I’m having cold feet on the name we selected ([name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]). I love the name [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but it’s so similar to [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] (the #1 most popular name both nationwide and in my state) that I’m afraid she’ll get lumped in with the crowd. I’m still set on [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] for the middle, but I need some help thinking of a new first name. I’m open to ALL suggestions.
For reference, my husband and I agree on remarkably few girl names. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], and [name_f]Serena[/name_f] are the only three so far. Unfortunately, [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] has the [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] problem, one of our best friends named their daughter [name_f]Margot[/name_f] a few months ago, and neither of us loves [name_f]Serena[/name_f]. There have GOT to be names that we’re just overlooking.
Please help! Thank you.
ETA: Our son’s name is [name_m]Austin[/name_m] [name_u]Bradley[/name_u], in case that helps provide context.
Sorry, but [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] Sm1th sounds a bit generic to me. [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is beautiful though.
If you like [name_f]Serena[/name_f], what about [name_f]Selena[/name_f], [name_f]Selene[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] Sm1th sounds lovely and it has the Ser- of [name_f]Serena[/name_f] and the -phi- of [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. There are also [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f], Sofine, [name_f]Zofie[/name_f], Sofa but they are much more unusual.
Some other names I like with [name_m]Austin[/name_m]:
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] - nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f]
Here are some [name_f]Margot[/name_f] alternatives…
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_u]Marion[/name_u]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] or [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
And some [name_f]Serena[/name_f] alternatives (feminine and spunky)
I love [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and would use it regardless of popularity if it weren’t my niece’s name. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] instead? [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is very similar and just as sweet.
Or you could use [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] as the first name, nickname [name_f]Nola[/name_f].
We both love [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], but I’m not sure I could sell my husband on [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] as a first name. I’m definitely going to try though!
Keep the suggestions coming. I love what you’ve come up with so far. Other names I’ve thought of today include [name_f]Sara[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f], though I’m not in love with either.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestions of [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. Apologies for repeats!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Adair[/name_u]? [name_m]Austin[/name_m] and [name_u]Adair[/name_u] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]
or
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]
Perhaps [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] nicknamed “[name_f]Millie[/name_f]” would appeal to your husband? [name_f]Millie[/name_f] has the sweetness of [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is gorgeous. There is a reason names become popular. Personally I have never known a [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and only know one [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. I have lived in four different states and work with children and parents.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] all of those names, amydotnet. You definitely picked up on my style. Several of those already have been vetoed by DH, but I’m going to run some others past him.
What do you guys think of [name_f]Ella[/name_f]? I know it’s popular nationwide, but it’s not nearly as popular in my state. Plus, my husband’s dad is a jazz musician, and I was thinking that might a nice nod to his family. Is [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] too plain?
I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] because of is popularity and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] smith seems pretty generic, sorry! Other ideas that are similar are [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Della[/name_f] which I prefer. [name_m]Both[/name_m] fit with [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] but maybe [name_f]Della[/name_f] is better due to alliteration X
[name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like my suggestions, cmarygo147.
I quite like the sound of [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. It’s not very popular where I live and I don’t personally know of anyone with the name (the closest I know is a little girl named [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]). If you’re worried about [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] being too plain, then you could always have [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as a nickname for something a bit longer.
I love [name_f]Stella[/name_f], but for some reason I can’t get my husband on board. Plus, I think there’s a pretty decent chance that I’d make my daughter hate me by yelling “STELLLAAAAAAAAA!!!” constantly and then dissolving into a fit of giggles.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is a popular first name, and [name_m]Smith[/name_m] is a popular surname. I do love [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], though. Maybe [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]? I love the sound of [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]!
