Last night my husband and I narrowed down our fn choice to [name]Juniper[/name] for a girl. We both really love the name and the nickname choices-[name]June[/name], [name]Juni[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Perry[/name]. We think it’s a fun, modern sounding name that isn’t common but is a recognizable word to people. Our son’s name is [name]Tate[/name] and although I’m not sure if it matches his, I’ve kind of given up on trying so hard to do that. After all, it’s not like they’re going to spend their entire lives together. So I’m over the sib-set thing and I’ve decided I’m just going to go with a name I love.
Here’s where I do need some help though-choosing a mn. We have already decided that it will be a hawaiian name. I am half hawaiian and I have a hawaiian mn. My sister also has a hawaiian mn and so does her only daughter. I would like to continue the tradition. I have a couple names that I like but I would really appreciate some feedback on them and how they sound with [name]Juniper[/name]. Here goes:
[name]Juniper[/name] [name]Nalani[/name] [nah lah nee] means “calm”
[name]Juniper[/name] [name]Elika[/name] [Eh lee kah]-this is [name]Erica[/name] (my name) in hawaiian
[name]Juniper[/name] [name]Halia[/name] [Ha lee ah] I really like the meaning of this one -“remembrance of a loved one”-my dad (who was hawaiian) passed away 3 years ago.
[name]Juniper[/name] [name]Luana[/name] [loo on ah]-I like the meaning of this too-“cheerful”-also is the same meaning as my son’s fn
[name]Juniper[/name] [name]Noelani[/name] [no eh lah nee]-means “beautiful girl from heaven”
[name]Juniper[/name] Okalani [oh kah lah nee]- means “from heaven”
I know [name]Juniper[/name] should probably be paired with something more traditional and classic but I really want to give her a mn that is special and has meaning to me. If you’ve seen my other recent post, I was trying to do this by honoring my mother and [name]MIL[/name], but I don’t like either of their names. I feel like by using a hawaiian name, I won’t hurt anybody’s feelings this way. Also, it thrills me to have give her a hawaiian name that will link her to her heritage.
I look forward to the wonderful advice you all are so good at giving!
