Hey guys! Although I’m not expecting, my SO has told me multiple times that he has absolutely zero opinions on names and naming the kids will be up to me. Hopefully he changes his mind when I’m actually pregnant someday, but in the meantime, my girl name list is overwhelming me.
So please make your case for TWO names that I should drop, and explain yourself if possible Optional: You can also pick out your two favorites that I absolutely should keep. Thank you guys in advance!
Juniper ~ I really like [name_u]June[/name_u] & [name_f]Juno[/name_f] but for me [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] the name isn’t my cup of tea. The name in sound is just unattractive all I hear is Jew nipper which is just awkward. I don’t understand the hype.
Renata ~ not sure why but the name just reminds me of a car brand I don’t find it pretty at all
I think my favourites are [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] & [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] just elegant & classy
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! I love your ideas, but if I could drop 2 from your list, I would drop [name_f]Alice[/name_f] & [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f].
I 100% love [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] more than I do [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] seems a little plain, and I think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] sounds more refreshing. Plus the nickname [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] would be too cute.
I would drop [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] just because it sounds like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] with an “a” at the end. lol [name_m]Just[/name_m] my personal preference though!
Great list! If I had to drop 2 names I would choose [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. I’m not a fan of the hard “i” sound in [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], and as a plant ivy can be spiky and poisonous - not great imagery for a child! [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] has a pretty sound but makes me think of Shrek, unfortunately.
I really like a lot of your names but if I could only choose 2 to keep then I would pick [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. I don’t really have reasons I just think they’re super pretty! And [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] has multiple nickname options ([name_u]Issy[/name_u] and [name_f]Dora[/name_f]) which is a plus for me.
There is only one I feel strongly about… [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
I think this name is extremely outdated and I hate the Dor- sound. Also no one will meet your child without thinking about the wizard of oz, which isn’t necessarily a bad think but it’s something to think about.
This is a gorgeous list, you have great taste and I can see why you’re struggling to narrow it down.
The two names I like least are [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], which feels very dated and sort of fussy-sounded, and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], which I feel like is overly frilly (I much prefer [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]). [name_f]My[/name_f] two favorites on the other hand, are [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f].
Daniella: I’ve never been a huge fan of the sound (it’s the “nyell” sound in the middle, I think) plus I agree that it feels a little dated. I prefer [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f], which feels a bit lighter and brighter.
Anastasia: Controversial not to love this here, I know! I just find it a bit much, plus again the sound just doesn’t really appeal to me, especially the -sha pronunciation.
I love most of the names on your list, but if I had to choose just two to make a case for…
Sylvie: [name_u]Love[/name_u] this! Sweet but substantial, and feels so sunny and lively.
Greta: I just think this is so feisty and punchy. Obviously associated with [name_f]Greta[/name_f] Thunberg now, but not overwhelmingly so. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a really strong, cool, retro kind of name.
I would drop [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] & [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]. I find [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] dated and not in a cute vintage way yet. [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] is too over the top and frilly for me. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_f]Renata[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].
It’s a lovely list but I would drop [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] (dated and a little out of place) and [name_f]Renata[/name_f] (all I hear is “hi, I’m [name_f]Renata[/name_f] [name_u]Bliss[/name_u], and I’ll be your freestyle dance teacher”)
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] - Shrek, Shrek, Shrek
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] - itchy, poison ivy
(I also think of the evil step sister when I hear [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], but I absolutely adore the diminutive [name_f]Anya[/name_f]!)
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from your list are: [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]!
I’d drop [name_f]Greta[/name_f] & [name_f]Renata[/name_f]. [name_f]Greta[/name_f] because it’s associated with [name_f]Greta[/name_f] Thunberg to me (although I suppose if you like her there’s more reason to use it, personally I don’t) and [name_f]Renata[/name_f] because it has a completely different feel to the rest of your names.
I really like your list! I’d drop [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]! [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is not my favourite. It looks weird and I usually really like spin offs of names but I find [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] a bad spin off of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] I find dated and seems like it only belongs to a spoiled rich kid. No offence!!!
Drop [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] for the same reason—they both just sound kind of harsh.
[name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Maren[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are the keepers for me. All pretty yet unique names.
I would drop [name_f]Renata[/name_f]. I don’t find it very pretty, personally. It sounds a little harsh. Plus, I feel like the spelling & maybe pronunciation could get tricky. The other name that I don’t care for on your list is [name_f]Daniella[/name_f]. It’s not awful. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a little dated. And I don’t like [name_u]Dani[/name_u] much. Sounds a bit like a cheerleader. I do love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] though. I have a third option, but it’s not because it’s a bad name. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous, but if you want it said a certain way, it may just get annoying if people constantly say it the same as [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], you know?
I basically adore most of your list, so picking two to keep is hard! I don’t much like [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] or [name_f]Nola[/name_f]. And I don’t hate but am still not into [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. But they’re all good names! [name_f]My[/name_f] two absolute favorites are:
Fiona-That beautiful angel in my profile picture is [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. I’m obsessed w/her, so I love the name! She’s a wonderful little [name_f]Fiona[/name_f].
Esme-It’s so pixie, elegant, not over done & just a wonderful name.
Drop:
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - I can see myself (or teachers or staff at a doctors office) accidentally saying areola
Daniella - This jumps out to me as a name that’s overused at this time. I know so many [name_f]Danielle[/name_f]’s and I don’t feel like changing the E to an A makes much of a difference. It’s lovely, just too common right now.
Favorites:
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] - Not many people on this site like this name, but I LOVE it And I’m generally not a fan of classic names, but I have a soft spot for this one! I’m also partial to names that allow the kid to have a variety of nicknames to chose from. I adore the nn [name_u]Henri[/name_u] on a girl, but if she wants something girly, [name_f]Etta[/name_f] or [name_f]Rita[/name_f] is fine with me! And even tho it’s classic, it wasn’t in the top 1,000 for 2018
Georgia - [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] the same reasoning as above. I actually know of a girl named [name_u]George[/name_u] and the name has really grown on me! So I like that a girl with the name [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] can go by [name_u]George[/name_u], or for a more girly nn, [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] (but this has It vibes), or [name_f]Gia[/name_f]
Drop: either [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] (better to decide now which one your prefer, personally I’m a big fan of [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] but ultimately it comes down to want frilly or tailored.)
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]- while this name has plenty of feminine use I do prefer it as a masculine name. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], pronounced with the the emphasis on the end as you described, is totally a keeper though.
