So I have a 3 week old dear little baby boy born [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]'s day… still without a name !
(poor bear !)
But I’m just really struggling to decide what to call him !
He has a 6 year old brother named [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] with whom I had no trouble naming whatsoever ( as it’s my favourire boy’s name)
I’m looking for something with a romantic link and I do like names with lovely meanings. Also something a little different but not too faddy/celeb…that can be shortened and something that stands up to [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m].
So … my short list is…
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] ( [name_m]Raffy[/name_m]/[name_u]Rafe[/name_u])
[name_m]Rafael[/name_m] ([name_m]Raffy[/name_m]/[name_u]Rafe[/name_u]) - son’s favourite (Also an archangel like [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m])
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Teddy[/name_u]/Ted/bear) Means gift of god… and is saintly
[name_m]Roman[/name_m] ([name_m]Romey[/name_m]/[name_m]Rome[/name_m]/[name_m]Manny[/name_m]) Valentines was a roman festival.
[name_m]Romeo[/name_m] ([name_m]Romey[/name_m]/[name_m]Rome[/name_m]/[name_m]Manny[/name_m]) obvious valentine link… but maybe too obvious !
Middle names - Would like to use [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_m]Melvyn[/name_m] or both… (Mine and partner’s Dads)
And/or maybe a combination with the first names that don’t get chosen.
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] would be great with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. I really like the nickname [name_f]Rafa[/name_f]. Like [name_m]Raffy[/name_m] too but think I’d go for [name_f]Rafa[/name_f]. Not a fan of [name_u]Rafe[/name_u]. [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]/[name_m]Rafael[/name_m] for a swarthy kid.
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is a bit much - maybe [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] Ted? Maybe [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]? Or of course [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_m]Melvyn[/name_m] - both really nicely matched.
I really like [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] for you. It appeals in a lot of the ways [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] does and the fact that your other son likes it would make it really special. My second choice for you would be [name_m]Roman[/name_m].
I love [name_m]Roman[/name_m]. Strong, direct, would suit a boy of any demeanour. And such a handsome man’s name. Short for Romance and Romantic I think this ticks many boxes and sounds great with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m].
My next choice would be your sons fave [name_m]Raphael[/name_m].
Have you considered [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] as a middle? I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] would be sweet.
I love [name_u]Rafe[/name_u]!! I think it’s sweet and cool (and underused!), and I love the meaning. I prefer [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], but [name_m]Rafael[/name_m] is also nice!
I also really love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Roman[/name_m].
I think all three names sound great with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]!
This sounds crazy but I actually think you should go with [name_m]Bear[/name_m]. It sounds super sweet and definitely has the valentines day connection. Plus [name_m]Bear[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Melvyn[/name_m] is adorable
Lots of good names to chose from! My favorites are [name_m]Roman[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]) and [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]. I also like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] for a middle. [name_f]Happy[/name_f] Choosing!
I love your choices! I’d probably just caution against [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m] as nicknames if you’re trying to avoid anything too “celeb” or “of the moment” - both strike me as extremely trendy (in the UK) at the moment and have been used by quite a few celebrities of late.
[name_m]Rafael[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] feel like a natural pairing, and I love [name_m]Raffy[/name_m] and [name_u]Rafe[/name_u]. [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] and [name_m]Roman[/name_m] are also gorgeous!
I just wanted to add a just for fun/just in case suggestion which may appeal to you: [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. You’ve mentioned that you’re finding it an impossible task to name him… Well, St. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is the patron saint of the impossible! I think it’s a lovely name and a fun connection, and you could go wild with a romance-themed name in the middle:
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Rafael[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Romeo[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (also means “gift of god”)
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Caradoc[/name_m] (“beloved”)
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Amias[/name_m] (“loved”)
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] (variant of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] which may also mean “heart”)
