Update Oct 27
We’re moving on to Boys names for a bit now. Thamks everyone! Anyone want to hop over to my manchild thread and help me out? I promise it’ll be a bit more of a challenge than this one was!
Not sure of the sex yet but since I feel like a girls name will have to fit in more with sisters I’m focusing there for now.
We have Azula [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] (3y) & [name_f]Indira[/name_f] [name_f]Coral[/name_f] (21m)
If this baby is another girl our top two picks at the moment are Freyja and [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I know they aren’t the rare gems Azula & [name_f]Indira[/name_f] seem to be (actually [name_f]Indira[/name_f] is recognizable enough here because of the massive Indo-Canadian population in the lower mainland) but we really love the sounds, aesthetic spelling, and the namesakes for [name_f]Athena[/name_f] & Freyja. Our third FN option at the moment is [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], but for now DH likes the other two slightly more. He dropped a lot of FNs that I loved (but I really don’t mind him narrowing it down to just a few, considering I really like all 3 of them).
He has also turfed about a million MN options (my faves, [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_f]Venus[/name_f], Lazuli & [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] were among them) and what’s left are:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - Honours my dad & grandpa. I like it a lot with [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] but don’t think it sparkles with [name_f]Athena[/name_f] or Freyja.
[name_f]Moon[/name_f] - Because we found out about the pregnancy during a [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Moon[/name_f].
[name_f]Willow[/name_f] - Because we like the name. No big significance, unless you count my no holds barred love for the 80’s movie. We like this but I go back & forth on it.
[name_u]Cedar[/name_u] - DH’s grandmother has great big cedars growing on her property so it reminds him of her, and it has also been my absolute favourite essential oil this pregnancy (usually I’m a ylang-ylang or lavender girl). I like this for a boy also but DH finds it feminine.
Obviously I love nature names! Suggestions welcome
More ideas? Or any Feedback? Thanks peeps! I love using NB as a sounding board when DH isn’t in the mood to talk baby names.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that because Freyja and [name_f]Athena[/name_f] are more common than Azula & [name_f]Indira[/name_f], that they might need more obscure MNS? We chose [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] & [name_f]Coral[/name_f] so the girls could go by their (still lovely but more recognizable) middles when they get older if they dont like their “weird” first names. That seems unnecessary with [name_f]Athena[/name_f] & Freyja because they feel so much more familiar, right? Should we try and flip things around & put an unusual name in the middle? Or stick with a MN more along the lines of [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] & [name_f]Coral[/name_f]?
Thanks, @leighmiller & @georgiao I really like [name_f]Moon[/name_f] as a middle too, definitely pretty out-there though.
I know most people on here won’t have anything nice to say about us possibly using another Ends-in-A name for #3, but those are the names we tend to like. Our surname limits our options otherwise. Anyway, having said that & with the understanding that keeping that -a pattern isn’t ideal to most people, but it doesn’t really bother us (I have plenty more -a names on my list if we ever have another girl, haha) and we would love some more feedback on combos or suggestions for other middles!
I really think Freyja is the way to go, personally. I’ll list my reasons:
It ends in an A like the names of your daughters, but starts with a different letter (unlike [name_f]Athena[/name_f], where [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and Azula could clash)
It has the adorable nickname you mentioned in your signature ‘[name_f]Fey[/name_f]’, which I think goes great with Zu and [name_f]Indy[/name_f]
Stylistically, I think it matches better with Azula and [name_f]Indira[/name_f], though it isn’t as unique. I think it matches better than [name_f]Athena[/name_f] (though I do like [name_f]Athena[/name_f])
Freyja [name_f]Moon[/name_f] is just beautiful ahaha
I don’t know if you’re taking suggestions, but I’ll list some that seem similar to [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and Freyja but may be a bit more unique:
I feel like [name_f]Athena[/name_f] fits better with Azula & [name_f]Indira[/name_f] in terms of sound & look, while Freyja fits better in terms of vibe (if that makes any sense at all…) I love all three firsts and think any of them would work beautifully with her sisters names, so you can’t go wrong whichever one you eventually end up going with.
In terms of combos, I like Freyja [name_f]Moon[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] & [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_u]Cedar[/name_u] – all three are gorgeous!
I agree with this 100%; these combos are definitely my favorites. Although, I guess I’m the one lone person that really likes [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] in the sibset because all three have a similar ethereal feeling to me. There are some great nn possibilities with [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] too ([name_f]El[/name_f], Lo, [name_f]Winny[/name_f]: even though that one reminds me of Hocus Pocus!). My second favorite is Freyja [name_f]Moon[/name_f].
i’m a big fan of freyja with your other girls’ names. i feel like athena and azula would leave indire out, and i just don’t love athena. elowen is pretty cool too.
freyja moon and elowen ruby would be my suggestions. freyja ruby is also totally doable and nice, since you prefer more usable middle names. cedar is super cool but i would save it for a boy maybe?
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_f]Ethne[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_u]Bristol[/name_u] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and Revelyne [name_f]Loire[/name_f]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_f]Rivage[/name_f] [name_u]Talley[/name_u]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_f]Serenella[/name_f] [name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] [name_u]Fifer[/name_u]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f] [name_f]Emer[/name_f]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] [name_f]Tove[/name_f]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_m]Berkley[/name_m] [name_u]Saylor[/name_u]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] [name_f]Moon[/name_f]
Azula, [name_f]Indira[/name_f] and [name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f]
I prefer Freyja or [name_f]Athena[/name_f] with your sib-set! I don’t mind that all 3 girl names end in an -a sound (mine tend to end in an -ee sound, I think it’s normal to have a preference).
Aesthetically I like how [name_f]Athena[/name_f] looks with your girls, but it might just be a little too close to Azula, with same first and last letter and three syllables. I would opt for Freyja.
I adore Freyja [name_f]Moon[/name_f], yes the middle name is ‘out-there’ (literally, haha!), but Freyja is “normal” enough that she shouldn’t need a back-up name. She also has the choice of going exclusively by [name_f]Fey[/name_f].
If you go with [name_f]Athena[/name_f], I like [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] the best, but [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is nice too.
I think it fits beautifully with Azula and [name_f]Indira[/name_f]. I don’t think it’s significantly more familiar–especially than [name_f]Indira[/name_f]. Though there are more spelling variations. It’s a lovely choice.
My 2nd pick would be [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. You’re right that it’s very sparkly feeling And it definitely has a similar feel to your other girls.
Thanks @dreamingoffireflies yes I agree Freyja is probably the best bet. I like that it shakes up our pattern slightly using 2 syllables instead of 3 also. Thank you for the FN suggestions. We had [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] on a list for one of oud daughters before but it has never made it quite to the top! I like [name_f]Lakshmi[/name_f] too but since [name_f]Indira[/name_f] is actually an alternate name for that goddess I don’t think it will work for us.
@sunniva glad to hear you think all 3 fit well. I know what you mean with [name_f]Athena[/name_f] & Freyja. And I love your combos… not 100% sure on [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_u]Cedar[/name_u], since both names are for types of trees, but it looks & sounds lovely.
@ottertails I like how much [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] shakes up the pattern but still has a similar feeling to my girls names (especially [name_f]Indira[/name_f]). Not crazy about the nicknames - hocus pocus though, lol - but if I were to pick one it would for sure be Lo.
@jonix I agree a bit with you about Azula & [name_f]Athena[/name_f] making Inaira the odd name out, but I would have that feeling I think if I went the [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] route too. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you think Freyja [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] works, it sounds so regal to me though.
@ash_ash thanks for the suggestions. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Briar[/name_f]!
@maimouse yes I agree with you about [name_f]Athena[/name_f] & Freyja. I prefer a little variety and yes [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is quite similar to Azula. I think Freyja is my fave but my husband really loves [name_f]Athena[/name_f], and I love it enough to use it if that’s what he really wants to do… I’m just hoping to find the right combo for [name_f]Athena[/name_f] in case we do end up using it. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is our 3rd fave. It is still on the list because I especially really like it but I have a feeling DH might bump it off at some point. I really like all 3 so I am sure I will love whatever we go with.
I think my favourite is Freyja [name_f]Moon[/name_f]. Although with you daughters names (which I love) I think [name_f]Odilia[/name_f] would work really well!
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] is lovely! Might be too similar to [name_f]Indira[/name_f] (as we prn with a “dee” for the second syllable since that is DH’S peference). So pretty though
Solei as the first name that popped in my mind. I think it goes lovely with your other girls. It’s not real common, but still recognizable. It would make a beautiful middle name too. I love the sound of [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] Solei.
Yeah thanks @Eril91 [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] is pretty. Here in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] french is our second language so I’d be hesitant to use a french word as a name.
