Almost two years ago (!), our youngest, [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m], was born. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband chose the first name, and while I was more than happy to give him his first choice, [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] (solely as a name) was and is still on the neutral/dislike end of the spectrum for me. But I want to love it! So, I’ve been trying to find things about it that I really like, bits and bobs here and there that will help me view the name more favorably. Don’t get me wrong, at this point, I love the name because it’s my son’s name, and I can’t imagine him as anything else. However, as a name nerd, I want to love the name as a name, not because of who it’s associated with.
Here’s what I’ve got so far:
- [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] fits in with the type of names I tend to like - not unheard of, not “weird,” but the child probably wouldn’t meet another with that name
- [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] was born at the beginning of [name_u]December[/name_u], and as a [name_u]Christian[/name_u], I like the liturgical seasonality of his name (Jesse tree)
- I love that my husband got a name that he adores. Would I have ever picked it? No. But I’d rather our kids’ names be full of life and flavor and have one parent love it, rather than picking a compromise name that is just a bland middle ground we can both agree on.
- [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] is a “real” name, something that is important to me personally
Would you help me out? What else is there to love about [name_u]Jesse[/name_u]?
