I just like what I like! lol… [name_f]My[/name_f] first born’s name is [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] [name_m]Ray[/name_m]. I don’t want another W name, and I want to avoid the “ee” ending sound. I like “uh” endings, and tend to favor nature/space themed names. Below is my favorites list, but I would love other suggestion and/or first/middle pairings! Last initial is D- want to avoid name sets that initials spell DED or SAD. Middle name will likely be some variation of [name_f]Anne[/name_f], if not [name_f]Anne[/name_f] itself (e.g. [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], etc). Okay so here are the names I love and the things I am nervous about. I’m a high anxiety individual I’m sorry!!!

[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] - Worry about the Bible connotation, specially related to the Friends quote “named after a biblical whore”. We aren’t religious. I like that this name is floral and sweet. Lots of nickname possibilities which I love!

[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] - Worry about the video game connotation. We aren’t big gamers, never played LoZ. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like the vintage feel of the name. I like that it seems futuristic and strong.

[name_f]Nova[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this name other than the fact that a Teen Mom (MTV) star named her baby that. I worry that it sounds like a dog name… but I love the space relation to supernovas. Hubby likes this one a lot.

[name_f]Stella[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this one too, but similar to [name_f]Nova[/name_f] I worry that it might be kind of a dog name… [name_f]My[/name_f] dogs name is [name_f]Luna[/name_f] so… idk.

[name_f]Summer[/name_f] - [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite season (I’m a teacher). [name_f]My[/name_f] hesitation is the character on [name_m]Rick[/name_m] and [name_m]Morty[/name_m]. I have two birds named [name_m]Rick[/name_m] and [name_m]Morty[/name_m]. I don’t want my daughter to just be named after another tv show character… also don’t want people to think I’m some super fan… I’m not.

[name_f]June[/name_f] - [name_f]My[/name_f] grandma’s name. I think it’s cute. [name_f]Baby[/name_f] isn’t due in [name_f]June[/name_f] though… And it’s a little plain maybe? Especially with [name_f]Anne[/name_f].

None of them strike me as dog/pet names and I wouldn’t worry about the associations (or at least, none of them occurred to me!) [name_f]My[/name_f] only association is the Plain White T’s song for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] but that’s pretty cool to have a song

Comments on some of the names on your list:

Delilah–I agree that it’s beautiful, and also that it’s problematic. For many people, religious or not, the [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] of the Bible is the first association their minds will make. The song “Hey There, Delilah” has helped dilute that image, but giving your child a name that you KNOW has negative associations is a risk. I wonder if you’d just like [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]? I think it’s even more beautiful than [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and has no negative associations that I’m aware of.

Zelda–I agree that the video game association is a major one, but there’s also the romance/intrigue of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m]. I agree also that it has vintage appeal and history of use, but a futuristic sound. I think this is a winner in terms of what you say you’re looking for.

Nova–It has a timely sound and the space association you like. I don’t think the Teen Mom thing is a big deal.

Stella–This might be my favorite from your list. It’s stunning. I admittedly don’t hang out with a lot of dogs, but I know two little girls named [name_f]Stella[/name_f], so I don’t think it’s “just” a dog name. The “star” meaning sounds perfect for you.

Summer–I don’t know “Rick & Morty”, but yes, if you already have pets named after those characters, this could start to look like a fandom thing. Also, she’s not being born in the summer and this doesn’t have the space meaning you love. I’m not sure this is “the one”. Maybe a future kiddo? Maybe a middle?

June–Grandma’s name would be a great honor middle, for this baby if you decide not to do [name_f]Anne[/name_f], or for a future child. Doesn’t sound like it’s the first name you’d truly love for this child.

Violet–A wonderful, gorgeous name, and if it’s been your favorite for this long, I’d encourage you to use it despite local popularity.

For my babies I always like to narrow it down to a short list (3-ish names). Then once we meet the baby we make our choice. 1. If the connotations of [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] bother you, I don’t think the Bible reference is going to go away, so maybe don’t use that one. If you like the nicknames… some of them work well one their own and seem to fit into your style, have you considered [name_f]Della[/name_f] or Lila/Lilah?

2. The “Legend of Zelda” association comes up every time someone suggests the name [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] here. I am also not a big [name_m]Legend[/name_m] of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] fan (nothing against it, just haven’t played them), but I would still use the name [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], I really like it and (from what I can tell) there is nothing wrong with the character and people who know about her would think this is a positive association.

3. The Teen Mom star will be forgotten about, and [name_f]Nova[/name_f] is a top 100 name now anyway, totally normal. As for the dog name… people name their dogs names they like, and some people like to use human names. As long as you’re not naming the baby “Fido” or “Rover” or something else that is basically ONLY in use for dogs, I’d say you’re fine. Same goes for [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. (I know more human Stellas than dog Stellas, and I’ve never met a [name_f]Nova[/name_f] of either species.)

4. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] - if your birds really are named [name_m]Rick[/name_m] and [name_m]Morty[/name_m], I’d avoid any more [name_m]Rick[/name_m] and [name_m]Morty[/name_m] character names if you’re not doing it on purpose.

5. [name_f]June[/name_f] - I like it! The honor both for [name_f]June[/name_f] (and maybe the summer season as well, to use in place of Summer?) would be nice. And you mentioned that you were open to using other middle names besides [name_f]Anne[/name_f], you mentioned [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] as a possibility and [name_f]June[/name_f] [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] sounds cool, not plain.

6. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I wouldn’t let the popularity be a dealbreaker, unless either someone she’ll see a lot (cousin, friend’s kid, etc) is also named [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or it’s SO common that there will be three in every classroom she’ll ever be in. Otherwise it’s fine.
