Help! Matilda, Charlotte, Nell or Alice??

My family and I are stuck in this indecision that is driving me nuts.
Please any suggestions, opinions are welcome, even other names? I also like [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Odette[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Ruby[/name]… but not everyone is keen on these. Still nothing jumps out at me…

Our narrow down of names for baby girl are:

[name]Matilda[/name] (potential nicknames: [name]Millie[/name], [name]Tillie[/name] or [name]Matty[/name] - dont like this though, as too similar to [name]Matthew[/name])
[name]Charlotte[/name] (potential nicknames: [name]Lottie[/name] or [name]Charlie[/name])
[name]Nell[/name] (shortened for Nefeli, or [name]Eleanor[/name], but don’t like [name]Nelly[/name])
[name]Alice[/name] (nickname [name]Ally[/name]??)

Would love a timeless name that grows with baby.
Thank you!

Oops, correction: nicknames for [name]Charlotte[/name] are [name]Lottie[/name] and [name]Charlie[/name]!

WOW! Where to begin. I love [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], AND [name]Alice[/name]–they are all on my own list! Odette is on my list, too: it’s too bad your family doesn’t like it :frowning:

[name]Matilda[/name]: I [name]ADORE[/name] this name. The full name has so much elegance and a hint of mystery, and it has the sweetest nicknames. I like [name]Tilly[/name] and [name]Tilda[/name] the best for nicknames, but [name]Millie[/name] is so cute!

[name]Charlotte[/name]: Effortless beauty. I love love love [name]Lottie[/name].

[name]Alice[/name]: I love this name for it’s sweetness and curiosity (courtesy of the dear [name]Alice[/name] in Wonderland). If I had an [name]Alice[/name], I don’t think I would use a nickname because it’s so sweet already. However, if you really want one, I like Lissy the best. [name]Ally[/name] is overdone for me.

Now we come to [name]Nell[/name]. [name]Nell[/name] by itself is, for me, pretty blah especially compared to the other three. [name]Nell[/name] is an adorable nickname, but as a full name, I don’t like it. Ways to get to [name]Nell[/name] besides what you’ve listed: [name]Helena[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Cornelia[/name], [name]Ellen[/name], [name]Elena[/name]/[name]Elaina[/name], etc.

In order, I like:

[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Elena[/name]

Other suggestions:

[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Heidi[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] or [name]Coraline[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Minerva[/name]
[name]Annalise[/name]
[name]Lorelei[/name]

The only name I like is [name]Alice[/name]. I’ve always loved this name! I think it would age just fine. The only problem I have with [name]Alice[/name] is that it’s so overused.

I probably wouldn’t use a nickname for [name]Alice[/name] but I like [name]Ally[/name] or [name]Alie[/name].

I like [name]Charlotte[/name], nn [name]Charlie[/name]. There is a new TV show on NBC where the main character is [name]Charlotte[/name] with nn [name]Charlie[/name]. It’s a great choice, even if it is popular.

I love all of them so it’s so hard. Why don’t you use two of your faves in a combo.

[name]Alice[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Nell[/name] [name]Piper[/name] (not as timeless as the other combos but it has lots of spunk. What about [name]Eleanor[/name] “[name]Nell[/name]” [name]Piper[/name]? )

[name]Nell[/name]. 100 percent, all the way, full stop. It’s sleek and chic yet has this casual spunk at the same time. The hitch with naming her [name]Eleanor[/name], nicknamed [name]Nell[/name], is that she would probably get called [name]Elle[/name] or [name]Ellie[/name], since fewer and fewer people are aware of historical nicknames. (You might hear a lot of, “[name]How[/name] did you get [name]Nell[/name] out of [name]Eleanor[/name]?”)

That being said, if you really REALLY want to call her a nickname 95 percent of the time and you don’t like [name]Nelly[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] might give you more options. Actually, [name]Caroline[/name] would give you (I think) nicer nicknames than [name]Charlotte[/name] would. ([name]Carrie[/name], [name]Cara[/name], [name]Caro[/name], [name]Lina[/name], etc.)

I’ve always loved the name [name]Charlotte[/name] and nn [name]Charlie[/name]. I like [name]Nell[/name] too. [name]How[/name] about [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Nell[/name].

I love [name]Charlotte[/name]. bigsweater’s suggestion of [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Nell[/name] is lovely.
