Please help me narrow down my list. What are your favourite names? What names would you avoid? What is your opinions on these names? Open to suggestions :). Thank you!
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_u]Everly[/name_u], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] are my favorites! I like [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], but prefer the [name_f]Siena[/name_f] spelling, for some reason. And Arienne is really nice–I know of a little one, actually!–but I personally prefer [name_f]Arianne[/name_f].
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Charity[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u] (although I like it better on a boy)
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
For me, [name_f]Evanna[/name_f] is pretty strongly linked to one person ([name_f]Evanna[/name_f] [name_m]Lynch[/name_m]) and I wouldn’t use it for that reason. I’m not a fan of nicknames as full names, like [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Peggy[/name_f], but [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]/[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] with those nicknames are fine. I also dislike [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] - I think there are nicer botanical names out there, for one, and tansy tea was historically used as an abortifacient because it’s highly poisonous. Not the best association ever.
I have fallen in love with these names you’ve picked;
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
[name_f]Lara[/name_f] This is my cousins name, and to be honest If she was not named that I properly would of used this myself.
Favorites:
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (but I think it will get shortened)
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
Like:
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] (maybe too cutesy for an adult)
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] (I prefer [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] since it’s more familiar)
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] (I like it but worry it will sound dated in a few years)
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like:
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] (overly girly and prissy. What if she is a tomboy?)
Arienne (personally not a fan of Ar- names, [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], [name_f]Arianna[/name_f])
[name_f]Charity[/name_f] (a little dated to me)
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] (it’s fine, just a little too modern for me)
[name_u]Ever[/name_u] (same)
[name_f]Evanna[/name_f] (too unfamiliar)
[name_f]Peggy[/name_f] (know too many older ladies with this name)
[name_f]Ginger[/name_f] (has a stripper connotation for me for some reason but I see the appeal)
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] (too cutesy)
[name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] (way too cutesy, too close to blue balls, also the ice cream with a cow on it)
[name_f]Lara[/name_f] (dated)
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] (too harsh)
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] (too modern)
I also like: [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], [name_f]Peggy[/name_f], [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Summer[/name_f], [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] (but only as a middle), [name_f]Ginger[/name_f], [name_f]Peggy[/name_f], [name_f]Lara[/name_f].
I would avoid these:
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] (very fussy, would suit only a few people, I’m strongly influenced by knowing a [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] who -with great relief - changed her name)
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_u]Ever[/name_u]
[name_f]Evanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] (over-used in the past -know several in their 30’s, lost any charm for me)
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] (over-used
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] - [name_f]Do[/name_f] not like the ‘prim’ part of the name
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] - makes me think of tansy tea which was used to abort
[name_f]Peggy[/name_f] - [name_f]Peg[/name_f] doesn’t seem attractive to me
[name_f]Ginger[/name_f] - just not my style
[name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] - I would only use this as a middle name personally
Likes:
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u] the sound & meaning; prefer the spelling [name_f]Silvie[/name_f].
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u] the sound & meaning; [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Barton[/name_m] was one of my childhood heroines.
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]: This isn’t my usual style but for some reason I really like it; I’d probably use [name_u]Tavi[/name_u] or [name_f]Tavia[/name_f] on a daily basis.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: [name_m]How[/name_m] can you go wrong w/[name_u]Jo[/name_u] [name_u]March[/name_u] from [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women?
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]: My favorite season of the year.
Arienne: Unusual & pretty…you might have to deal w/a lot of people mistaking it for [name_f]Arianne[/name_f]/[name_f]Arianna[/name_f]/[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]/etc.
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]: My second-favorite season.
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f]: I like it because it’s semi common in the British literature I’ve read & the sound is spritely; it would probably be a GP in the US though.
[name_f]Ginger[/name_f]: I wouldn’t use this on the birth certificate, but love it as a nn for [name_f]Virginia[/name_f].
Meh:
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]: It sound silly, but I don’t care for how a capital G looks. The sound is very pretty…if I were to use this name I’d spell it Jenneveve.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]: I probably like this better as a middle name.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]: I like it well enough, but not enough to consider using it myself. [name_f]Flick[/name_f] is a cute nn though.
[name_f]Lara[/name_f]: I prefer [name_f]Larissa[/name_f] or [name_f]Laurel[/name_f].
[name_f]Charity[/name_f]: It’s a nice virtue name, but [name_f]IMO[/name_f] a bit old-fashioned…very Dickens-like to me.
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]: I don’t have any strong feelings about it one way or the other, but wouldn’t use it myself.
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]: It’s got a pleasant sound & nice meaning; if I were to use it it would probably be in the middle & spelled [name_u]Saige[/name_u].
[name_m]Don[/name_m]‘t care for:
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]: I’m old enough that all I think of is the [name_m]Borden[/name_m] cow.
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]: Reminiscent of The Hunger Games, which is probably a plus for some people.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]: This is one of the few [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-names that I don’t like but I can’t put my finger on why.
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]: I think of the Biblical story & the evening radio show host.
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]: The name seems middle-aged to me (I have a number of Heidis in my age group) & not ready for a comeback yet.
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]: Too trendy.
[name_u]Ever[/name_u]: Too trendy.
[name_f]Evanna[/name_f]: Too similar in sound to [name_f]Ivana[/name_f]/[name_f]Ivanka[/name_f].
[name_f]Peggy[/name_f]: This name’s too reminiscent of my mom’s or even grandmothers’ generations.
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]: There was an unpleasant character in a children’s book named [name_f]Clover[/name_f] & it soured me on the name at a young age.
[name_f]Bluebell[/name_f]: Pretty image, but too unusual for me, even as a middle name.
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]: I can’t get past the meaning of the name—lame.
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]: My daughter had a classmate named [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], who wasn’t the nicest person.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]: [name_m]Even[/name_m] w/[name_f]Ada[/name_f] Lovelace as a great namesake, I just don’t care for the name…I think it’s the sound that I don’t like.

[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]

[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] - adorable. [name_m]Favorite[/name_m] usage I’ve heard of is [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] Otter, daughter of [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] Deschanel
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] - have yet to see on real baby. Beautiful imagery, but would I want this as my own name? Not sure I would be up to the “Prim” comments?
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - have always liked, especially paired with something that softens its edges. so much nn potential. makes me think of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]March[/name_u]
Arienne - dislike, only because it doesn’t seem to have substance to me (?) I can’t mentally separate it from similar [name_f]Adrienne[/name_f], [name_f]Adrianna[/name_f], [name_f]Audriana[/name_f], etc.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - one of my favorite names esp. w/ [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] - has never been a fave - I think I have the reaction to it that some people do to [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], as a rather backward country name, a name for a pet animal etc. Personally I love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - but I haven’t been converted on [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] yet!
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - my favorite name. hands down.
[name_f]Charity[/name_f] - bad association
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] - love the sound of it, but can’t get past the Bible story
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] - another favorite. So cute on a baby, so elegant on a woman.
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] - Cute, but dated, to me.
[name_u]Sage[/name_u] - Like as a middle name, but in most combos somehow strikes me as…blah?
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] - Not a big fan. Strikes me as trendy, not in a good way.
[name_u]Ever[/name_u] - a bit better than [name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_f]Evanna[/name_f] - unusual - I think I’m having a negative association with [name_f]Ivana[/name_f] Trump when I say it
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - love this
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - love the meaning, sadly just like the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f], it’s so dated to me - such an 80’s name
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] - not as outdated as [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] & [name_f]Summer[/name_f], but still doesn’t sound fresh to me anymore ;/
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] - see [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]!
[name_f]Peggy[/name_f] - dislike. I can see it as cute on a little hipster baby but I really don’t like “[name_f]Peg[/name_f]” & find [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] too close to Piggy
[name_f]Ginger[/name_f] - a bit dated? plus I can only see this word as meaning “red-head” now, so it would seem a bit too obvious on a red-head and a bit odd if she was not (?)
[name_f]Clover[/name_f] - I know this is a bit much, this little name, but I like it! I love memories of clover in warm hayfields in my childhood so it just has this sweet association to me.
[name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] - A guilty pleasure I still could never assign this to a child in the first name spot.
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f] - I go back & forth on this & [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. Currently thumbs down.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - love. so pretty & sweet. like much better than [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] - really like it.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - cute
[name_f]Lara[/name_f] - like but a bit…boring, without the right middle name(s)?
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] - fabulous, but overwhelming
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] - nice but doesn’t grab me
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] because they seem too outdated for my style, and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] will always remind me of the little Swiss girl. Also, I personally don’t like the [name_u]Ever[/name_u]/[name_u]Everly[/name_u] names because, for some weird reason, they remind me of all the sappy, teeny-bopper YA books that flooded the market a few years ago.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] favorites to me. Timeless, elegant, and easy to spell.
I don’t prefer [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] and [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]. Although I love botanical names, these feel too whimsical for a person. What if your daughter’s life ambition is to run a long distance freight company, will [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] fit in in that scene? I’m being glib, but I like a name with more versatility.
You had so many other lovely choices that I just chose my stand-outs.
