Help me with a family name!

I’m trying to come up with a second MN for [name]Leila[/name] ______ [name]Fleur[/name]. LN is fairly long, and starts with an “R”. I’m pretty passionate about honoring family in each combo, but the usual names I would use to honor family I don’t really like with [name]Leila[/name] and [name]Fleur[/name] ([name]Claire[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Giovanna[/name], [name]Maren[/name], [name]Noelle[/name], and [name]Rebecca[/name]).

I’m not a huge fan of the family names themselves ([name]Arlene[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Karen[/name] [name]Arlene[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Robert[/name], [name]Rebecca[/name] [name]Eileen[/name], [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Ruth[/name], [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Mae[/name], and the initials LB for my grandfather–we don’t know what his real name was!), but I would love to honor them all in some way. Besides using names derived from their actual names, I’ve toyed around with birthstones ([name]Opal[/name] and [name]Pearl[/name] I like), bird names for my grandmother ([name]Wren[/name] and [name]Lark[/name]), and purple names ([name]Violet[/name]) for my grandmother. Any ideas?

Thanks!
[name]Ash[/name]

What does everyone think of [name]Leila[/name] [name]Johanna[/name] [name]Fleur[/name]? It’s the one option I keep coming back to that I think I could REALLY love. My only problem is that I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Hannah[/name] as a FN, too, and I couldn’t use [name]Leila[/name] [name]Johanna[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name] ____ ___.

[name]Leila[/name] [name]Johannah[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] is lovely! Funny you have the [name]Johannah[/name] - [name]Hannah[/name] issue (well, not funny, but you know…) cause I want to use [name]Johannah[/name] to honor my sister [name]Hannah[/name]. I don’t think it’s an issue - [name]Johannah[/name] is in the middle and wont be said everyday.

If it makes you feel better, my uncles name is [name]James[/name] and my dads name is [name]Kenneth[/name] [name]James[/name]…their brothers. They didnt think my dad would live, so they gave him his brothers middle name. Now my parents share a property (separate houses, same property, so they see each other everyday) with her brother, whose name is [name]Kenneth[/name], and my dad is [name]Kenneth[/name]…what makes it worse is that my dads call my uncle “Uncle [name]Ken[/name]” and my uncles kids call my dad “Uncle [name]Ken[/name]”…highly confusing. My mom will talk about “ken”, and I’m always like “my dad or my uncle?”

So needless to say, when searching for a husband, I try to avoid men named [name]Ken[/name]. For the sake of sanity…

lol! My family’s kinda the same way with [name]Ashley[/name], except it’s not so obvious. I’m [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Marie[/name], my uncle is [name]Bruce[/name] [name]Ashley[/name], and his brother is [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Bruce[/name]! [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Bruce[/name] goes by [name]Lee[/name], though. So everyone calls us [name]Ashley[/name]/[name]Ash[/name], [name]Bruce[/name], and [name]Lee[/name], so it’s not so bad at all, haha.

O_O You have male [name]Ashley[/name]'s in your family!? And it’s paired with [name]Bruce[/name]!?

I’m jealous. Thats amazing.

Yes, I do! lol. I think [name]Ashley[/name]'s pretty stunning for a boy. (And how awesome is [name]Ash[/name] on a boy?!) Which makes me disappointed that I wasn’t [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Lily[/name] or something. lol. I wonder if it’s a Canadian/Scottish thing? That side of the family is from [name]Nova[/name] [name]Scotia[/name], I believe, but they have Scottish roots.

I think [name]Ashley[/name] on a boy is fantastic! I wish it had stayed masculine in the US. I think my mom almost hit the tail end of the [name]Ashley[/name] craze with my younger sister (whose 19 now), but realized that she already knew several other female [name]Ashley[/name]'s, so she went with [name]Breanna[/name]. Look on the bright side, though - at least it’s a family name for you, and you could always justify putting it in the middle (or the front if it wouldn’t cause confusion) for a boy! Growing up, I had always wished my mother had named me after her grandmother - [name]Ruby[/name]. Now I’m not so sure, haha - cause then I couldn’t have used it.

What about [name]Leila[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] for your grandfather?

I do apologize for barging into this conversation, but I have an uncle [name]Ashley[/name] in [name]Nova[/name] [name]Scotia[/name], and I know 3 male Scottish Ashleys ([name]Ashley[/name] is far more masculine in the UK in general than it is in the US). Maybe it is something to do with that, particularly as [name]Nova[/name] [name]Scotia[/name] means ‘New [name]Scotland[/name]’.

Anyway, I think [name]Leila[/name] [name]Johanna[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] is very pretty indeed. I don’t think the [name]Hannah[/name]/[name]Johanna[/name] thing is too much of a problem. I know a [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Marie[/name], who’s sister is a [name]Maria[/name]. Middle names are rarely used in most families, and I think it’s a nice connection for them to share.

lol, I can’t believe I didn’t even think of being able to use L.B. for [name]Leila[/name]! Someone had suggested [name]Leila[/name] [name]Bethany[/name] to me, which I really liked, but I didn’t make the connection to my grandfather. I’m not sure I really like [name]Leila[/name] [name]Bethany[/name] [name]Fleur[/name], though. Not as much as [name]Leila[/name] [name]Johanna[/name] [name]Fleur[/name].

I love [name]Leila[/name] [name]Johanna[/name] [name]Fleur[/name]! Some of my favorite names there!!
I also don’t think the mn thing would be much of an issue, if at all. My boyfriend’s mn is his older brother’s first name exactly & there’s never been any issue with it at all!
Best,
[name]Leslie[/name]

I see your concern about [name]Johanna[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name], but I don’t think it will ever be an issue as you’re using one as a middle and the other as a first. All this talk of men named [name]Ashley[/name] made me think of a boy I went to elementary school with named [name]Ashley[/name]. All the boys in his large family had the same middle name. Name sharing among siblings is really common!

L. B. to honor your grandfather is another excellent suggesion! Here are some of my favorite B names:
[name]Bronwen[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Briar[/name]
[name]Briony[/name]
[name]Betrys[/name]

Good luck!

I think [name]Leila[/name] [name]Bea[/name] (or even just B) [name]Fleur[/name] (for LB) is cute and that [name]Leila[/name] [name]Johanna[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] sounds really long but lovely. [name]Leila[/name] [name]Johnna[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] takes out the “han” syllable which would take away the confusion.
Best wishes!
