help me decide! Clara or Elle

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] - please help me decide on our little girl’s name.

We are completely torn between [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Elle[/name_f].

Though [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] are quite common, we like that [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] or not often used but still not too unfamiliar sounding.
Thoughts?

I am a big believer in the thought that you may ask the Internet these questions; but what they like best may not change your mind or draw you closer to one option. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] are both lovely, underused names and I personally cannot choose between them either.
First of all, have you thought of middle names? Think of a name or names that you would love to have as a middle name for your daughter. Maybe seeing which name it pairs better with will help you.
Second of all, this might sound ridiculous, but some name decisions are left until the baby is born, and sometimes you may feel that the baby “looks like a [name_f]Clara[/name_f]” or “looks like an [name_f]Elle[/name_f]”, but I understand you want closure. However, if you truly cannot choose within the timeframe, maybe your daughter’s face may help you out a bit when she’s born.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps! Good luck!

thank you! Her middle name will be [name_f]Margot[/name_f], which I think pairs well with both. For our first child, we had no problems coming up with his name! This time around, we just can’t decide.

[name_f]Elle[/name_f] is beautiful. I don’t like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Margot[/name_f].

I’m not sure that either name flows with [name_f]Margot[/name_f], honestly. Are you set on that name 100%?

Please don’t take offense, it’s just what I feel. =]

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is lovely! [name_f]Elle[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] sounds a bit chopped off to me, for some reason.

haha, no offense taken! - [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is for a family member so that name is sticking. It’s not my first choice either.

What’s your other child’s name? It could help to see what goes better with his/her name because I’m quite stuck between them too! They’re both so timeless and beautiful… I think I’m leaning ever so slightly toward [name_f]Elle[/name_f].

I must say that Teenberry’s advice is absolutely awesome and couldn’t have been put better! If you [name_f]DO[/name_f] want our thoughts, though, I actually [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] as I think it is a Name that works beautifully on any age, has grace, beauty and sweetness in equal measure, has a lovely meaning, and sounds TERRIFIC with [name_f]Margot[/name_f]! [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]! Elegant and sweet!

[name_m]Ah[/name_m], name honoring, gotcha =p

I know that you have to compromise, but the meaning behind honoring someone by naming your child after them doesn’t lie in using their whole name.

I’ve said before, I would be so honored to have someone use even part of my name and say, “we’re naming her with you in mind.” I think that would be great!

So what I’m getting at is, if you haven’t discussed it already, maybe think about using just a few letters? Like a name beginning with [name_f]MAR[/name_f]. Or I’ve even seen people take the meaning of the name of the person their honoring, and find another name that suited their tastes with the same meaning =]

I’d go with [name_f]Clara[/name_f], partly because it’s very pretty, and partly because I also speak [name_m]French[/name_m], so “[name_f]Elle[/name_f]” to me means “she”, which I wouldn’t want my child’s name to be. I also feel like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is more complete and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] feels kind of nickname. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] would be lovely!

i love [name_f]Clara[/name_f]!!! defiitely [name_f]Clara[/name_f] x

the other child is [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]!

I love love [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f].

[name_f]Elle[/name_f] is gorgeous, but I’ve overthought that name when considering it for our own daughter, and my reason for not using [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is that it sounds like a Spanish pronoun with any last name.

Ie [name_f]Elle[/name_f] [name_f]Summers[/name_f] = el summers.

I prefer [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. It sounds like a name for a beautiful, intelligent, brave girl and works well into adulthood.

[name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are both beautiful. I slightly prefer [name_f]Elle[/name_f] to [name_f]Clara[/name_f] but [name_f]Claire[/name_f] to [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. I slightly prefer the flow of [name_f]Elle[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] over [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. You cannot go wrong with either.

[name_u]Jojo[/name_u]- I think the Spanish [name_f]El[/name_f] is also my hold up with using [name_f]Elle[/name_f] on its own it really is just gorgeous though.

With [name_f]Clara[/name_f] I’m just worried it’s a bit too old fashioned.

I absolutely love [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f], (but then I love [name_f]Clara[/name_f]) and it goes well with [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u], but I would also say that it works well to have a a second choice as your minds may change when you meet her, good luck choosing and both combos are lovely.

I absolutely love [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and definitely don’t think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is old fashioned, I feel it is a lovely name that deserves more attention than it receives, and the combo [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is beautiful (even if it isn’t a name you would necessarily have chosen). [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is nice but it kind of feels a little unfinished and I agree with previous comments of its interpretations in other languages. Either way they are lovely combos. Good luck choosing .

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] is one of my favorite names! I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Elle[/name_f] definitely isn’t bad, but it sounds incomplete to me somehow.

I’m another vote for [name_f]Clara[/name_f]! It’s gorgeous. I don’t think it’s old fashioned at all, especially since [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is at #123 ([name_f]Claire[/name_f] is at #66) for popularity if you take spellings into account.

Going off this google doc, even though [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is less common as a fn than [name_f]Clara[/name_f] it can be a nn for multiple other names, so how often it is actually used may not be accurately depicted. For example, first names that have [name_f]Elle[/name_f] as a nn that are in the top 100 of the google doc: [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
