Help me get excited about girl names!

I’m pregnant with my first, our rainbow baby, and I’m so excited! We find out the gender soon and we will be over the moon happy with a boy or a girl! With that said, I’m dreading coming up with a girls name! We have two boys names we love - [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]. When it comes to girls names, I feel totally stuck and nothing is really exciting me, or the names I do love, my husband has already vetoed.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I love it but it’s maybe a little too popular, and my husband doesn’t like the [name_m]Willy[/name_m] Wonka association so it’s out.

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - [name_f]My[/name_f] all time favorite girl name, but my husband’s family are big fans of the TV show Friends so he said his parents will never take this name seriously.

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] - Probably my top actual contender, I love the connections to women from history like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] Tubman and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_m]Beecher[/name_m] [name_m]Stowe[/name_m] and literary like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] the spy. I like this name a lot but I’m just not sure it’s quite the one.

I guess I’m picky about names. I like names that aren’t too popular, don’t sound made up, and either have a good meaning or a good connection. I’m also not a huge fan of names that rhyme with or sound similar to other names (I like [name_f]Della[/name_f] but it rhymes with Ella/Stella and I don’t love that, for example). Middle name will probably be [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]!

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - A free-spirited girl, extremely happy go lucky who is friend to all. She’ll often come home with flowers in her hair and mud all over her clothes, but you won’t mind because her precious smile will melt all the scolding off your tongue. As she grows up, she’ll keep her kind nature, but become a natural leader and a force to be reckoned with, both in college and in her career. She will be kind, nurturing, and beautiful, band will always have a smile for all.

That’s what I think of when I hear [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name

I tried to find names that have meaningful meanings

Oh, it’s so tough when you love a name but it doesn’t work for whatever reason!

If you like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], what about [name_f]Viola[/name_f]? It’s almost the same sound, but less common, avoids the [name_m]Willy[/name_m] Wonka character, adds Shakespearean / literary cred, and has a musical vibe.
Other suggestions: [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_u]Willow[/name_u], [name_f]Yvaine[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f], [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], [name_f]Yolanda[/name_f].

If you like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], what about [name_u]Phaedra[/name_u]? It’s a similar sound, look, and construction, it’s also a name from Greek mythology, and it has a lovely meaning (though admittedly the myth is a bit tragic), and while it’s less common than [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], it’s pretty wearable and intuitive, while avoiding the Friends association.
Other suggestions: [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Rhea[/name_f], [name_f]Phryne[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f], [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u], [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u], [name_f]Belphoebe[/name_f].

If you like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], what about [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]? It shares many of the same sounds and vintage vibes while avoiding that difficult “hairy” homophone, there’s literary cred, and a plethora of adorable nicknames - [name_f]Hen[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], etc.
Other suggestions: [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Hester[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Hypatia[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Hestia[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f], [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], [name_f]Hespera[/name_f].

All such lovely names! I especially love all the wonderful associations you have with [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and the description of [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] by @winterlyricalfox. Is there a reason it doesn’t feel quite right to you? Maybe there’s a nickname, like [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] or [name_f]Ettie[/name_f], that makes it feel more like “the one”?

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite suggestion I have for you is definitely [name_f]Arrietty[/name_f]! It has the same sounds as [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] while being a little more unique (it’s actually a variation of Harriet) and it has some great literary/cinematography associations as well. [name_f]Arrietty[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a stunning combo imo.
