So, placing most emphasis on first name, then middle name, then how it flows with last name, please pick favorites. In other words please don’t get technical and use stilted naming “rules”. Please simply decide what you like the sound of and think a girl could be happy with in the USA.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] Satya Virma (if you don’t know how to pronounce hermione, well, gosh, it’s her-my-un-ee)
Mayani [name_f]Willow[/name_f] Virma (my-inee)
Also, are any of these too self indulgent for a baby girl growing up in the USA in your opinions? For example, I just like the name [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and don’t get in to [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. Mayani is a name I made up in homage, but it is based on sanskrit and legit as an indian name. I’m American of European descent and DH is from [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_f]India[/name_f]. Coming up with names is not easy and several of these are sanskrit.
Thanks, ironically those are my two favorites this week also:-) DH likes Mayuri the best for sure, but I am still attached to [name_f]Diana[/name_f] Lorien so it might be the one also. His grandmother’s name was Satya but I don’t think it flows with Virma or the other names.
I like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilou[/name_f] best. After that, Mayani, then Mayuri The only one I don’t like is [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. It just seems dull in comparison.
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] Lorien, Mayuri [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], Mayani Wlillow are my favorites. You will be constantly asked about [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] in relation to [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilou[/name_f] sounds “off” to me. If I were to pick one it would be Mayani [name_f]Willow[/name_f] because it seems more exotic than [name_f]Diana[/name_f] but softer than Mayuri.
Tomaura, thanks for the input and it’s refreshing to see a challenge to the status quo in votes so far. I’d probably have given the same exact answer as you ten years ago.
[name_f]Lilou[/name_f] seems to me also to be missing an anchor and might not age well, but it’s so french and lovely I couldn’t resist. All the feedback is great and appreciated.
Allow me to mix and match here…[name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] sounds best with your last name and it is the easiest for a modern American girl to live with. : )
My vote is for [name_f]Diana[/name_f] Lorien. I know it’s the safest, but I really like the flow and the middle name, Lorien. [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is a beautiful name - can’t go wrong with a classic.
[name_f]Carla[/name_f], A lovely combo that I know DH will not go for. I have tried to use sanskrit/western names, with the exception of [name_f]Diana[/name_f] Lorien. My DS was born [name_f]April[/name_f] 16 and it’s a great time of year to have a baby, contrats!
Niteowl, I really just wasn’t sure about [name_f]Diana[/name_f] until I added Lorien; now it’s like the dreamiest, most regal name ever. I only wish DH were a bit happier with it; he’s stuck on Mayuri; also beautiful but lacking my sentimentality.
It still might come down to Mayuri and [name_f]Diana[/name_f].
Mayuri [name_u]Skye[/name_u] Virma (my-oo-ree) - I like Mayuri, sounds Japanese to me, not keen on [name_u]Skye[/name_u] too hippy or Virma. I don’t like the sound of two 2 syllable names after a 3 syllable name.
Mayuri [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Virma - Mayuri [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] sounds great, flow is better on this name than the above.
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] Karthayini Virma (kar-they-inee) This is fine if you consider that her middle names will hardly every be used or heard. Flow is fine not keen on the names.
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] Lorien Virma (Lorien is from Tolkien and YES I’m a huge fan) - [name_f]Diana[/name_f] Lorien is very pretty, Virma sounds fine after them.
[name_f]Lilou[/name_f] [name_f]Satyana[/name_f] Virma (leeloo) - Like [name_f]Lilou[/name_f] a lot, would follow with Mayuri though.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] Satya Virma (if you don’t know how to pronounce hermione, well, gosh, it’s her-my-un-ee) - I too like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], but HP was very big in the US, people are instantly going to quote HP - if you don’t mind this then go ahead.
Mayani [name_f]Willow[/name_f] Virma (my-inee) - [name_m]Don[/name_m]’'t like the flow or the names.
