HELP! Middle name dilemma

[name]Hi[/name] Berries, I’m trying to choose a middle name and am having some trouble. My husband and I have decided on the first name [name]Grayson[/name]. He is giving me full authority on the middle name. So… do I choose the middle name [name]James[/name] which is my father’s name, my grandfathers name, my great-great grandfathers name and my hubs middle name? Or do I choose [name]Michael[/name] which is my hubs name and my hubs fathers name? I’ll throw in this caveat: we do not get along with his fathers side so choosing [name]Michael[/name] wouldn’t be to honor his father - it would be to honor my hubs. My gut says to choose [name]James[/name] since it has such a long history with my family but didn’t know if [name]Michael[/name] maybe sounded better with [name]Grayson[/name]? I will also add that our last name is one syllable. What do you all think?

[name]Grayson[/name] [name]James[/name] H
[name]Grayson[/name] [name]Michael[/name] H

I think both [name]Grayson[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Michael[/name] are fabulous. My inclination would be to use [name]Grayson[/name] [name]James[/name], since it honors your husband, as well, but I do think [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Michael[/name] is less “AY” heavy. Although I think the 2-1 flow of [name]Grayson[/name] [name]James[/name] works really well, better than [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Michael[/name]. I don’t think you could really go wrong, but there’s more family significance with [name]Grayson[/name] [name]James[/name], which would speak to me.

Good luck!

I agree you have two great options. [name]Grayson[/name] [name]James[/name] is my mild preference but [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Michael[/name] works well. I think it sounds like [name]Michael[/name] would be a great mn option for any future sons (or likewise if you go with [name]Michael[/name] this time, [name]James[/name] in the future makes sense).

Based just on sound & style, I think [name]Grayson[/name] [name]James[/name] works better. And, it’s also got the better history and honors so many people in your life. I’d def. go with [name]James[/name].

Thanks everyone! I’m still not on board 100% with [name]Grayson[/name] but that’s what the hubs likes.

: D. Would you both like [name]Jameson[/name]? If he’s set on a name ending in -son.
[name]Gregory[/name] is a more solid, traditional way that you could get to the more modern nn [name]Gray[/name]/[name]Grey[/name]…if [name]Gray[/name]/[name]Grey[/name] is more what he likes.
I know it’s a bit of a “dad name”, but I actually find it really handsome, especially [name]Gregory[/name] [name]James[/name]…

Thanks, jesba! I actually don’t like the name [name]Gray[/name]. I prefer [name]Grayson[/name] to [name]Gray[/name]. I do like [name]Grayson[/name] it’s just not at the top of my list. I’m always afraid of using anything too different. I don’t care if the name is popular or not I just don’t want my child being teased.

Gotchya. [name]Grayson[/name] doesn’t strike me as particularly more teaseable than a lot of other names. Good luck!

Thanks! I’m an over thinker. You’ve made me feel better.

: D! You are welcome. And it’s normal to over-think, I think. It’s a big decision. Keep feeling good, [name]Grayson[/name]'s a nice name and you have two good middle options!
