I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is a lovely name & I can see myself truly loving it. However, I’m not there yet. For some reason I am really averse to names beginning with “Hay-” because of the repetition when someone says “Hey,” to that person i.e.:“Hey, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]!”
I like this name for a future daughter, I just need some help falling truly in love with it! appreciate your help, Berries!
I hope I can help, because I adore [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]! It’s strong and funky and a little bit retro. Unmistakably feminine but not super conventional about it — I love its strong, clear sounds and consonant ending. And a Z is always fun!
On the “Hey, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]!” thing: I have an [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] (ah-NOOK), and she’s my youngest child. I had a real fixation when we were choosing a name that the unstressed A at the beginning would sound weird after “and” — as in “Child 1, Child 2 and [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]”. I overthought it and almost talked my way out of using it, but I’m so glad I didn’t! It is really, really not an issue IRL.
I feel like “Hey, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]!” is similar — it feels like more of a problem when you’re thinking about it theoretically. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_u]Hayden[/name_u], [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] all start with this sound and they are all popular names, so it can’t be causing these people too much trouble!
I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is fab, I hope you fall for it
Hazel is one of those names that is just objectively gorgeous! It’s earthy but common and sweet. It could fit sooo many personalities that it doesn’t even need a nickname (which is awesome).
I worried about [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (one of my faves) for the heavy FEE sound at the beginning but it’s stuck on the list for similar reasons. I say fall in love! It’s worth it. Such a beautiful name.
It is a lovely color for eyes.
There’s an old TV show about a comedic maid called [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. I’ve not yet seen the program, but somehow this adds to its charm to me.
I associate it with hazel trees or shrubs in a kind of magical, Celtic way.
I love love love z sounds in names.
