Hello All, DH and I have 2 beautiful little cowgirls, Rileigh and [name]Kennedy[/name], and we recently found our we’re gonna have ourselves a little cowboy. But we’re struggling on a name. Here’s a few we thought of. Please add to our list and tell me what your favorites are. We like cowboyish, outdoorsy names and place names. Our last name is [name]Lynn[/name] so his first name needs to be very masculine. Thanks for your help!!
[name]Ryder[/name] (DH’s top pick but I fear it’s too similar to Rileigh)
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Walker[/name]
[name]River[/name]
[name]Cael[/name]
[name]Nash[/name]
[name]Ridge[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Ryder[/name] - I think it’s too close to Rileigh. I also hear “Ride her, [name]Lynn[/name]!”. Nothing to stop from middle name, though.
[name]Weston[/name] - this would be a great pick! Nn [name]Wes[/name] or [name]West[/name] is so charming. I have a friend who just used this and she gets lots of compliments. I guess both names end in -n but that’s really a mild difficulty.
[name]Walker[/name] - pretty good. “Walk her, [name]Lynn[/name]” but that’s not as difficult as Ride her.
[name]River[/name] - Mmm. Somehow they flow together for me, like Riverlyn, kind of soft. Or it sounds like a place. Not my top pick for you.
[name]Cael[/name] - I think of kale the vegetable, it’s sort of 1 syllable, so makes for a very short name, also the -l’s bump into each other. Not the best.
[name]Nash[/name] - [name]Nash[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] sounds like [name]Ashlyn[/name]…I don’t think this is what you’re going for.
[name]Ridge[/name] - I kind of like it even though it’s one syllable. Could work. [name]Will[/name] be forever heard as [name]Rich[/name] though I think.
[name]Asher[/name] - I like this pretty well for you! Again, it’s just that the nn [name]Ash[/name] is inevitable, and with your last name that might bother you. I don’t think it has to bother you, though.
You are clearly going for Western names, which is fine, but your little girls names don’t really feel western to me, but more Irish surnames. I think the doors are open to you to use other styles just fine. Here are a few thoughts:
Other western names to me:
[name]Arlo[/name]
[name]Bram[/name]
[name]Bridger[/name]
[name]Brooks[/name]
[name]Carter[/name] (but this always bothers me for rhyming with farter)
[name]Colton[/name] (nn [name]Colt[/name]?)
[name]Cooper[/name] (but this always bothers me for rhyming with pooper)
[name]Clark[/name]
[name]Clinton[/name]/[name]Clint[/name]
[name]Clyde[/name]
Forge/Forger
[name]Eli[/name]
[name]Garth[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] nn [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Gray[/name]
[name]Grayson[/name]
[name]Guthrie[/name]
[name]Jackson[/name]
[name]Jeb[/name]
[name]Jed[/name]
[name]Jethro[/name] (nn [name]Jett[/name]?)
[name]Knox[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name] (nn [name]Mack[/name])
[name]Malcolm[/name] (nn [name]Mack[/name])
[name]Ranger[/name]
[name]Roger[/name] (a la [name]Will[/name] [name]Rogers[/name]…nn [name]Rock[/name])
[name]Roy[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] for you)
[name]Zane[/name]
[name]Zed[/name]
[name]Zeke[/name]
I also think some classically manly names would work really well for you, with western nicknames. What do you think?
[name]John[/name] nn [name]Jack[/name] or [name]Johnny[/name] ([name]Johnny[/name] [name]Cash[/name])
[name]Joseph[/name] nn [name]Joey[/name]
[name]Luke[/name] (cool hand)
[name]William[/name] nn [name]Billy[/name] or [name]Will[/name] ([name]Will[/name] [name]Rogers[/name], [name]Billy[/name] the kid)
Ryder - it is too close to Riley
Weston - This one is fine, it’s just nms
Walker - I like this one better than Weston.
River - I love this one! I actually know someone named River!
Cael - This is nice but I think the spelling is weird. Also, I agree the L sounds bump into each other.
Nash - I don’t like this one.
Ridge - Don’t like
Asher - This is my second favorite!
So I like:
River
Asher
Walker
My suggestions:
Booker
Cooper
Dusty
Hunter
Maverick
Sawyer
Bennett
Cage
Colton
Chase
Chance
Dalton
Emmett
Forrest
Garrett
Jesse
Marshall
Maddox
Preston
Russell
Shiloh
Tucker
Trevor
Wesley
Zane
Cowboy names are great! I think only a few on your list would actually work due to restrictions with your last name.
[name]Ryder[/name]- yes, too similar to Rileigh
[name]Weston[/name]- works with ln, not a bad choice
[name]Walker[/name]- not so sure
[name]River[/name]- too feminine and not masculine enough with ln
[name]Cael[/name]- since l’s bump into eachother and its a one syllable, sounds like a girls name [name]Caelyn[/name]
[name]Nash[/name]- sounds too similar to a girls name [name]Ashlyn[/name]
[name]Ridge[/name]- I like this one the best
[name]Asher[/name]- same concern as [name]Nash[/name], doesn’t seem very cowboy to me.
Here are the names I like for you, no mistaking for a girls name and VERY cowboy if you ask me (native Texan)
[name]Wyatt[/name]
[name]Eli[/name]
[name]Trevor[/name]
[name]Colton[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Ranger[/name]
[name]Booker[/name]
[name]Roger[/name]
[name]Dalton[/name]
[name]Jackson[/name] (but only as a full name, [name]Jack[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] sounds like [name]Jacqueline[/name])
(I love the name [name]Marshall[/name] for you but afraid it might be mistake for [name]Marsha[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] when spoken)
Good [name]Luck[/name] choosing, let us know what you decide!!
I think [name]Weston[/name] is best best cowboy name for your little cowboy. [name]Everett[/name], [name]Ranger[/name], [name]Tucker[/name], [name]Walker[/name] and [name]Carter[/name] would also be fantastic.
[name]Ryder[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! but agree that it’s too close to Rileigh
[name]Weston[/name] - nice name
[name]Walker[/name] - nice but not my favorite
[name]River[/name] - love!!
[name]Cael[/name] - nms
[name]Nash[/name] - ok
[name]Ridge[/name] - not crazy about this one
[name]Asher[/name] - love!
