f]Della[/name_f])
[name_f]Callista[/name_f] ([name_f]Callie[/name_f])
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] ([name_f]Stella[/name_f])
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] ([name_f]Mira[/name_f])
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] ([name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f])

Also, some of the other names on my name list incase they inspire you:
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] (I love how earthy this name is)
[name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_f]Oriane[/name_f] - means golden sunrise
Orlea (or [name_f]Orly[/name_f]) - means bathed in light
[name_f]Selah[/name_f] - means to pause and deeply reflect with reverence
[name_f]Ione[/name_f]
[name_f]Elka[/name_f] (total woodland fairie name!)
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f] &
[name_u]Luca[/name_u]/[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]

Good luck with the name hunt, let us know how you go!

Sorry for repeats:
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Lark[/name_f] (as a middle)
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]

Stay with me for this one, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] made me think of Roses, which made me think of [name_f]Rosey[/name_f], my brothers friend [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] went by [name_f]Rosey[/name_f] for years. That is, until she became too cool for it. What about [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]? It’s traditional with many nn options, including a flower.

I like the suggestions of [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f].

One caveat w/[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]: My 27-year-old stepdaughter is a [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (full name [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]) & she’s complained for years that there are more canine Lucys than human Lucys.

I agree that [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Lily[/name_f] are too close to [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f], unfortunately.

[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is quite amusing & the names go well w/your two children: [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_m]Liam[/name_m], & [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] sound nice together.

What about [name_f]Silvie[/name_f] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]?

Good luck!

What about [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f]? Sounds great with your sibset and easily shortened to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].

As a disclaimer, I’ve never named a kid, or anything really close to that, but I love reading posts of people looking for advice because that kind of thing just fascinates me (no idea why). But, anyway, I don’t usually post, but I just had to. First off, I love your kids names [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] is one of my favorites! I think that [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] would probably be too close (which is sad because [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is so great) but you mentioned [name_f]Willa[/name_f], another of my favorites, and I don’t see why [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] would be to close. The only thing is the double 'l’s. I’m writing a book where the main character are seven siblings and each of them has a name that is heavy on the ‘l’ sound ([name_f]Ella[/name_f], which is almost [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]). To me, that’s a subtle way of doing a sibset and connecting your children’s names. Since [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_m]Liam[/name_m] already have the ‘l’ sound, I think it would be cool for you to pick something like [name_f]Willa[/name_f], or [name_f]Lila[/name_f], or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] to kind of continue that. People might not even notice, but I think it would give off a sense of being connected. I don’t think [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or [name_f]Willa[/name_f] would be mistaken for [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

My favorite of all your options is [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. I love [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] and think it works beautifully with your other family names. Somebody else suggested [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but I much prefer the nn [name_f]Nolie[/name_f]. I think that would be fun to keep the L sound going. I also like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] for you nn [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]. It has the L, is fun, and nature sounding. I have a [name_f]Clover[/name_f], which sounds sweet rather than whimsical, but we call her Clovie a lot and I really love it (obviously).

[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]), [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Brodie[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Liam[/name_m])
and
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]Whimsy[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]) or [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Lucy[/name_f])

I love:
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]

I like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_m]Liam[/name_m], and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as well. When I read your post I instantly thought [name_f]Mia[/name_f] would be a great nn to fit in with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. It would tie in nicely.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a nice option to get to the nn [name_f]Mia[/name_f]
