So a couple nights ago I was brainstorming “tree inspired names” because I don’t have any on my list and trees are very important to me. I came up with this monster: Eucalypta. It would all be fine and dandy to have this name in a little “tree inspired names” section but the problem is I’m absolutely in love with it, and every time I say it I fall more in love (especially with the nn [name_f]Callie[/name_f].) I’ve even started imagining my future daughter with this name which means I really love it because I don’t like kids that much . I feel like this name would be heavily hated on which is the main reason I’m so hesitant to add it to my list. It just feels right. Eucalyptus trees are also super important to me and pretty much changed my life which is an added bonus. Please don’t be scared to leave me comments!!
The nn Callie

I don’t like it, but it makes the name more approachable

The usability of the name
It’s totally usable!!
It’s usable if you’re fine with all the repercussions
It’s not usable at all
It’s usable if you live on a hippie commune

Even if everyone hates it, I should still put it on my list if I love it
Honestly, I really like it! I don’t even know why I like it because it’s not the sort of name I’d normally warm to, but…Eucalypta is pretty fantastic!
I think it’s usable. It might meet with some raised eyebrows irl, but then so might a lot of names people are choosing nowadays. Besides, it has a boho feel, which is definitely in style atm.
I do think [name_f]Callie[/name_f] works and might make it more approachable irl, but I honestly prefer it without the nn. It’s really cool!
If you love it so much then yes, put it on your list! If it helps, a few years ago, I liked the name Eucalyptus— yes the full on tree name. (I only used it on a minor character though)
I think it is beautiful on a list and would make a lovely middle in real life especially since it’s so meaningful to you!
I LOVE the nickname [name_f]Callie[/name_f] though! (We’re planning to use it for our daughter as a nn for [name_f]Caledonia[/name_f].) And I also love unusual girls names and nature inspired names and I could see nature names becoming more popular in the next 5-10 years and that make it easier to use as a first name. The Ew sound is the only thing that puts me off, as far as teasing from other kids.
It does seem a bit out there to me, but so do Euphrasia, Euphrosyne, [name_f]Scholastica[/name_f], etc., that seem to be pretty well liked on here. I think the nn definitely helps, although I admit to preferring [name_f]Calla[/name_f] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] myself. I’m not a huge [name_f]Callie[/name_f] person. I don’t think I’d go for it if I got looks of horror from others if I mentioned it allowed, and it is too much for me personally, but that doesn’t mean it’s too much for you? Other berries seem to like it, but I feel like the average person would probably not get the appeal, so my instinct is to say no. Sorry! But clearly others don’t agree. If you hesitate, maybe use it for a middle? Something simple like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] Eucalypta might be nice?
I feel like its unusual and may turn a few heads but, overall I don’t think it’s going to stand out as profoundly as one might think. There are so many parents reaching for uncommon names right now (I personally know a [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Khaleesi[/name_f], and [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f]), that yes it might be odd but I don’t think it’s as unuseable and some might think! If you love it, I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with it and I quite like it!
