Help me choose between my old favorite boy names and my new ones?

[Old]=right [[name_m]New[/name_m]]=left

[name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Thorvald[/name_m] [[name_f]Yo[/name_f]-hahn] or [name_m]Othello[/name_m] [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m]?
[name_m]Ole[/name_m] Folkward [O-lah] or [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]?
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] or [name_m]Olev[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]?
[name_m]Oleg[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] or [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] Fenris?
[name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m] or [name_u]Loki[/name_u] [name_m]Reginald[/name_m]?
Wolfram [name_m]Soren[/name_m] [Vohlf-rahm] or [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]?

Please justify your choice - this is the only way you could help me. (You don’t need to type endless comments for each name.[name_m]Just[/name_m] a few thoughts).I know this will destroy the fun,but just picking, without justifying, won’t be helpful. This is not a name game,I need help with boy names.

  1. [name_m]Othello[/name_m] [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m]. The literary character of [name_m]Othello[/name_m] in Shakespear’s “The Tragedy of [name_m]Othello[/name_m]” is not a very nice connection, and not a good role model, but I like the name. Could be a deal breaker.
  2. [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. I just like the way it is said better than [name_m]Ole[/name_m]. [name_m]Ole[/name_m] doesn’t seem like a real name, while [name_m]Franz[/name_m] is a nice [name_m]German[/name_m] name.
  3. [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]. [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] is a strong and powerful name. The names of kings in Norway and [name_u]Sweden[/name_u]. Now THAT’s a cool connection.
  4. Lyle Fenris. Lyle is a very different style to your other names, but I still love it. I L O V E Fenris. How about Fenris Lyle? That sounds pretty cool
  5. [name_m]Hector[/name_m] Wilhem. I think [name_m]Hector[/name_m] is more wearable than [name_u]Loki[/name_u]. I also don’t like the flow of [name_u]Loki[/name_u] [name_m]Reginald[/name_m] as much as [name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m].
  6. I’m not really drawn to either of these. [name_u]Leland[/name_u] seems like a strange choice among your others, much more trendy and recent. I think Wolfram will have a hard time with spelling and pronunciation issues.
  1. [name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Thorvald[/name_m], though I prefer either [name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Thor[/name_m] or [name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m]. [name_m]Othello[/name_m] is nice-sounding, but he was a very tragic figure in [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m], and not someone I’d want my child modeled after. I’m unfamiliar with [name_m]Thorvald[/name_m], and it’s not my favorite. [name_m]Johann[/name_m], however, has wonderful musical namesakes like [name_m]Bach[/name_m] (both of them), Beethoven and Pachelbel.
  2. [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. [name_m]Ole[/name_m] looks like the slang word for “old,” Folkward looks silly. Though my association of [name_m]Franz[/name_m] is [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m], the Austrian archduke whose assassination was the straw-breaking event that launched WWI. [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] flows nicely, though, and [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Kafka[/name_m] is a good carrier of the name.
  3. [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], though it is dramatic, and [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] reminds me of the awesome [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Allan[/name_m] [name_u]Poe[/name_u]. Not a fan of the other option.
  4. [name_m]Oleg[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]…only because I dislike [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] and Fenris. I worry about [name_m]Oleg[/name_m]'s translation into English, it’s much better in Slavic tongues. [name_m]Paul[/name_m] seems a little boring, compared to your other names.
  5. [name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m], though I much prefer [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m] [name_m]Hector[/name_m]. [name_u]Loki[/name_u] and [name_m]Reginald[/name_m] are very different styles, and don’t flow. [name_m]Oleg[/name_m] [name_u]Loki[/name_u] is a cool idea, though.
  6. Tie. Wolfram [name_m]Soren[/name_m]: while, being Dutch, I completely understand your pronunciation of Wolfram, I fear that in [name_u]America[/name_u], [name_m]Britain[/name_m], etc., it will be continuously mispronounced. For this reason, I’d choose [name_m]Soren[/name_m] Wolfram, particularly since I’m not especially drawn to Wolfram. [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]: very…presidential. [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_m]Stanford[/name_m] (while not a president, gives off a very upper-class, leader-like vibe) and [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] are called to mind. Doesn’t really fit in with your other names.

[name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Thorvald[/name_m] [[name_f]Yo[/name_f]-hahn] or [name_m]Othello[/name_m] [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m]? - [name_m]Johann[/name_m] wasn’t a wife killer in a [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] play. [name_m]Othello[/name_m] sounds nice but he’s nots not a great role model. What about [name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m]?

[name_m]Ole[/name_m] Folkward [O-lah] or [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]? - [name_m]Ole[/name_m] may be mispronouned as “ollee” and “Folkward” is odd. [name_m]Franz[/name_m] should be ok. I like the Dutch spelling [name_m]Frans[/name_m] a little better.

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] or [name_m]Olev[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]? - [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] is strong. [name_m]Olev[/name_m] not so much. I love [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] more than [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] though.

[name_m]Oleg[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] or [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] Fenris? - The only associations I have of these names are fashion designer [name_m]Oleg[/name_m] Cassini and singer [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] [name_m]Lovett[/name_m]. I’ll choose [name_m]Oleg[/name_m] although I’m not crazy about any of the names.

[name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m] or [name_u]Loki[/name_u] [name_m]Reginald[/name_m]? - [name_m]Hector[/name_m] is more usable than [name_u]Loki[/name_u]. I wouldn’t want by son named after a trickster god and I don’t think [name_u]Loki[/name_u] would age well.

Wolfram [name_m]Soren[/name_m] [Vohlf-rahm] or [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]? - [name_u]Leland[/name_u] is a “softer” choice and I prefer this type of name more. I don’t like many “[name_m]Wolf[/name_m]” names and your “v” pronunciation makes it even more unattractive in sound.

  1. [name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Thorvald[/name_m]. [name_m]Othello[/name_m] [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m] feels pretentious.
  2. I love [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]! [name_m]Ole[/name_m] Folkward [O-lah] sounds awkward to me.
  3. [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] or [name_m]Olev[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] - I’m torn on this one. I think [name_m]Olev[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] flows a bit better.
  4. I prefer [name_m]Oleg[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. I don’t really like [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] or Fenris.
  5. Like [name_u]Loki[/name_u] but not [name_m]Reginald[/name_m]. [name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m] is very handsome.
  6. Wolfram [name_m]Soren[/name_m] or [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] - I know a Lee Monroe, but I think Wolfram [name_m]Soren[/name_m] is more intriguing.

[name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Thorvald[/name_m] [[name_f]Yo[/name_f]-hahn] or [name_m]Othello[/name_m] [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m]? [name_m]Johann[/name_m] and [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] are both on my own favorites list. I prefer [name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Thorvald[/name_m].
[name_m]Ole[/name_m] Folkward [O-lah] or [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]? [name_m]Ole[/name_m] is the USA is often slang for Old. Ex: [name_m]Ole[/name_m] Miss is a nickname for one of the Mississippi colleges.
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] or [name_m]Olev[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]? I like both of these equally. You obviously like O names. I think both of these are usable and you should keep both. I like [name_m]Olev[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] slightly more if I had to pick.
[name_m]Oleg[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] or [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] Fenris? [name_m]Oleg[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. I think [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] is usable, the middle names broke the tie.
[name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m] or [name_u]Loki[/name_u] [name_m]Reginald[/name_m]? [name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m] by a mile.
Wolfram [name_m]Soren[/name_m] or [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]? I like this one better. I think the other one is too dramatic for my taste.

[name_m]Johann[/name_m] [name_m]Thorvald[/name_m] [[name_f]Yo[/name_f]-hahn] or [name_m]Othello[/name_m] [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m]? [name_m]Johann[/name_m]. I can’t imagine meeting a man named [name_m]Othello[/name_m] irl. [name_m]Johann[/name_m] is unusual but a great name
[name_m]Ole[/name_m] Folkward [O-lah] or [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]? [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is a great name. [name_m]Ole[/name_m] seems silly and Folkward looks like a curse word. When I hear o-lah, all I hear is the Brazillian football fans singing–youtube it.
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] or [name_m]Olev[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]? I love [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]. I’m not fond of [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] or [name_m]Olev[/name_m]. I guess I’d go with [name_m]Olev[/name_m], because I like [name_m]Lev[/name_m].
[name_m]Oleg[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] or [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] Fenris? I don’t like either but I think [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] would be easier to live with. But then he could always go by his middle name [name_m]Paul[/name_m].
[name_m]Hector[/name_m] [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m] or [name_u]Loki[/name_u] [name_m]Reginald[/name_m]? [name_m]Hector[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m].
Wolfram [name_m]Soren[/name_m] [Vohlf-rahm] or [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]? I don’t hate [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] and [name_u]Leland[/name_u] is rather dorky (like [name_m]Dwight[/name_m] or [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m]) so I guess I’d go with Wolfram.

I don’t have opinions on your choices and will leave the commentary to those with more imagination, but just thought I would mention that ‘[name_m]Ol[/name_m]’ Folkward’ is definitely the opening or punch line of a joke, not the name of a human child.

Yay thanks for so many nice answers
