I am 35 weeks pregnant with baby #3. We don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl, but I need help choosing between two boy names. The middle name will be [name]David[/name] after my husbands father’s middle name. Our last name is Wieler. My two girls are [name]Sarah[/name] and [name]Ellen[/name], but I don’t really care if it goes together with their names or not, as we’ve struggled a lot just to agree on these two names as it is. So please, help me choose between the following:
[name]Benson[/name] [name]David[/name] Wieler - My husband wants to name him [name]Ben[/name] but for me this is just a little better, as I don’t think [name]Ben[/name] [name]David[/name] flows.
or
[name]Avi[/name] [name]David[/name] Wieler - not traditional like our other names, but I’m really drawn to it (ah-vee)
I much prefer [name]Avi[/name]. It’s different. I think [name]Ellen[/name] and [name]Ben[/name] are too matchy in sound for siblings. When I was young, I used to watch the TV show “[name]Benson[/name]” about a smart-alec black butler. When I hear the name, that’s who I see.
[name]Benson[/name] sounds more sophisticated [name]Avi[/name] sounds more like a nickname. I am one of those people that think it would be pretty annoying to have to spell your name everytime you say it for people to get it, so it could get tiring for him to have to explain his name.
[name]Just[/name] my thoughts both are cute though.
blueeyes26, that’s my husbands concern with [name]Avi[/name] as well. I’m so torn, as [name]Benson[/name] is his pick and though I like the name [name]Ben[/name] it’s so common where I live and I’m sure his name will be shortened to [name]Ben[/name]!
I much prefer [name]Avi[/name] but I don’t like that it’s repeated in the middle of dAVId. Might not bother you, though, just something that sticks out to me.
I like [name]Avi[/name], but it does feel like a nickname. Maybe there’s a longer version that you could use and call him [name]Avi[/name]? Like [name]Averill[/name] or [name]Avner[/name].
I also like [name]Benson[/name], but also remember the tv show about the butler. [name]Bennett[/name] or [name]Benton[/name] both appeal to me more.
I love [name_u]Avi[/name_u], its on my list. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it is shorter I actually think it sounds more decisive and complete than [name_m]Benson[/name_m].
I like [name_u]Avi[/name_u] and love [name_m]Ben[/name_m], but not [name_m]Benson[/name_m]. What about [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]? Or [name_m]Benedict[/name_m].
[name_u]Avi[/name_u] is the pseudonym of a great author. It doesn’t feel incomplete to me, and it’s familiar but uncommon.
[name_m]Ben[/name_m]! Its a respectable male name that conveys quite strength and resolve. [name_u]Avi[/name_u] is too feminine and high-strung. [name_m]Benson[/name_m] (and Hedges) is a cigarette brand I think. Its also a bit to dated (the -son suffix being used on ever guy under the age of 6). [name_m]Ben[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] is the best choice.
I like [name_u]Avi[/name_u]! Or [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]/[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]/[name_m]Ben[/name_m]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t care for [name_m]Benson[/name_m] - unless it is a family name or you have some other connection to this surname.
I dislike [name_m]Benson[/name_m] and love [name_u]Avi[/name_u], so easy pick for me.
[name_u]Avi[/name_u] is sometimes a nick for [name_m]Avram[/name_m], but [name_u]Avi[/name_u] doesn’t feel incomplete to me at all. Probably because I know a metric ton of guys named [name_u]Avi[/name_u]. Which doesn’t sound like the sound in [name_m]David[/name_m] so I’m not seeing the repetition as a problem? Ahhh-vee, [name_u]Day[/name_u]-vid? [name_u]Avi[/name_u] [name_m]David[/name_m] is a perfectly cromnulent combo.
I like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and Benzion (ben-zee-un) but not [name_m]Benson[/name_m] or [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] or [name_m]Ben[/name_m] by itself.
