Hello! We just found out we’re adding a third girl to our family in October. My oldest is 3 and immediately started calling her new baby sister “Cece,” I think from a Cocomelon episode We kind of went with it, mostly because we were glad she was accepting and excited about having a new baby in the family, but now we’re calling her Cece to the 3yo and… I don’t love it!
I don’t mind it as a NN, I guess. The way we’ve named our other two daughters has been to give them a classic formal name and then use shortened forms for everyday use (think Lillian → Lill/Lilly, Eleanor → Nor/Nora). But I’m having trouble thinking of a name I like that could have Cece as a NN. Growing up, I had an neighbor named Cecilia who I don’t really want to think about every time I say my daughter’s name. I like Lucy (I know, it’s a stretch) but DH says it’s not his first choice. He suggested picking a first and middle that both begin with C so it could be an acronym nickname, like John Paul → JP, but that strikes me as sort of a more boy thing to do.
Any suggestions that aren’t Cecilia? Also can’t start with a “SH” sound, like Charlotte, as our last name starts with “Sh.” And just FYI, I am fully prepared to name her whatever we choose and just have her sister call her Cece. I’d be fine with that. Just interested if anyone can come up with something that I like that would be accommodating!
Funny story for those who’ve read this far: this is coming from a family where it took a member almost 35 years to realize that Uncle Toby’s name was actually Benjamin; his older brother one day started calling him Toby after the family dog and it stuck so much that his legal name was lost to history
[name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f] maybe, or sound wise maybe [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] for [name_f]Sisi[/name_f]
[name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe even something like Cordelia/Connie, then you’d get a more formal nickname, and your daughter could still keep [name_f]Cece[/name_f] as her own nn
First of all, that is the cutest thing I have heard all day. Second of all, I think that the initials thing works great and it isn’t too masculine at all! Third of all, I agree with @Raven-1013 about [name_f]Alice[/name_f] working!
Aw, thanks. She’s a sweetheart, so we wanted to encourage her excitement lol. Ok, good feedback! I have a friend whose only daughter is [name_f]Alice[/name_f] so I may not want to tread there but I like the suggestions that aren’t directly Ce- related. TY!
All of these may be stretches:
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] > [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] > [name_f]Cece[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] > [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] > [name_f]Cece[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] > [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] > [name_f]Cece[/name_f]
From other [name_f]Cece[/name_f] threads: [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Cosette[/name_f], Celine/Selene
I think pretty much any c name could work
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Celina[/name_f]
[name_f]Celine[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarice[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
Anything that starts with a C would work. I think the initials thing is cute, and definitely not too masculine. I know a girl who goes by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] because her initials are LE and I think it’s cute. Don’t feel like you have to pick a name just because it shortens to [name_f]Cece[/name_f]. You can call her [name_f]Cece[/name_f] no matter what it says on her birth certificate. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother is named [name_m]Steven[/name_m], and we call him [name_u]Bo[/name_u], even though that makes no sense
Personally I think the idea of having two c names together to create a ‘Cece’ is the way forward. I absolutely love alliteration and it means that if you don’t have to think of a name that links to Cece like Celia or at a stretch Alice. Also I don’t think it’s a masculine thing at all just to reassure.
[name_f]My[/name_f] preschool-aged daughter also thinks we should name our baby girl [name_f]Cece[/name_f], but hers comes from [name_m]Doc[/name_m] McStuffins. We currently call her [name_f]Chickadee[/name_f], and will likely NOT be [name_f]Cece[/name_f], but I feel your pain! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you either come up with a great full name for [name_f]Cece[/name_f], or convince your daughter that her sister’s name is something else!
Lots of great suggestions already!
[name_m]Long[/name_m] story but #1 on my list for quite a while was [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] with [name_f]Cece[/name_f] or [name_f]Cici[/name_f] as a nickname. That would follow the pattern you have going with your girls’ names what with a longer official full name with a nickname.
I like the idea of two C names for it. I would also open it up to any names with “see” sounds - [name_f]Serena[/name_f], Daisy…
Also it occurs to me that [name_f]Cece[/name_f] kind of sounds like “sissy”, a nickname for “sister”, which would honestly give you carte blanche!
