Girls:
[name]Aria[/name] - I can see its appeal, but it feels incomplete to me, and I much prefer [name]Arianne[/name] or [name]Ariana[/name]. [name]Even[/name] [name]Arielle[/name]. Or [name]Aurora[/name]/[name]Aurelia[/name]/[name]Aurelie[/name]/etc. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Ari[/name], though!
[name]Ayla[/name] - this has always confused me, because I can never tell if it’s AY-lah or EYE-lah! I love [name]Isla[/name] but I’ve never been crazy about [name]Ayla[/name]. It also reminds me of trendy names like [name]Kayla[/name]/[name]Layla[/name]/etc. so I’m not a huge fan.
[name]Clara[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]. It’s a MN on my own list. It’s so charming, vintage, and romantic.
[name]Cordelia[/name] (nickname [name]Cora[/name] or [name]Celia[/name]) - love this, and the nn [name]Cora[/name]. And [name]Celia[/name]! I’d never considered it… when I glanced over your list, I thought the nn options were [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Delia[/name]… love [name]Celia[/name] so much more than [name]Delia[/name].
[name]Daphne[/name] - love. [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] is on my top 10.
[name]Esme[/name] or Esmée - love this, with the latter spelling! I rarely see anyone else who loves the Esmée spelling. I love it because it’s the feminine spelling as opposed to the unisex spelling in [name]France[/name].
[name]Katrina[/name] - not a huge fan, sorry. I know a lot of people still associate it to the hurricane, but I never really saw its appeal, even before that. I love the nn [name]Kate[/name] though.
[name]Keira[/name] - I can see its appeal, but, honestly, I like [name]Kieran[/name] for a boy more.
[name]Lorelei[/name] - I want to love this, especially since I love the nns [name]Lola[/name], [name]Lila[/name], and [name]Rory[/name] so much, but I just can’t imagine using it. Still, I voted yes for this on your baby list.
[name]Lydia[/name] - love this, and the nn [name]Lydie[/name]. Very sweet and rich. It has a Revolutionary-War era feel to me that I love.
[name]Madeleine[/name] - like a lot. I love its more out-there nns, too ([name]Eleni[/name]/[name]Leni[/name], [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ella[/name], [name]Addy[/name], [name]Leina[/name], etc.)
[name]Nadia[/name] - like a lot, but mostly for its meaning! I knew a little girl named [name]Nadia[/name] years ago, and she was just darling. She had a big sister named [name]Audrey[/name] and I always thought [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Nadia[/name] were adorable together!
[name]Renee[/name] - love it a lot, but it does feel a bit dated. I probably wouldn’t use it but I do like it a lot.
[name]Rosalie[/name] - love this, but not the nn [name]Rosie[/name]/[name]Rose[/name]. I’ve never been a huge [name]Rose[/name] person, but I do like the name! I think [name]Ro[/name] or [name]Ally[/name] would be cute nns for it.
[name]Serena[/name] - love this. So so so much.
[name]Serena[/name]'s just so sweet and calm. I knew a [name]Serena[/name] in college, and she was nice. I would love to meet a little girl with this name now.
[name]Tessa[/name] - sweet and charming, but I prefer the shorter [name]Tess[/name].
[name]Veronica[/name] - I have a bad association with someone with this name, so I can’t really judge it fairly, but it is nice. I like [name]Verona[/name] or [name]Vienna[/name] more, personally.
[name]Vivian[/name] - not a huge fan of this spelling, but I love [name]Viviana[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name].
Boys:
[name]Alaric[/name] (nickname [name]Lars[/name]) - not a huge fan, sorry. I think [name]Lars[/name] makes it more usable, but I think I actually prefer the full name with no nn.
[name]Colton[/name] (nickname [name]Cole[/name]) - love the nn [name]Cole[/name]. [name]Colton[/name] is a big of a GP for me (it feels quite trendy), but I think I would probably just use [name]Cole[/name]. Or possibly [name]Lincoln[/name], nn [name]Cole[/name].
[name]Damon[/name] - like a lot. I think this is much more appealing than [name]Damian[/name], personally, which I think is where [name]Damon[/name] comes from.
[name]Dexter[/name] - A bit too geeky for me, but I do understand the appeal! I used to love it.
[name]Doyle[/name] - A bit too Irish for me, but it might make a nice MN. I love the show Rizzoli & Isles, and I can’t stop thinking of the Irish mob-boss [name]Paddy[/name] [name]Doyle[/name] on that show, who has done a lot of harm to a lot of people. Still, it is intriguing.
[name]Everett[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]. [name]Everett[/name] is one of my favorites, and probably on my top five right now! I adore it.
[name]Harrison[/name] (nickname [name]Harris[/name] or [name]Rick[/name]) - I’m not a huge fan, sorry, despite my love for -son names! I prefer just [name]Harris[/name], or even [name]Henry[/name]…
[name]Herrick[/name] (nickname [name]Eric[/name] or [name]Rick[/name]) - not a huge fan, sorry. I can’t really see the appeal.
[name]Jared[/name] - I like it. It’s biblical and just a bit off-beat so not terribly popular, but still handsome and cool. The [name]Jared[/name] I’ve known the best in the past few years has always been so cool–friendly, smart, fun–so it leaves a good association with me, even though we haven’t talked for months. It has a similar feel to [name]Adam[/name] to me, which I prefer immensely, but I do really like [name]Jared[/name] too!
[name]Joel[/name] - I’ve never been a fan, sorry. I prefer other [name]Joe[/name] names, predominantly [name]Josiah[/name], [name]Jonas[/name], and [name]Joseph[/name], but I do like just [name]Jonah[/name], too.
[name]Luther[/name] - I see its appeal but I doubt I would use it. I think it’d make a cool mn, though.
[name]Marvin[/name] (nickname [name]Marv[/name] or [name]Mars[/name]) - too dated to me, but the nn [name]Mars[/name] would be pretty cool.
[name]Maxwell[/name] (nickname [name]Max[/name]) - love the nn [name]Max[/name]. I’m not as keen on any of its fuller names, but if I had to pick a name for [name]Max[/name] to be short for, it’d definitely be [name]Maxwell[/name]!
[name]Simon[/name] - like a lot. I’ve been considering it lately, but I prefer [name]Silas[/name] or [name]Cyrus[/name] personally.
[name]Travis[/name] - too dated for me, but I’ve known some great Travises.
[name]Trevor[/name] - I like it more than [name]Travis[/name], but it’s still a bit dated to me.
[name]Walter[/name] - I like it a lot. I can’t help but think of the blubbery, bumbling [name]Walter[/name] [name]Bishop[/name] on the TV show Fringe. He cracks me up, haha. [name]Wally[/name] and [name]Walt[/name] could be cute nns, but I like just [name]Walter[/name]!
[name]Wyatt[/name] - like a lot, but I prefer it as a MN. It’s a bit too cowboyish as a FN for me!
My favorites are [name]Clara[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], Esmée, [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Serena[/name], [name]Damon[/name], [name]Everett[/name], and [name]Simon[/name].
Good luck!
