I really love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and if you’re in the US, chances are you won’t find many Olivers around.
I don’t particularly like [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] or Kemper. [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is darling (and I love the nn [name_m]Dex[/name_m]) but I’m don’t like Cobain as a mn, feels like bad luck to me.
So my 2 choices are [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].
Thanks, Bonnielyn!
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is definately my favorite as well. And [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_u]Quin[/name_u] looks pretty great together. My only concern with [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is the US television show. It only just ended and it was SO popular. I’m afraid everyone will associate my child with a serial killer.
However, by the time he’s in school and making a social life for himself, no one will care about the show anymore. Anyway, thanks again for the input!
[name_m]Dex[/name_m] is cute, Im not a fan of Cobain. My nephew is [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] and every once in a while the show gets mentioned but most of the time its not assoiated with the show.
No contest, [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u]! I like [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], but Cobain makes me cringe and think of drug addicts.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u] is great! [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is my second choice.
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] Cobain - REALLY cool! Definitely would be the cool kid, never having trouble in the love department.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u]- It lacks personality to me.
Kemper [name_m]Fox[/name_m]- Again, really cool name. Kemper is really unique and [name_m]Fox[/name_m] puts a daring spin on it.
[name_m]Bastian[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]- Another cool name, another cool kid. I picture a confident guy carrying this name.
I voted for [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], Kemper, and [name_m]Bastian[/name_m].
If you’re not sure what to pair with Kemper, I think [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is really cool, but I can throw out some suggestions:
Kemper [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]
Kemper [name_u]Blaine[/name_u]
Kemper [name_u]Blake[/name_u]
Kemper [name_u]Blaise[/name_u]
Kemper [name_m]Drake[/name_m]
Kemper [name_u]Theo[/name_u]
Kemper [name_m]Miles[/name_m]
Kemper [name_m]Wes[/name_m]
Kemper [name_m]Thatch[/name_m]
Kemper Wilco
Kemper [name_m]Creed[/name_m]
Kemper [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]
Kemper [name_m]Otto[/name_m]
Kemper Cobain
Kemper [name_m]Floyd[/name_m]
Kemper [name_m]Axel[/name_m]
Kemper [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
Kemper [name_m]Declan[/name_m]
Kemper [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u] - very nice.
I like the sound of the suggested combination [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_u]Quin[/name_u], but if you’re concerned about associations with the tv show I’d avoid this pairing as there is another (quite main) character called Detective [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].
I love [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] (and gave him a vote) but don’t love Cobain–unless you are a die-hard [name_m]Kurt[/name_m] Cobain fan and this is very meaningful to you. Together they feel dark. I agree with the pp about [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_u]Quin[/name_u] though, this would make me think you were a die-hard [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] fan since [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] are two of the main characters.
So…I like [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] something… [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]?, [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u], and [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. Not a fan of Kemper.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u] for me.
I have an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], and I meet other Olivers ALL THE TIME now. I also have a [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], and like that more than [name_m]Bastian[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is more nerdy-cool, and so is [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]/[name_m]Bastian[/name_m] is just cool
I don’t think Kemper fits among the rest, at all, though.
1 [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u] - I think these two sound wonderful together.
2 [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - I prefer [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] but [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] is ok too.
3 [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_u]Quin[/name_u] - I would definitely drop the Cobain reference. A serial killer name with a life that ended in tragedy is just too dark an image.
4 Kemper - not feeling any love for this name
Edited for privacy.
I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. Not a big fan of Kemper and [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] (I prefer [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] though). Cobain? Hmm. Makes me think about [name_m]Kurt[/name_m] Cobain, and I’m guessing we all know what happened to him.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u] is sweet!
I like the suggestion of [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_u]Quin[/name_u], but of the ones you initially listed I like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u] the best.
Really don’t like Cobain for the reasons others mentioned–especially because it’s a double pop culture reference along with [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. However, even if the reference wasn’t there I’m not to keen on Cobain anyway.
Not a fan of Kemper, and while I’m assuming [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] is pronounced like the ending of [name_m]Sebastian/name_m, on its own it looks like it could be ‘Bass-tee-an’…it also visually is reminding me of baster like for meat…
Sorry if that’s offensive in some way, it’s just want comes to mind.
However, you said that [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is your favorite–so use that! I think without the Cobain reference on top of the TV reference it’s a fantastic option. Very cute, and [name_m]Dex[/name_m] is a great nn!
Also, there was a time when people would think of the cartoon [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]'s Laboratory (and, honestly, as someone who didn’t watch the killer show–this is still what I think of). Pop culture references change significantly, and pretty quickly, over time. I had a girl in my class growing up that got teased because her parents “named her after” The [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid…when in reality the movie had just come out and her name had obviously been [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] long before the movie. If someone named their daughter [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], she probably wouldn’t hear those comments unless she happened to be a redhead. People will make the connections they’re going to make. I wouldn’t let it sway what you name your child if you have a distinctly favorite contender. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my 2 cents
Thanks, everyone. Its helpful to have different non-bias perspectives.
I have the same concern with having two pop-culture type names. Cobain is a [name_m]Kurt[/name_m] Cobain thing and we like it for that reason. But [name_u]Dexter[/name_u], we only like the name, not the show. So, that’s why I’m a little hesitant. But I think by the time he starts school and having his own social experiences, people will have more or less forgotten about the show. I hope. But I am getting a little hesitant about the double celebrity association…
I’ve been getting a lot of feed back on [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], which has been my favorite [name_u]FOREVER[/name_u], but it’s a rapidly growing trend and I’m afraid he’s going to be the 100th [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] in his class, like my first son. I named him [name_m]Kadin[/name_m] because I thought it was original and he has to write his last initial to differentiate him from the other 3 Kadins in his class. And I hate it.
OH! And also, I learned that there is a TV character named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_f]Queen[/name_f] on a popular tv show. [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Quin[/name_u]/[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_f]Queen[/name_f]… sigh TV is making this way too difficult lol.
