Does anyone have a name that you want to love but don’t? Mine is [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]. DH likes it and it would be a great way to honor my mom ([name_f]Sarah[/name_f]) who passed away. I just don’t love it though! It reminds me of [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] Hawkins dances and 50’s poodle skirts for some reason. It also feels kind of country to me but I’m not sure why. Those of you that like this name…what are the reasons why?
I think in order to like it you could either tweak the name a bit or find another meaning for it. The meaning of the name [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] is [name_f]Princess[/name_f]

Also try changing to [name_f]Sada[/name_f] or [name_f]Shadae[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought.
I also think [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] is very 50’s, but that’s its charm. Some people love names like [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]. If you don’t like it, then just keep looking. You might have regrets if you force yourself to think you like it.
What’s not to love? I think [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] is fantastic. It is sweet, vintage, feminine. I know an adorable little [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]. [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] is also lovely and you could use that or [name_f]Sally[/name_f].
Hmm, I like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] by association. All of the ones I have met have been very sweet and extremely intelligent, so I think that’s helped me warm up to the name. It is a very sweet, cutesy name, so if that’s not your style, you’ll probably never really warm up to it. I don’t find it a “country” name though; all of the Sadies I know have lived in big cities. Perhaps you can use [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], and your DH can use [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]? It seems like the name doesn’t necessarily inspire hatred in you, you just don’t care for it, in which case she can use the name with others and not irk you.
I don’t necessarily like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] but just thought I’d contribute by saying-
- [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] has a sweet vintage charm
- maybe you could use it as a middle name
- maybe you could find another variation or name similar to [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] to honor your mom (like [name_f]Zara[/name_f])
I like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]. It’s sweet and spunky. I can picture it on a little girl, but it’s not so saccharin that I can’t picture [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] at age 45 or 73.
You could also use [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]. [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] has a different meaning than [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], but I think using an honoring nickname is enough.
I would use [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] but I feel kind of weird about calling my daughter my mom’s name, if you know what I mean. Plus I have another relative named [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] as it is…I don’t care for [name_f]Sally[/name_f] and [name_f]Zara[/name_f] just reminds me of the clothing store unfortunately. I like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], but I really want to love it. Thanks for the feedback though! More ideas welcome!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Surya[/name_f], or [name_f]Sabine[/name_f]? You could give the child your mom’s initials (incl. a double middle to get all three in, if you wish).
I like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]; it feels smart and just a tad rebellious to me. But I can’t get over its meaning - [name_f]Princess[/name_f].
