Help me lock in my child’s name?

The first name is definitely [name_m]Tristan[/name_m], surname is [name_m]Williams[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

Middle choices

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]- flows well but no family meaning

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Scott[/name_m]- flows well but no family meaning

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Gus[/name_m]- doesn’t flow well but is very meaningful

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Evan[/name_m]- flows well, family meaning but I would like to include [name_m]Gus[/name_m] the same time if we use this

[name_f][/name_f]

Best combo at the moment is [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] but I don’t think it flows.

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] to Nameberry!

[name_f][/name_f]

As you mentioned, [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] and [name_m]Evan[/name_m] both ending in -n and being two syllables upsets the flow slightly but since both [name_m]Evan[/name_m] and [name_m]Gus[/name_m] are so meaningful to you I personally wouldn’t see that as a dealbreaker.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] / [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] obviously flow better, but if flow isn’t your #1[name_f][/name_f] priority I still think [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] sounds just fine. Alternatively, you could think about using variants of the names meaningful to you to improve flow, e.g. [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] or [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m].

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] to NB!

[name_f][/name_f]

I would go for a meaningful name or names [name_f][/name_f]- it’s nice to use honour names in the middle spot.

[name_f][/name_f]

If you go for both & keep them short, I actually like the other way too: [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] W

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] W is smoother, but I like the spunky punch of the other way.

[name_f][/name_f]

I agree with PP, I would anyway consider adapting/elongating the names as less direct but just as meaningful honours:

[name_f][/name_f]

Eg

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] W
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_m]Angus[/name_m] W
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Fergus[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] W
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] W
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] W

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Or[/name_m] picking just one of these for a single middle.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I love [name_m]Tristan[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

I actually think [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] flows perfectly fine [name_f][/name_f]- and better than [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] :person_shrugging:

It sounds like [name_m]Gus[/name_m] is the way to go – I don’t think you’ll regret choosing a name that is meaningful, whereas, if you choose a nice sounding name over a name with meaning, that is something you may later wish you’d done differently. I often see people in the midst of the naming decision feeling concerned about a lot things like flow, matching siblings, initials, and then a few years later they reflect how none of those sorts of things they worried about actually mattered.

[name_f][/name_f]

Personally, the flow of [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] W__ doesn’t bother me. I think it feels a little smoother if you slow down or pause slightly between each name, but that’s mainly to smooth out the ‘n’ to ‘G’ transition. It will also start to sound a lot more natural over time – some combinations need an adjustment period to get use to the sound and feel of the names together.

[name_f][/name_f]

Also worth keeping in mind, the times when all three (or four) names are said together will be infrequent, whereas, the times when you share your son’s name story with him or anyone else will feel significant – it should give you a feeling of satisfaction or pleasure and potentially with the passing of family history, values etc. So ultimately I think you need to go with the middle name that has the best name story. If you value [name_m]Evan[/name_m] and [name_m]Gus[/name_m] equally enough to include both, then do that.

[name_f][/name_f]

All the best with your decision!

I really like [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] W— [name_f][/name_f]!

[name_f][/name_f]

If you’re not sure about the flow, I think the prior suggestion of [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]August[/name_m] W— is also really smart and handsome.

I wouldn’t double barrel [name_m]Gus[/name_m]. If it’s super important to you, I’d go with [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m]. But my favorite combo is [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m].

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m]! Definitely [name_m]Scott[/name_m] followed by [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].

[name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] or [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m]

[name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] has the best flow out of your options, imo! It brings in a lovely balance of one meaningful middle & one that bridges the flow.

[name_f][/name_f]

I’ll also agree with the previous posters with the suggestion of [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m][name_f][/name_f], which flows so well & still contributes both your meaningful names. Maybe [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Everett[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] or [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] might work as well!

[name_m]Evan[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] flow the best with his full name I think [name_f][/name_f]- the others feel “S” heavy as a whole. This might be a stretch, but I think you could get [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] from [name_m]Gus[/name_m] + [name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- with first and last name I think it sounds pretty good.

if [name_m]Gus[/name_m] and [name_m]Evan[/name_m] are meaningful for you i’d say include them!! i think [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] [name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] sounds good and maybe breaks up your issues with flow you have the other way round! as someone with two family middle names it’s a really special thing to have and honestly i think meaning is more important than flow anyway

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] to Nameberry!

[name_f][/name_f]

I think [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] is a lovely name! Personally, I would do something like [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] (feels like the happy medium between [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and Evan)

[name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m]?

I would definitely go with [name_m]Gus[/name_m]. Better to go for a name with special meaning even if the flow isn’t perfect imo.

Congratulations on baby! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] is a beautiful name, and you’ve picked middles that go so well with him! [name_f][/name_f] I agree with the berries that [name_m]Gus[/name_m] sounds better with [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] than [name_m]Evan[/name_m] for me; I also agree that [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] is my favorite option for middle(s)! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is so handsome, and I love the significance of [name_m]Gus[/name_m] for you! [name_f][/name_f] I would love to meet a little [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m]. [name_f][/name_f] :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] If you decide on only one middle, I think [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] works just fine and I would not doubt it for a second. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Gus[/name_m] and [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] are such a lovely pairing!

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck!

I would use [name_m]Angus[/name_m] (Ev-an+gus)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]Angus[/name_m]
