[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is my favourite name and has been for years. I think it’s both cute and sophisticated, and I can picture it on all ages. I know it’s becoming more popular, but I have very rarely met a little [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (and I work with kids!). It’s recognizable and easy to spell/pronounce without feeling commonplace or over-used IMO. I have a lot of other names on my list, but I keep coming back to [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], and feel like I would be heartbroken to never use it on my future daughter.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is “eh” on it, but has been known to change his mind about names, so I’m trying to figure out how to convince him to love this name! He loves [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and likes [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], so we are close but he’s not quite sold. He’s open to it since I love it so much, but has said he would probably call our daughter “Ellie” instead of [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] if we were to choose it, but I want him to like his child’s name!
Anybody know of any fictional characters named [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] that might inspire him to like the name (aside from [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] at the Plaza and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] from LOST)? Have any good convincing arguments I can show him?
I can’t think of a fictional character but it reminds me of the love story of [name_m]Abelard[/name_m] and [name_f]Héloïse[/name_f]. I also know a thirty-something [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] who is the only one I’ve ever met, she goes by Elu / Elou which I think is really pretty and much more interesting than [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. It gives me imagery of Parisian gardens, petals falling from roses, old poetry books. It’s medieval, international, classic, romantic, and honestly so underrated in the world of El-names!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite form is [name_f]Héloïse[/name_f] but I am starting to like the [name_f]English[/name_f] form (Eloise) as well recently! I always liked [name_f]Heloisa[/name_f] as well. I find it to be elegant, musical and with a great meaning.
dang, eloise at the plaza is my #1 eloise connection (no, really, the reason i like the name in the first place)
1- eloise nn ellie is already a start, but def he should like the name
2- elizabeth nn eloise and eliza and ellie?
3- so, bear with me, but family vloggers or actors that bear the name? only takes one person to make you like a name! closest i have is elise, but worth a try
4- find a name close enough to all options? like elise, for example
[name_f]My[/name_f] middle name is [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and I use it a lot in my everyday life - eg ordering coffees, listing my name, on any websites etc. I frequently asked my parents to switch my first and middle because of my love for the name and regret not doing it myself at various and opportune life transitions; to high school, university, work etc. [name_m]Even[/name_m] as a young girl, the name felt strong, adventurous and romantic (my parents told me about [name_f]Heloise[/name_f] & Abelard), and then later, it felt Frenchy and chic, story-book strong and pretty, and I also met an [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] as I was heading into my teens who was a real character.
It’s a sophisticated, tailored, easy to pronounce/spell, jewel of a name! It’s somehow quiet and attention-grabbing at the same time.
I love the suggestions of Elou (Ee-Lou or Eh-Lou) or Elo (Eh-low, the start of the name) for nicknames. I also like [name_f]Lilou[/name_f], [name_f]Lois[/name_f], [name_f]Lo[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], [name_f]Lolly[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f] or Ella…
Hate to say it as might go against your case, but anything but [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] - I really don’t like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] (it gives me squishy jelly, sluggish vibes). Please don’t butcher or allow others to butcher [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] in this way!
Anyway, hoping this personal testimony and nickname list help!
And perhaps… that is enough!
Because my answer to this question…
…is that perhaps the most convincing wearer of the name Eloise to prove to your husband that her name is ‘the one’ would be his own daughter one day. 🩷 Ellie is beautiful, and Eloise is beautiful. If it were his own wonderful child’s name, I’d wager that’d sell him on it better than any TV character or book illustration ever could.
I just wanted to say [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is gorgeous and romantic and you should choose it even if he is meh about it right now. He will love it the moment he lays eyes on his little princess
