Hello! We’re pregnant with our first child, a daughter, who until last week was supposed to be called [name_f]Ines[/name_f]. My husband got a job offer and we need to move to Germany. He’s Spanish and I’m Portuguese.
What names work in these 3 languages: Spanish, Portuguese and [name_m]German[/name_m]?
Please Help!
I’m almost in the same predicament, except instead of [name_m]German[/name_m] it’s English for me.
[name_u]Lucky[/name_u] for you Germany nowadays is very diverse (well at least the big cities like [name_m]Berlin[/name_m]).
My Suggestions: [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Luisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] ([name_f]Leona[/name_f] works well too)
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Anita[/name_f]
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Silvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_f]Paula[/name_f]
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] or [name_f]Maia[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] or [name_f]Estela[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Teresa[/name_f] or [name_f]Theresa[/name_f]
[name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Ines[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolina[/name_f]
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] (will be perfect in Germany because at least 5 [name_m]German[/name_m] friends of ours have picked [name_m]Emil[/name_m] for their sons)
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Mathilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f]
Nameberry has a list for the most popular names given to babies in Germany (2014) and I think there are many that work perfectly in Spanish and Portuguese: Most Popular Names in Germany 2022 | Nameberry
I think [name_f]Ines[/name_f] is beautiful! I think the [name_m]German[/name_m] verson is [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], which is still beautiful but I think [name_f]Ines[/name_f] is so so lovely! Here’s a little list of other names but I think [name_f]Ines[/name_f] is just fine
I have the same criteria except it’s [name_m]German[/name_m], Spanish, and English for us! I honestly think [name_f]Ines[/name_f] will work fine in Germany, and if that is truly the name you love, don’t change it because you are moving! What if you move again in a few years? Or what if your little one ends up leaving Germany one day? I honestly think most Spanish names will work well in Germany as the pronunciation of names are pretty similar.
For what it’s worth, my daughter ended up with a name that is pronounced slightly different in [name_m]German[/name_m] and Spanish and completely different in English. But her name was set in stone regardless due to it being a family name. She’s 4 now and responds to all 3 pronunciations of her name.
I think [name_f]Ines[/name_f] would work perfectly in Germany and I adore it.
But, other suggestions (I’m not sure if all of this work in Portuguese but I do know that they work on Spanish and [name_m]German[/name_m], sorry if some of them don’t work in Portuguese):
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Ana[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Luisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (I don’t know which spelling would you prefer, I’m from a Spanish speaking country and love [name_f]Luisa[/name_f])
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Paula[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]/[name_f]Sara[/name_f] (I prefer [name_f]Sara[/name_f] and in Spanish is so beautiful)
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Ines[/name_f] will sound good in my opinion and if you like it go for it!!
I also need names that work in English and Spanish but I don’t want it to be the same name in both languages if that makes sense
