Help me make a boy list from my girl list

Right now, I have lots of girls names that I absolutely love, but I am not as excited about many boy names. I was wondering what boys names you all think I would like based my taste in girl names.

My current top girl names:
[name]Charlotte[/name]: loved since I was a child; definitely will use if I have a daughter despite its recent increase in popularity
[name]Josephine[/name]: newer love; 2nd place to [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] or [name]Celia[/name]: love both; can’t decide which one I prefer!
[name]Eloise[/name] or [name]Louise[/name] or [name]Louisa[/name]: love all these; can’t decide!
[name]Clara[/name]: so sweet, soft, and feminine
[name]Rose[/name]: and its variants – [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], etc – but I think I like sweet and simple [name]Rose[/name] the best!
[name]Cora[/name]: strong and feminine at the same time
[name]Nora[/name]: similar feeling to [name]Cora[/name], but I like [name]Cora[/name] a little better
[name]Eliza[/name]: can’t decide if I would use as a stand alone name or as a nickname to [name]Elizabeth[/name], but I love, love, love [name]Eliza[/name]! Might be tied with [name]Josephine[/name] for second favorite

My much shorter list of current boy name crushes:
[name]Julian[/name]: I think my favorite right now, but I’m unsure
[name]August[/name]: does this go with my girl names? what do you all think of the nn [name]Gus[/name]?
[name]Max[/name]: so cute and classic, but perhaps boring/overused?
[name]Arthur[/name]: I love, but hubby hates :frowning:

I’d love to hear some new boy name ideas! And any other feedback on my names is welcome, too!

To me, [name]August[/name] seems very contemporary and cries out for a contemporary sister, but I think that is just my take. I think one can make a case that [name]August[/name] has some roots and might do well planted beside a [name]Cora[/name]. I think [name]Gus[/name] is very cute – established yet fresn.
I adore [name]Max[/name], too, and know just what you mean when you wonder if it too trendy, popular.
From your girls’ list I would suggest the obvious –
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Eliot[/name]

Also, what do you think of [name]Emerson[/name]? I know it has been used by the girls lately, but I think it still has plenty of boy power.

Good suggestion…I do like [name]Emerson[/name]. My immediate association is the poet [name]Ralph[/name] [name]Waldo[/name] [name]Emerson[/name], so I see it as a sophisticated, masculine name. Unfortunately, I think it would rhyme too much with our last name.

I actually have opposite feelings about [name]August[/name]…I know it’s becoming a little more common now, but I worried it sounded too ancient, like [name]Julius[/name] [name]Caesar[/name] time period! I like that you pulled out [name]Cora[/name] as a sister for [name]August[/name]…I’m loving [name]August[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] together!

[name]Charles[/name] and [name]Joseph[/name] are great names, but I would never use them because they would rule out [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]! I think [name]Josiah[/name] is a little too biblical for me. I really like [name]Eliot[/name] (it’s been on and off of my list using the [name]Elliot[/name] spelling), but we have close family friends with this last name, so I would feel a little awkward using it…maybe not a deal breaker though!

[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Matthias[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Rhett[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name]
[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Benedict[/name]
[name]Grey[/name]
[name]Ossian[/name]
[name]Cyprian[/name]
[name]Caspian[/name]
[name]Japheth[/name]
[name]Raphael[/name]
[name]Killian[/name]
[name]Bram[/name]
[name]Heathcliff[/name]
[name]Virgil[/name]
[name]Homer[/name]
[name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Noel[/name]
[name]Adrian[/name]
[name]Seamus[/name]
[name]Leander[/name]
[name]Rome[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Philip[/name]

Well, you tend to like the classics, so I would just be throwing out names that you have undoubtedly heard before, but maybe if I do a little editorializing, that would be more helpful.

[name]James[/name]: Strong, sweet, and stalwart, this is a swooner of a short, formal name. It feels buttoned up, but it’s so short and usable. [name]Jem[/name] is a great nickname reminiscent of To Kill a Mockingbird. If you’re American, most of our founding fathers were named [name]James[/name].

[name]Adrian[/name]: A bit off beat, but still classic. I first came to like it when reading a [name]Mary[/name] [name]Shelley[/name] novel. My only concrn is that it’s somewhat feminine, but I tend to like my male names on the softer side.

[name]Theo/name: As a kid I had a huge fictional crush on [name]Theo[/name] from The Westing Game. It’s sporty, sweet, and so smooth. [name]Theodore[/name] “[name]Laurie[/name]” [name]Laurence[/name] is also a great namesake.

[name]Everett[/name]: Sort of like [name]Eliot[/name], but with a cool “v.” It sounds fresh to me, but it’s actually pretty classic and was in the top 100 in 1900.

[name]Harrison[/name]: A surname name with a cool nickname ([name]Harry[/name]). It’s presidential and just plain cool.

[name]Caleb[/name]: Biblical, yes, but so sweet and cute. It doesn’t look obviously Biblical to me either. [name]Every[/name] time I hear of a [name]Caleb[/name] I think it’s a surprising, sweet, and fresh choice.

I love love love [name]Julian[/name] by the way. [name]Dorian[/name], [name]Adrian[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Elian[/name], [name]Finnian[/name], and [name]Lucian[/name] all have pretty similar feel/sound going on.

I love so many of the names on your list. [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Cecilia[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]August[/name], and max are all on my long list. I would definitely use [name]Julian[/name], but I already have a niece named [name]Juliana[/name].

I think [name]Elliot[/name] is a great addition to your list. As well as [name]Adrian[/name], [name]Jude[/name], and [name]Grey[/name].

My other suggestions would be-

[name]Colin[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]William[/name]/[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Holden[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Reed[/name]
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name]
[name]Declan[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Ellis[/name]
[name]Stellan[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name]
