First off, thank you to everyone who has helped this far. Your kind (and unkind) opinions have truly helped. Now just know, it’s not you, it’s me!! I’m incredibly indecisive. Now enough of my rambling. We thought we were going with [name]Susannah[/name]- had a great nickname, subtly honored my great grandmother, and it honored our faith) but now I’m second guessing. I feel like the name sounds too much like a [name]Georgia[/name] peach. As in, it’s too Southern. Am I crazy? I’ve been secretly considering [name]Phoebe[/name]. I love the Ph- sound, she has a lovely meaning, and she’s still a biblical choice. We would go with [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Corinne[/name](honors mother, faith, faith pretty much honors my [name]Christian[/name]-crazed grandmother). [name]Phoebe[/name] just feels like my daughter. BUT- I felt the same way with [name]Susannah[/name]. Can I get some feedback? THANK YOU Nameberry!
I like [name]Phoebe[/name] a lot better! Personally, I am not a fan of [name]Susannah[/name] its to classic and frilly to me. I like [name]Phoebe[/name] because its spunky and sweet!
I honestly love both names, but I agree with you that [name]Susannah[/name] does have a southern belle vibe to it (which isn’t a bad thing, it just depends what you are looking for). I also like [name]Susannah[/name] in full, and would be afraid it would get shortened to [name]Susie[/name] at some point (which IS cute, I just like [name]Susannah[/name] much better). I really love [name]Phoebe[/name], though! I will add that Susannah feels much more substantial to me, though…and definitely has more of a classic vibe to me than Phoebe does.
I have a really good friend called [name]Susannah[/name], so I have to admit that I am partial to that.
What about if you went with either [name]Susannah[/name] phoebe, or [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Susannah[/name]? [name]Just[/name] put both of those name together.
[name]Susannah[/name] does NOT give me a southern vibe… probably because I am more conscious of these things: (1) [name]Susanna[/name] is the name of a [name]Christian[/name] woman in the Bible ([name]Luke[/name] 8). (2)There are totally non-southern Susannas and Susannahs in my family tree from Ohio and Pennsylvania. (3) As I mentioned before, I live near the [name]Santa[/name] [name]Susana[/name] Mountains in [name]California[/name].
Maybe the Biblical spelling [name]Susanna[/name] would feel less southern to you. (?)
Personally, I vastly prefer [name]Susannah[/name] over [name]Phoebe[/name]. However, it’s important that you to choose a name you feel comfortable with and feels right for your daughter. So, if you’ve changed your mind about [name]Susannah[/name], that’s legitimate. Go with the name you love best and that feels right.
I like both [name]Susannah[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] though personally I prefer [name]Susannah[/name].
I think [name]Phoebe[/name] is cute, but [name]Susannah[/name] feels more substantial. [name]Phoebe[/name] will always be spunky and preppy but [name]IMO[/name] it doesn’t age as well as [name]Susannah[/name]. [name]Susannah[/name] has the option to be as cute and spunky with cute nn’s like [name]Susy[/name]/[name]Suki[/name]/[name]Sanna[/name]/[name]Annie[/name] etc… But then could also be very professional by using the full [name]Susannah[/name], so needless to say my vote is for [name]Susannah[/name]
I am not a big fan of [name]Susannah[/name]. In my area it is completely overused but I’ve never net a [name]Phoebe[/name]. It’s so spunky and sweet and [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] is gorgeous!
[name]Both[/name] sound great, but I wouldn’t reject [name]Susannah[/name] because of perceived Southern-ness. Perhaps because the South is essentially the Bible Belt, there’s a great deal of overlap between biblical names and the region, but to me [name]Susannah[/name] is the quintessential frontierswoman out splitting rails and tilling soil in the [name]Green[/name] Mountains of [name]Vermont[/name]. In short, homespun and pioneer-y, but definitely not a plantation belle sort of name.
I don’t normally like [name]Phoebe[/name], but paired up with [name]Corinne[/name], I really like it. [name]Susannah[/name] is cute too, but I wouldn’t like [name]Susie[/name] as a nn. Good luck!
I like them both! But if you’re second-guessing [name]Susannah[/name]…
I don’t think of a [name]Georgia[/name] peach at all, I think of black eyed susans. I see a humble, intelligent, beautiful country girl.
If you want to bring [name]Susannah[/name] closer to [name]Phoebe[/name], maybe the nickname [name]Suki[/name]?
That said, [name]Phoebe[/name] is lovely, ancient, with a connection to [name]Artemis[/name], the moon… and it’s got a fabulous spelling.
[name]Susannah[/name] for sure. I couldn’t use it cause I have a family member I dislike named [name]Susan[/name], but [name]Susannah[/name] is greatness. [name]Phoebe[/name] to me is kinda too cutesy or trying too hard. [name]Susannah[/name] is not overused, it’s classic but not boring, and just beautiful to me. I guess I could see it as a Southern [name]Belle[/name] but it’s not limited to that. To me [name]Phoebe[/name] is way more limiting. [name]Susannah[/name] could be anything, from poet to president. And it’s got so many cute nn options, which [name]Phoebe[/name] doesn’t.
We would be using [name]Sosie[/name] or [name]Annie[/name] but I’d really rather use [name]Susannah[/name] on its own but I doubt that will happen as its so long.
