Help me love Alice!

Hey berries!! [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is one of those names that fits all my criteria (cute, feminine, vintage) but I just can’t seem to love. I adore [name_f]Queen[/name_f] Victoria’s daughter, [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland, but I’m just not sold yet.

So what do you all think? Why do you like (or dislike) [name_f]Alice[/name_f]? Namesakes? Middles? Siblings?

I’ve always thought [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are absolutely perfect together, but I just don’t love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as much as I love [name_f]Clara[/name_f].

Tysm for reading :heart::heart:

Reasons I enjoy [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as a name:

  • It has a strong but sweet vibe - it’s so solid but light and bright too
  • It’s classic but not clunky/dated
  • Familiar and well used, but not overdone
  • Nickname potential but also not one that would be immediately shortened (Allie, [name_f]Lissy[/name_f], [name_u]Ice[/name_u], [name_u]Issy[/name_u], [name_f]Icy[/name_f], [name_m]Al[/name_m] could make it versatile)
  • It feels like a name that could suit a lot of different people - it doesn’t feel tied to any particular type of person
  • Literary (Alice in Wonderland, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Walker[/name_u]

For middles, I’d do:

  • [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]

Ooh I adore [name_f]Alice[/name_f], she has such a sweet crisp gentle sound! I think she hits a great balance - elegant and feminine without being frilly or fussy. She’s also one of the most timeless names - I don’t associate her with any generation, and there have been Alices in so many periods of history. I’ve known some absolutely lovely ones, so I may be a little biased, but it’s a name I associate with several gorgeous young women. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite nicknames are Liss and [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] - I’m not so keen on [name_u]Ali[/name_u] - but it doesn’t feel like a name requiring a nickname.
For middles -
• [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
• [name_f]Alice[/name_f] Coppélia
• [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Frederica[/name_f]
• [name_f]Alice[/name_f] Violet/Alice [name_f]Violeta[/name_f]
• [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
• [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
• [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Maude[/name_f]
• [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]
• [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]

I adore [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], as suggested by @Greyblue! Of her suggestion I also looove [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].

Siblings -
I agree [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are perfect siblings! They just belong together. I also like:

I am sorry but I am not an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] lover or [name_u]Allison[/name_u]. I do like [name_u]Allie[/name_u] though. I do love [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Claire[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] so much I gave it to one of my daughters as a middle name (it would’ve been a first, except that it’s too rhymey with my son’s name!) It’s also a family name for us.

As others have said, it’s soft, sweet, and timeless. It’s pretty and feminine, but not super frilly. It’s easy to say and spell. It suits everyone from darling baby girls to rebellious teenagers to lovely grandmothers. It’s smart and sophisticated, but also friendly and not pretentious.

I like [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. It’s pretty and classic but there aren’t three of them in every class or anything. It can be great as a first or a middle.

But you can’t force yourself to love a name you don’t love. Sometimes it just… doesn’t feel right for whatever reason. Some other names that go well with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are:

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a timeless classic, well-known, but not excessively popular. It means noble and has many excellent literary name bearers. It does not immediately attract a nickname but there are options if you or she would like to use one. I particularly like [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] for that. I don’t think you could go wrong with [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. It’s perfection in a name.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is beautiful! I love the classic simplicity of it. It feels vintage but not old lady. I don’t picture my grandma being called [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I picture it as youthful but classy. It’s very feminine without the overused A ending. It’s easy to spell and easy to say. Most people will have heard the name [name_f]Alice[/name_f] before, so you won’t have to be repeating yourself or spelling it.

I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are perfect combination! They have a similar feel and style to them without being over matchy. Honestly, it’s perfect.

Not sure Clara’s middle name, but for [name_f]Alice[/name_f] I like…
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Willow[/name_u]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is super sweet - I became even more of a fan after finding out how it is said in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] (something like ah-LEE-see). Such a shame it’s not said like that here haha. I don’t think I’d use her myself, although I’ve always been partial to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] Olivia/Alice [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. I also like the [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Coppelia[/name_f] that was mentioned; [name_f]Coppelia[/name_f] is such an interesting name!

Although… why do you feel the need to be talked into it? It does have a lot of lovely associations, but there’s thousands of names out there and if you have to be talked into it… maybe it’s just not for you? I’ve found that related names [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], and even Adeline/Adeliza mean much more to me personally; I would much prefer to have an [name_f]Adele[/name_f] or an [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] than force myself into picking [name_f]Alice[/name_f] (even though sunny [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] does always make me smile). [name_f]Alice[/name_f] for me is one of those names that I’d be tickled if my friend or sister used, but I don’t feel the need to use it myself. I used to make these posts for years - help me love [name_m]Linus[/name_m]! help me love [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! help me love XXXXX… I just came to realize I wanted to love them, but they’re just not for me. And that’s ok. I can admire and appreciate a name but not feel the need to hold every name close. But if there’s a reason to love [name_f]Alice[/name_f], other than appreciating some references… that’s ok, too, but I don’t think I’d try to force myself into using any name anymore.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are a nice pairing! But tbh, I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] much better with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] - new a family on another baby name site who had twins named [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and I always thought they were a perfect pairing. [name_u]Or[/name_u] even [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - so sweet together! [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a lovely name; I would opt for [name_f]Alice[/name_f] + [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] + [name_f]Clara[/name_f] myself; [name_f]Alice[/name_f] feels more vintagy and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] more modern storybook to me.

Either way, good luck
