I need help coming up with a name to honor my mother and my mother-in-law who have both passed away. My mom is [name]Shari[/name] [name]Lynne[/name] and his mom is [name]Sandra[/name] [name]Ann[/name]. I don’t particlularly want to use either name out right but have been struggling to find one I like that seems to fit.
Some of the ones I have thought of or found to honor them would be:
[name]Charlotte[/name] - from a nameberry blog post, has the same starting sound as [name]Shari[/name] but don’t know if I would use it because my brother in laws ex has a niece named this ( she was born right after the divorce and I don’t want him thinking of her when he sees/hears our kid) and his new sister in law just had a little girl named [name]Charlie[/name]. My brother in law is my husbands twin and they are very close which is why this matters.
Annalynne - smoosh of their middle names, husband doesn’t like it and not sure if I really do either
[name]Serafina[/name] - starts w S and shares a lot of the same letters, is the Italian spelling (husband is Italian) and the meaning from cheribuam( sp?) angels is appealing. Also husband likes this one and I did too at first but didn’t think it “fit”
I am still trying to find my naming style as well. I think I like more of the classics but don’t want anything too popular, though if I really love the name I would probably go with it. Here are some names that I’m currently liking for whatever reason:
First of all, what a lovely gesture and a nice way to memorialize a loved one. I’m sure they would both be thrilled!
Be sure to consider their maiden names as well. Lots of last names can make lovely, modern first names, usually with only a small tweak.
Looking at what you have right now, I would make the following suggestions: [name]Ann[/name] could become [name]Annie[/name], [name]Shari[/name] could become [name]Sarah[/name], or [name]Sandra[/name] could become [name]Alessandra[/name] and [name]Lynne[/name] could become [name]Lake[/name].
I think [name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Lake[/name] could be really beautiful. Good luck and I hope this helps you a little bit. [name]Don[/name]'t give up! We used family names for our son and we have never regretted it.
I think [name]Serafina[/name] would make a great choice. It sounds like it covers all the bases. And then perhaps choose a middle that is more your own style to pair it with. Though i’m not sure any of the options above would work as a middle with [name]Serafina[/name], they either make it a run-on, ex: [name]Serafina[/name] [name]Ava[/name] or have too many syllables, ex: [name]Serafina[/name] [name]Madeline[/name].
I would personally pair it with a 1 syllable middle. Perhaps a classic like [name]Jane[/name] or a modern choice like [name]Lux[/name] (the suggestion of [name]Lake[/name] is good too).
If I had your situation and had to honor, I’d do something like this:
Cancer is a Zodiac sign, now this might seem morbid, however I like the idea.
The sign of Cancer is ruled by the [name]Moon[/name], so a name relating to the [name]Moon[/name] or the ocean since it also controls the tide.
[name]Selena[/name] is my favourite one from this.
Now, some may not like the idea of it, but I think it’s a decent tie.
Some suggestions based on the scrambler:
[name]Adriana[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Nadia[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]
[name]Alessandra[/name]
[name]Ariana[/name]
[name]Elaina[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
Yes, I think it’s a lovely gesture to name children after family members. Since both mothers’ names start with S, I think you could really pick any S name to honor them. I like the idea of [name]Serafina[/name] too. What don’t you like about it? I like the suggestion of [name]Alessandra[/name]-- a very pretty name.
Some other possibilities:
[name]Adalyn[/name] [name]Sarah[/name]
Aliseanne
[name]Annabel[/name] [name]Cherise[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name] (this one has a lot of similar letters and means resurrection)
[name]Astrid[/name] (some similar letters and means star)
[name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Lynn[/name]
[name]Emmalyn[/name] [name]Sarah[/name]
[name]Esther[/name] [name]Leanne[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name]/[name]Estella[/name]
[name]Laurie[/name] [name]Sarah[/name]
[name]Liana[/name] [name]Sue[/name]
[name]Linnea[/name] [name]Star[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] Solace
[name]Melisande[/name] [name]Cheri[/name]
[name]Sally[/name] [name]Ann[/name]
[name]Sandrine[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Sharon[/name]
[name]Susan[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Lynn[/name]
[name]Suzanne[/name]
[name]Zara[/name] [name]Leonie[/name]
I love the idea of using a name that honors, and I totally understand your dilemma. Here some ideas:
[name]Cassandra[/name] nn [name]Cassie[/name]
[name]Marilyn[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Sabrina[/name] (Another S name which contains the letters a,r, and n which are in a lot the names you want to honor)
Other names that begin S
[name]Sapphira[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]
[name]Sarai[/name]
[name]Savannah[/name]
[name]Serena[/name] (close to [name]Serafina[/name] which you love, but a little simpler)
I like most of the names you already have. [name]Both[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Ava[/name] are popular here in the US.
Finally I am including a list of names that variants of the name [name]Ann[/name]. There’s a lot to pick from.
I like most of the names on your list. My favorite is [name]Seraphina[/name]. I like [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Ava[/name], but they are very popular in the USA.
Other ideas include:
I’m not quite sure but it just didn’t feel right when I started to use it in my head for her. Also, I was debating whether or not I like the nn of [name]Sera[/name]. I am of the feeling that you can’t pick nn’s for them as someone will use the one you don’t like so you should at least be ok with them. I had forgotten about [name]Alessandra[/name] as it is also Italian but my nephew’s name is [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Alexzander[/name] so I though it was too close to use.
I agree too with the shorter middle especially since our last name is Modesto so it would be a mouthful though but I’m not thrilled with a lot of one syllable names.
Thanks everyone for your help so far! It gives me a lot to think about and maybe I should just learn to love [name]Serafina[/name] since my husband also likes it too! My middle name is [name]Ann[/name] and so is my sister in law’s but just don’t want to give my little girl such a weighty name.
I’m starting to like [name]Madeline[/name] [name]Serafina[/name] Modesto as a name choice even though [name]Madeline[/name] is more popular. Or should it be [name]Serafina[/name] [name]Madeline[/name] Modesto. Or are both just too many syllables…
[name]Liane[/name] (prn lee-ann) or [name]Shyanne[/name] ([name]Cheyenne[/name]) or [name]Shay[/name] or [name]Suzanne[/name]. I see both of them represented in all of them.
