Really liking the name [name_m]Kyden[/name_m] pronounced ‘[name_u]Kai[/name_u]-din’ but not sure if I have the pronunciation correct (I have an American accent) and how others would say the name.
So what about you guys? Would you say [name_u]Kai[/name_u]-din (like ‘eye’ with a ‘k’ at the beginning or [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-din (as in ‘okay’ minus the ‘o’)?
I’d definitely pronounce it the same as you! I’m guessing people would generally pronounce it the way you’re going for. I could see occasional issues with spelling–I wouldn’t be confident that I knew how to spell it if I just heard it spoken–but the pronunciation side of things seems straightforward!
Kai-den because it’s spelled [name_m]Ky[/name_m] like [name_m]Cy[/name_m] (Sigh). [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-din is spelled [name_m]Kaden[/name_m], [name_u]Kayden[/name_u], or [name_m]Kaiden[/name_m], never [name_m]Kyden[/name_m].
Agree with the others that the pronunciation on this one is pretty intuitive. (It reminds me of [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] vs [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] - the lack of the ‘ay’ makes it a fairly clear pronunciation)
I’d say it like you do. [name_u]Kayden[/name_u] would be kay-din but [name_m]Ky[/name_m] beginning always sounds like kai. [name_m]Can[/name_m]’t see how it can get mispronounced
This would be [name_m]Ky[/name_m]-den but it will for ever be confused and miss heard as [name_u]Kayden[/name_u]. Poor kid will forever be correcting people
What about [name_u]Kyler[/name_u], [name_m]Kaiser[/name_m], [name_m]Kaius[/name_m], or just [name_u]Kai[/name_u]. Less trendy feeling and would stand alone without causing confusion, could still call him [name_u]Kai[/name_u]
Kyden = long i sound as in [name_u]Sky[/name_u]
[name_u]Kayden[/name_u] = long a as in [name_u]Ray[/name_u]
The only thing that is controversial is the name [name_m]Kaiden[/name_m]. Americans might say “[name_u]Kay[/name_u]-den” but it’s a Japanese name and actually should be “[name_u]Kai[/name_u]-den”. Either way, the parents get to say the pronunciation of a name regardless of spelling so you would just need to be persistant. I think if you want “[name_m]Ky[/name_m]-den” with a long i sound, it’s a good spelling. [name_m]Ky[/name_m] looks like [name_m]Ty[/name_m] so it should be easy to understand!
