Help! Lost and out of ideas

I’m kind of going nuts over this whole name thing. It really wasn’t this difficult with our first dd. Once we found out we were having a girl we pretty much settled on [name]Olivia[/name] not even knowing just how popular it was but we are very happy with it and think it suits her perfectly.

However, this time around we are having a lot of problems. We don’t know what we are having because the baby would not cooperate and now I’m 32 weeks and we figured we might as well let it be a surprise. BUT that means we have to come up with both a boy’s and girl’s name. And we just can’t commit to “the one”. In the beginning we were all excited about [name]Nadia[/name], then came [name]Natasha[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name], [name]Selena[/name]/[name]Selina[/name], [name]Sabrina[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name]. Two weeks ago we were convinced we were happy with [name]Sabrina[/name] but now DH is having second thoughts. Two days ago we both got excited about [name]Fiona[/name] but now we are having doubts again. We love the name but think we might get some negative comments from family. We never tell family any names we are considering for that reason.

I guess I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions for new names to add to my list. We like Feminine names that also sound Strong. We don’t if it’s popular or not but nothing too obscure or made up.

We are having even more problems with boy names. We really have none! I figure we will settle on a girl name and move on to a boy name.

Thanks for reading my long rant!

I’m sorry to hear you are having so much trouble! All the names you have considered are great!

[name]How[/name] about [name]Cassidy[/name], and [name]Natasha[/name] is nice. But I wouldn’t worry about what your family might think. If you and your man love the name [name]Fiona[/name] (or whatever you decide) it will be perfect!!! :).

I agree the names you have considered are all nice. I actually like [name]Fiona[/name] the best - like [name]Olivia[/name], it’s a name with history, that nonetheless feels very on-trend (less popular than [name]Olivia[/name] to be sure, but bounding up the charts). It’s quite pretty - a good friend used it recently and I love it on the little girl. If you’re worried the family will react negatively to the Shrek association, you could point out that [name]Olivia[/name] is also a piglet in a popular series : D.

I agree with pp that [name]Isabella[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name] would fit nicely if you want to keep looking. I think [name]Isabel/name and [name]Sophie[/name] would work by the same token. [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name] have a lot of sound overlap with [name]Fiona[/name] if you like that. So does [name]Josephine[/name], and I like [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] a lot together actually.

Another [name]Fiona[/name]-similar name: [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] would be very Shakespearean, and a subtle alphabetical order thing would be going on, which is cute (but not something you’d at all have to stick with if you had future kids).

Seeing as how you had both [name]Nadia[/name] and [name]Natasha[/name] on the option list - what about [name]Natalie[/name]? It has the sound overlap with [name]Nadia[/name] and [name]Natasha[/name] but is much more timeless/familiar than those too, and so it pairs more cleanly with [name]Olivia[/name] (I think sisters [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Nadia[/name] or [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Natasha[/name] are still fine). I really like [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Natalie[/name]! [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Fiona[/name] sounds good too.

Or since you liked [name]Nadia[/name] and [name]Natasha[/name] you might like Russian names? [name]Anastasia[/name]? [name]Tatiana[/name]? [name]Natalia[/name]? [name]Anya[/name]? Um, I am blanking, but there are more. [name]Larissa[/name]? Any name in the [name]Laura[/name] family ([name]Lauren[/name], [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Laura[/name], [name]Larissa[/name]) could be nice too - subtle plant allusions with both.

Good luck! You will get there!

All the names you considered are lovely. I like [name]Fiona[/name] the best and if you love it you should go for it and not worry what other people might think.

[name]Fiona[/name] is gorgeous and is by far my favorite. I also have a soft spot for [name]Miranda[/name] - it’s so lovely. [name]Both[/name] of those go great with [name]Olivia[/name]!

Thanks everyone. I think [name]Fiona[/name] is the front runner for now at least. I appreciate all you comments!

I really love [name]Fiona[/name] with [name]Olivia[/name]

I think [name]Fiona[/name] fits so nicely with [name]Olivia[/name] and if your only worries are negative comments from family, then I wouldn’t let it stop you - no one is going to say nasty things once the baby is here and they associate it with a sweet little baby. Stick To Your Guns!

[name]Fiona[/name] goes wonderfully with [name]Olivia[/name] and it is by far my favorite of the names you listed. There is a baby [name]Fiona[/name] in my family and her name was universally loved by the whole family (which is very diverse) from the start! There were no negative comments from anyone! If you’re worried, just announce it after the baby is born! There is nothing to criticize about that name - it is beautiful!
