Character Description: The narrator. Male, in his 30s-40s through the story. 6’2, broad shouldered, dark haired, wears scruff, some scars from odd jobs. Gruff and impatient, has a soft spot for kids - adopts a baby girl in his mid-30s. Was raised primarily by his much older brother. Employed but his work is sporadic and below his capabilities. Smokes cigarettes for the majority and has a cancer scare. Last name is [name_u]Shelby[/name_u].

Most kids his brother’s age like the popular names they hear on TV a lot, so I wouldn’t go for something too unusual for that time period unless there was a reason (for example, he named his brother after his favorite book/comic book character)
