[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I’m a student - about to enter college - and I’m seriously considering changing my name. The problem is that I still haven’t found that perfect name.
I like short, feminine, unique names. I considered [name_f]Lily[/name_f] for a while, but it’s too common for me. Some of my favorites right now are [name_f]Izara[/name_f], [name_u]Arden[/name_u], and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. My problem is that while I want an uncommon name, I also want one that will sound professional and that I won’t eventually regret. Any suggestions?
Well based on your screenname, [name_f]Violet[/name_f] seems the best option of the three.
But in all seriousness, that’s a pretty personal choice.
One thing that might help you is looking at a list of older names, for example names that were popular 100+ years ago. Here’s my reasoning: the names will be mostly familiar, not overly trendy, (although actually looking at the 1916 list a lot of the names are coming back into popularity…) and somewhat unique. Most people know the name [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], but I’d wager that many don’t actually know a person named [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f].
A few other examples:
[name_f]Ida[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1986)
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1972)
[name_f]Reva[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1962)
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1972)
[name_f]Margery[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1958)
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] / [name_f]Louella[/name_f] (both haven’t been in the top 1000 since 1955)
[name_f]Imogene[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1955)
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1960)
[name_f]Inez[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1976)
[name_f]Elva[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1973)
[name_f]Lura[/name_f] (hasn’t been in the top 1000 since 1949)
I also like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] from your list. Other than that, my first though was [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. It’s short, feminine, uncommon but sounds professional, imo.
