Help me name my twins, please?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I’m pregnant with twins (hurray?:grimacing:). I don’t know their sexes, but they are not identical, so lots of options. I KNOW that there’s at least one girl. Don’t ask me how or why :sweat_smile:. So I’m looking for names for two girls, or one boy and one girl. (Imagine if I have two boys! I’ll look crazy).

Anyways. We already have a son. His name is A.tlas I.ver. His middle name is for my grandfather who’s middle name is [name_m]Ivar[/name_m]. I would like to do the same for the twins, but the names in my family are… hm. Not my style, I guess? In addition, I’m Norwegian and my partner is [name_m]Danish[/name_m], so my favourite names just doesn’t work. I swear they’d have names already if we lived in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking country (and my partner let me pick).

Mainly I’d love to honor my mom. Her name is [name_f]Laila[/name_f], which is very dated here. I don’t really like any of the other versions either, but if I had to choose I’d go with [name_f]Leila[/name_f]. It can also be a nod to the meaning of the name or literally anything to do with lions- which she loves.

So. On to the names.

We are thinking [name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] if they’re girls, but I don’t feel like they go together that well? They have totally different vibes and it’s not like it flies off the tongue. Does it need to? We will be saying their names together a lot, I guess?

I’f it’s a girl and a boy we’re thinking [name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_m]Ajax[/name_m]. Is it too similar to [name_u]Atlas[/name_u]?

For boys I’m mainly thinking [name_m]Evander[/name_m]. Then the girl will not be [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], of course.

Any ideas? I’m overthinking and feeling like this is just too big of a task. And I love love love my son’s name and I just feel like I won’t be able to nail it like that again.

As far as honoring your mom: I totally get it! [name_f]My[/name_f] mom’s name is dated here ( in the US) as well so I’m actually using a part of it in one of my daughter’s names (if we ever have a girl! We don’t have any children yet.) So how about something your mom loves or something you like to do together or have fond memories of? For example, if her favorite book’s main character was [name_u]Anne[/name_u] and she read it to you as a child, you could consider that (just an example.)

[name_f]Leola[/name_f] or [name_f]Liona[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonia[/name_f] could work potentially?

I do not think [name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] are undoable for twin names!

[name_m]Ajax[/name_m] is a little too similar to [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] for my liking but I don’t think it is undoable.

I think [name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] work!! Both have strength and sparkle, with a bit of magic, but they also hold their own too!

In terms of boys, [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] and At.las are too similar to me, I’m afraid!

I don’t mind [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] and [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] together, but think I prefer [name_m]Evander[/name_m]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Petra[/name_f]. I’ve never been particularly fond of [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], but I think it’s fine paired with [name_f]Petra[/name_f].

A couple more names with links to lions: [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] (means [name_m]Lion[/name_m] of God) or [name_f]Nemea[/name_f] (after the Nemean lion in Greek mythology)

[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lula[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f] were my first thoughts for an honour name for your mom.

I like [name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]. [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] and [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] are close but not too close. I personally wouldn’t do it. What about [name_m]Jarvis[/name_m]?

Big congrats!

I like Petra & Isolde, I think they sound fab together. You could otherwise use Phaedra & Isolde, or Phoebe & Isolde but Petra definitely works and visually looks really nice with Isolde. I’m not keen on Ajax with Atlas, unless it’s a theme (eg girl name, Arlo, Aster or Anya etc) - but I don’t like matchy-matchy for twins. How about Evander for a first?

Thank you so much for this thorough list! I really love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_u]Phaedra[/name_u], but [name_f]Petra[/name_f] is my partner’s pick, and I don’t see him switching it out. I have brought up [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] before, and it has gotten me nowhere :melting_face:

I love your honour suggestions. I’ll run them past my mom and see what see says. I could also use her actual name for a middle, of course. Maybe I’ll love it, because I love her.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m], you really get me! I’ve brought up [name_u]Orion[/name_u] a million times, but my partner - hates - it. Not dislikes, hates. I could cry. He’s literally said “anything but that”. What a total fool.

[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is my all time favourite name. If we lived in a place where people could pronounce it, I’d use it in a heart beat. I’m not kidding. But just imagining the way people with butcher it gives me chills.

I also love [name_u]Echo[/name_u] for a girl, but is it actually usable, you think?

For two girls I would choose [name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_f]Laila[/name_f] (don’t change the spelling it’s beautiful). They really compliment each other but stand and shine on their own. All middles are great and would work.

I do think [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] and [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] are too close. Other suggestions for boys:

I love your sons name. I also like your other ideas. Personally I think [name_f]Petra[/name_f] & [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] work wonderfully together they feel magical, sparkly and strong. [name_u]Wonderful[/name_u] pairing I would definitely go with this if it was me. Regarding honouring your mother I love [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Leila[/name_f] would be very pretty. If you’re not sure on using [name_f]Leila[/name_f] you could go down the lion route to honour your mum I love the idea of [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_u]Arielle[/name_u] or [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Leontine[/name_f]. Looking at middle names for [name_f]Petra[/name_f] I think [name_f]Liliane[/name_f] works wonders that’s very pretty.

I think [name_f]Petra[/name_f] & [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] are very sparkly, powerful duo however I do feel that [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] is similar to your son’s name. If it was me I wouldn’t use [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] however it also depends on how much love you have for [name_m]Ajax[/name_m]. It’s a privilege naming a child so if your head over heels for [name_m]Ajax[/name_m] go for him. It’s just personal opinion after all.
[name_m]Evander[/name_m] is very handsome! I love [name_m]Evander[/name_m] would you consider him as a first name? I prefer [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] & [name_m]Evander[/name_m] as a pairing they are very romantic. However I’m assuming [name_f]Petra[/name_f] is your favourite name for a girl. I do think [name_f]Petra[/name_f] & [name_m]Evander[/name_m] work but just do not have the same romance as [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] & [name_m]Evander[/name_m].

Isolde is such a dream of a name - honestly, if I could name my daughter Isolde, I’d consider my life successfully lived! :smile::star_struck: I think Petra and Isolde go together rather well, I just absolutely prefer Isolde. Orion and Atlas / Evander and Atlas would be so-so cool! Them Scandinavian men are such difficult creatures (I have one too :sweat_smile:)! I told mine that women should have the right to name the baby since men are not the ones doing the pushing :smile::muscle:t2:
