I have a character in my fantasy novel I need to rename. She’s one of my MC’s and is currently named [name_f]Maelys[/name_f], but this is too similar in both spelling and pronunciation to another character she interacts with, and one of my beta readers said he had trouble telling them apart
So [name_f]Maelys[/name_f] is getting a new name! She’s from a [name_u]French[/name_u] inspired country - think flowers, [name_f]Spring[/name_f] and cottagecore. Her parents are [name_m]Marceau[/name_m] and [name_f]Canace[/name_f], her siblings are [name_f]Brielle[/name_f], Gervaine and [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f].

how do you feel about accent marks? I ask because in [name_u]French[/name_u], [name_f]Maelys[/name_f] would be spelled [name_f]Maëlys[/name_f], but since this is a French-inspired country, im not sure if you’re forgoing accents for ease.
I included accents, just in case. not all of these are unique in [name_u]France[/name_u] but I feel like they fit your vibe. for example, [name_f]Brielle[/name_f] is pronounceable in [name_u]French[/name_u], but it’s not a [name_u]French[/name_u] name.
